I want to doubt this report. I am in Ilorin and all the commutters increased their fares. I have done transport biz before and i have friends doing it. Is he telling us that apart from fuel if his car developed a fault, he won't be able to repair. Na lie
N17,000 fuel is just some 15 liters which is not too much for someone that runs a taxi business

Your people over there are poor and can't pay good money for transport, places like Ibadan, Ilorin and others still have some of the lowest transport fare one can find nationwide. so his claim may be true.

wait what? you make 90k per months but cant feed your family? what of those who are still receiving 30/50k salary then?

you better tell your wife to get up and go look for a damn job until things get better then.
We all know things are not easy right now but some people just exaggerate some situations. Below is a quote from the first hand experience of a nairalander which he wrote about on the family section. Although his own is a bike which might be low on fuel consumption but still, this story is somehow!!

Tommymoses:
On Sunday I make roughly 17k with 3k fuel and I didn't do full time on that day, coz the sun ☀ is not for me.

Pls anytime you enter bike try dey tip us Abeg the work isn't for fainted heart.

The situation is terrible. Getting a job that needs transport to and fro now looks like slavery .

I previously created a topic about an employer that refused to disclose salary range.

Days ago on Facebook, I posted in a group that I needed a job that can pay at least 100,000 naira monthly.
Same employer contacted me. I had to remind him that we have spoken before.
This time, he had no choice but decided to state the salary. It's a position of a secretary and he's said the salary is 40k.

Transport to and fro will cost me 1,000 daily.
So let's assume 25,000 naira is spent on transport, leaving a balance of 15,000 naira. Will 15,000 naira be enough to feed me in a month? That's 500 naira a day. Can 166 naira put food on the table? Other expenses nko?

I told him it can't work for me. And he asked me to find anyone that can take the job.

This life eh.. Sometimes, I wish the night never ends. Cos once it's morning, depression sets in.

When will this phase be over?
Hang in there no condition permanent one day and that is soon it will change.
The good thing about you is your willingness to work. Just keep your head up

I can feel the frustration and desperation in your words.

It's unacceptable that employers expect employees to sacrifice their well-being for meager salaries. The math you provided is alarming:

- 40,000 Naira (monthly salary)
- 25,000 Naira (transportation costs)
- 15,000 Naira (remaining for food and other expenses)
- 500 Naira (daily food budget)
- 166 Naira (daily per meal)

This is not a living wage.

Your decision to decline the offer was wise. No one deserves to live below the poverty line.

Some suggestions to help you navigate this challenging phase:

1. Continue job searching, focusing on better-paying opportunities.
2. Consider freelancing, remote work, or online businesses.
3. Update your skills to increase earning potential.
4. Network with professionals in your industry.
5. Seek support from friends, family, or mental health professionals.

Remember, this phase will pass.

Resources:

1. Job search platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Jobberman)
2. Freelance platforms (e.g., Upwork, Fiverr)
3. Online courses (e.g., Coursera, Udemy)
4. Mental health support (e.g., Nigeria's Mental Health Foundation)

You are not alone. Many people face similar struggles.

Keep pushing forward, and better opportunities will come.

Then you know the transport business is one of the toughest to manage and make a profit in Nigeria.

The competition, maintenance costs and government parasitism is overwhelming.

You're anonymous and I presume no longer in this line of business. Can you tell us your invested capital and profit margin when you were doing it?

Good Luck to Nigeria.

It's a lie, these drivers make whooping sum of money but their lifestyle of spending affects them. They spend anyhow believing they will another one next day. Go to Buka and fish joints and see how these heartless drivers spend. Clout chaser

The man is a fucking liar, you can't own your own bus and not be able to feed your family.

How about people who drive for others?

When fuel increases you too increase your fares.

I refuse to believe this lies.

Nonsense clout chaser.
Let me guess, from your logic, every business that has adjusted prices upwards is still as profitable as it was a year and a half ago?

many are surviving (yes SURVIVING) on 35k per month, let alone the gov workers that earns 70k per months. yet you want to make me believe that this man cannot survive on 90K? how many children does he have, 10?

anyone who earns 90k monthly is above the minimum wage thus will certainly make it better than most ( at the end of the month). is it enough? probably not, but it will certainly feed a normal family.
You just a wicked person, you are supporting apc it will still get to you, one way or the other, people are going through a lot you are here typing rubbish. IDT
