However, many people will never excel at public speaking no matter how many of these tips they apply.


Public speaking and oratory are art forms... Art, true art, can only be mastered by a few, not all!

If not, we would all be great writers, painters, sculptors, leaders, etc.


That's why everyone can't and shouldn't speak from a stage or box.

Let those gifted at it do the honors!

Reminds me of when I was doing students politics in school..

So after spending just 2 times trying to practice my manifesto in the mirror, I murdered the speech and felt like little Julius Ceasar.

The D day came, I mounted the podium and boom, the first mistake.

I looked into the crowd and spotted so many people who held me in high esteem, including those extremely intelligent VIPs who came to listen to what I'll say 😳

It seems they just formatted my brain abi na jazz? 🥲 "Start with your name", the MC tried to put me on track... My name is General Secretary... I stuttered..

The resounding laughter was enough message telling me that I fvcked up.

In a flash, I gained maximum confidence and was killing it.. 😅 But I'd already spent 3 minutes balabluing and sweating.

Abeg which one is balabluing? Lol

Nope... Speaking is different from PUBLIC speaking.

Everyone can speak, but only certain people will excel at Public speaking.

This is a well researched thing with evidence, sir.


We should encourage people to stay in their gifting.


It is one thing to have no choice but to learn basics of Public speaking due to positions like Kingship, but not everyone will excel at it cos it's akin to ART!

Everyone can learn how to draw or paint (it's taught in schools), but not everyone can excel at it!

Nice tips... The nerves can be quite unsettling tho.. I think what OP meant to say about nerves is that "there is nothing you can do about them"
What can help is to look at some members of the audience and say to yourself "shey na this John wey no get head I go dey nervous for?" it helps

Thanks for this write up.

I had encountered a lot of embarrassment when I was the head of my unit in an establishment, which required constant public speaking. Man it was hell, because I was a shy and terrible public speaker. But gradually I mastered it and improved on my delivery.

Wow... Is been awhile I login this platform, but am glad I did this morning.
