In the annals of human race, wealth acquisition is hardly ever a straight, decent or neat road. But Nigeria’s case is pretty funnier. So permit me to write my own textbook on “Wealth in Nigeria”. If I have your permission, then THANKS. You become wealthy in Nigeria either by creating it through rigorous entrepreneurial adventures, most of them crooked somehow, BUT AT LEAST YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING. Or by direct, effortless (or next to no effort) ‘grabbing’ of wealth by virtue of your ethnic, religious or political vantage. The Hausa/Fulanis are the wealthiest in Nigeria by direct, effortless, grabbing of wealth. AND THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL AND EVERY PROBLEM NIGERIA IS FACING TODAY. The Hausa/Fulanis own far more oil wells in the Niger-Delta oil belt, far, far more than any other ethnic group in Nigeria. In fact, most of the oil well billionaires in the North do not even know the geographical locations of the oil wells that they are reaping billions from. It's just as simple as collecting the oil lease allocation papers from the government and reselling the papers to oil companies. And billions start rolling in. Major General Sanni Abacha (of morbid infamy) killed Ken Saro Wiwa due to the desire of Ogoni people to challenge the status quo. That brought in unending militancy to the region. Fat government contracts only go to the cattle rearers who knows next to nothing about the project in question. THE HAUSA/FULANIS CAN NOT COMPETE WITH THE SOUTH IN INTELLIGENCE OR SKILL DEPENDENT ACQUISITIONS OF WEALTH, SO THEY KNOW THIS AND THAT IS WHY THEY'LL RATHER DIE THAN RELINQUISH THE CONTROL OF THE CENTRE GOVERNMENT IN NIGERIA. But the Igbos are the intelligent, entrepreneurial travellers of Nigeria. So if by ‘wealthy’, you mean money made out of sheer determination and sweat, I doubt if Africa has another tribe comparable to the Igbos. You will find them everywhere on the globe. Now, such aggressiveness for wealth creation has its consequences. And considering that they are “Nigerians”, fake drug manufacturing, adulterated auto spare parts, expired products rebranding and distribution, - even hard drugs smuggling - are all “legitimate “ to the Nigerian mind of the Igbos. Let me state finally that each Igbo man was given only one pound at the end of the Nigerian civil war; and whatever billions and millions you catch an Igbo man with today is from that one pound. They are phenomena! PS: I am Yoruba. Culled from quora by Ezekiel Fagoroye |

Hausa Fulanis are actually the wealthiest in Nigeria but most don't know. They're also the most learned if you understand the British education isn't the only way of learning and hence the reason they were quick to know the games of politics more than others |

EreluRoz:I agree with this, their bad English and modest lifestyle is a smoke screen. They are really sophisticated economically and politically. That's why I say any body that wants to win the Presidential election in this country MUST get the Northern support. This is where our Ibo cousins shoot their self in the foot with their consent and blatant hate for the North. |

pryme:We igbos are our own enemies, we igbos actually caused the civil war, we killed all the northern leaders while leaving our own as against the initial plans which is why they called it Igbo coup but today we claim victim. We igbos are not blessed politically . I've heard the real cause of the civil war and the role we igbos played in igniting it. |

EreluRoz:If you have no reasonable thing to say u shut the Bleep up, is obvious you don't know anything about the course of the war so just shut up. People like you prefer to copy than to read their books, they told u rubbish and you didn't read to know the truth, and you are shamelessly coming online to disgrace your generation with what you heard. Reveal your identity and stop saying you're an igbo, cos I know no son of the soil will disgrace his family the way you just did.. |

sunnitus:What is the truth? The only truth in this is that Igbos should stop playing the victim game cos 70% of our traveils as southern Nigeria was caused by them because of greed and selfish interest. |

You people do not get the point. When we say Ibos are the richest tribe in Nigeria, it means they have the highest no of millionaires dispersed amongst them. Unlike Hausa Fulani for instance where just 0.005% of their population are millionaires. If you go to Nnewi in Iboland for instance, you will observe the highest, almost every family has millionaires amongst them. Thats what it means. We talk about the ratio of millionaires and billionaires to their entire population. Thats what you cant argue folks |

Ibos are the richest people in Africa when you consider the ratio of millionaires/billionaires amongst them compared to their total population. Thats how it is measured. Ask google if you have data |

EreluRoz:Pls just shut it, which sector of the economy are the northerners inclined in, there are smart yoruba's, likewise brilliant Igbo's but you see the northerners. Their block headedness is still learning work. And that is why nigeria can never move forward, especially because they have the support of the British. When it comes to self made wealth, just leave it for the igbo's, they are wizard's. The brilliance is there, follow come, the yoruba's used the education they got through awolowo. |
