They actually do. There was a time Canada released figures on new immigrants from Nigeria. Women were much more than men and that was in the single category.
Then, it is recent. The Canada frenzy kicked off a year or two during Buhari's first term.

Japa is more than about making money.
its obvious that the OP made the comparison between men and women who want to japa, solely about money.
REMEMBER: if you have a million naira monthly salary then you are better off staying in Nigeria because what you get with such salary in Nigeria, you could only get in the west if you are a millionaire (or close to it) in USD

It’s very sad because these women we throw it all away for donot even appreciate us. Check comments from the likes of Cococandy etc on here. Indeed, i agree that women are smarter than men.
This isn’t even hearsay, my cousin who was an engineer with an American IOC left his job because of his wife and is now a care worker abroad while the wife is a nurse.
Would this ever play out if she was the breadwinner in Nigeria? We both know the answer. Men are too short sighted to see that it’s all a means of power exchange. If i hear “securing my children’s future” one more time, i may throw up
men and women see life differently.... i guess.
a woman with a secured million Naira employment would value it for her and her family, while a man with same would probably want MORE thus why the remote thought of japa from men. i guess our ego would be in the way of common sense.

the reality is that....if you have a million naira monthly salary with which you live in a mansion in a fancy area of Nigeria, with a few luxury cars in your garage and a few drivers, maids, security etc, your children go to private schools and you often take international vacation with your family, then WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO CHANGE/JEOPARDIZE THAT?!

1 million naira cannot do any of these things you listed. I earned more than that in Nigeria. Maybe in previous years but now that money won't go far at all.

You’re right, he was a contract staff but with the option of constant renewal because he was involved in a long term project. Needless to say he was also earning millions too. He now works in an old people’s home. He acts like it’s fine but I do not believe him.
Then, he did not do well. Well, his travails and those of other men should serve as lessons to young bachelors. In anything you want to do, ask yourself how it would benefit you as a MAN, before thinking about it as a father and husband. That is how I live my life - I consider myself FIRST in everything. The belief is that if it benefits me, anyone with me would benefit as well. But my benefit is paramount.

cc: wonder233 made good points as well.

Since you don't have a strata of data, let me help you with one. The banking industry is the one with the most "successful" working class women in Nigeria. Now taking UK as a sample space, this post is nullified because Its evident they've been the highest movers to the UK from that industry.

If you see a "successful" woman who has not migrated as you claim, then I can guarantee it's because of her husband. Majority of families in Nigeria, the husband is the breadwinner, so this isn't an argument in the first place
I am curious, these female bankers who emigrated to the UK, at least the ones you know, did they emigrate as married women or spinsters? Also, were they permanent or contract staff?

You have good point, I don't really fancy living in the west for a long time also. Just need to make some cash and have exposure, No place like ho
Naa persin wey dey do cleaner or gateman go stay for Western countries for 10 to 20 years without coming home and still be prideful about it.

The real ballers just dey go up and down.
There are many Nigerians who are settled for life in the US and are not interested of moving to Nigeria. The existing black population helps them "feel" at home. Also, the US is an immigrant nation. Obviously, Europe would be different, bar the UK.

P.S. The belief that every Nigerian or the majority of Nigerians especially in Anglophone countries are gatemen or cleaners is entirely false. There are many high-earning first-generation Nigerians who live very comfortable lives outside the country. Let go of that mindset. Besides, if not for abroadians, the real estate industry in Nigeria would be starved of funds. Ask your realtors who constitute the major patrons of their products.

Interesting read. Let's look at each deeply.

You make it seem as if the majority who emigrated within the past few years did so illegally. The thing is: migration is human. Humans would always migrate. As I write, there are droves of British doctors (majority white) who are leaving the UK to go work in Australia. In fact, recruiters from Australia organise recruitment shows at hospitals in the UK to lure them. Humans would always migrate. Additionally, there are many young Brits who move to the Gulf States to work and live. In Italy, Spain, Greece and Portugal, it is a long-standing tradition for both high and low academic achievers to move to Germany, Austria and Switzerland in search of jobs. There is something you have to understand here: humans WILL always pursue their economic interests over their rights.

If not for growing immigration controls and inventions such as visas and passports, migration would have skyrocketed beyond what it is.
Earlier today, I read in the Financial Times how Ecuador has scrapped visa free status for Chinese because they use the country as a stopover for their migration to the US. In Canada, they are lamenting of the influx of Indians. So, there you have it.

So before you think Nigerians are emigrating from the country in droves, others do it X10.

The ones I know personally and the bracket I sighted are those who started as executive trainees(not contract staff). My cousins inclusive, they're a mix of married and spinsters.
