No matter what you do in life, ensure you are not poor. Yes, it is not really, totally in your power, but ( and this is me speaking as Christian ) GOD has given us the power to make wealth. Recently I did calculations and discovered being poor is very expensive. Very very expensive. Last year I I had to live in an environment where power supply was good ( the first 4 months ), then in December, Nepa changed and I was burning a minimum of 15 litres of fuel. Many atimes as much as 25 litres ( I work from home as a digital marketer with my workers working in the same flat, my family in another place ). When fuel was 620-650 per litre, I was spending about 300k on fuel, plus another 15-20k on Nepa, another 15k-25k for oil and generator repairs. I chose to leave that area and go to a band A area. Three months ago at the thick of the fuel scarcity. My rent in the new place is *2.5 times more ( from 470 to 1.5m per year ). In this new place I spend 100-130k on Nepa with little to no need for fuel ( my total on fuel in the 3 months is less than 30k ). This means from over 300k when fuel was 620-650 to just 130k maximum now that fuel is 1200. If I was still in the same area and spend 15-25 litres per day, I will be spending over 500k on fuel per month. Let's do the maths My new rent is 1.5m per year from 470k per year. Difference is 1.030m per year. Fuel differential 500k to 15k per month ( remember in 3 months I have spent less than 45k in total in this new place ). Differential 485k per month. In one year that will be 485k *12 That's 5,820,000 saves from fuel per year. Now let's remove the differential from rent. 5,820,000 - 1,030,000 Total saving per year ( without factoring cost of generator repairs and maintenance). Savings - 4,790,000 per year. Total savings from Nepa from the previous place ( I spend between 15-20k a month in the previous place on Nepa ) but we will use 15k. That's another 180k saved per month. Total - 4,970,000 Imagine I can't afford that rent, I will be making myself broker and will be struggling to keep up. I am paying more in rent but saving more than 2 times more from fuel and this is before factoring the cost of me having to drive 45-60 minutes to get a good store ( I use GB or Jendol ) to buy my stuffs ( fruits and co ). And the cost of maintaining my car due to terrible road. This thread may be meaningless to some people but I am pretty sure some people will find it useful. No matter what you do, work hard, make money. Being rich is easy, the real issue is leaving the third class level and moving to middle class from where accumulating wealth becomes a lot more easier. |

Poor people would not understand this wonderful analysis. They will only see it as attacked on their personality. Well, poverty is a thing of the mind. |

bluepreek:To educate especially men. Being poor is very very expensive. Recently I discovered I was prediabetic, how? Cos I do comprehensive checks every 3 months. I started doing it cos I have been suffering from arthritis ( which should not be cos of my age ), I started getting worried for my kidneys and decided not to mind the cos and be checking everything every 3 months. Expensive it seems but it saved me big time. I could have been full blown and that would have been way more expensive. My recent result made me think of everything included what I have narrated in this thread. Poverty is freaking expensive. It is fact that can only been seen when a proper analysis is done. |

Nice2023:No one wants to be poor sir, it's just that no matter how what not everybody will be rich and some don't also have the mind to do evil to make fast money which has been happening for a while. |

Peterzoom20:The poverty I am referring to here is that of the mind. That is an everlasting poverty. If u find yourself in that kind of poverty, just know that there is no way out. |

Nice2023:Some will see it like one is bragging, on a faceless forum. But for me, it is an opportunity to educate. Being broke is quiet very expensive, it is a fact. |

And people will still leave in that environment you left and buy solar system to keep up... Rich people uses solar and let the sun pay their bill. using generator is still quite expensive. oliverwrites: |

@op, you're very correct. Take for example, buying things in bulk like a whole seller and buying little as a retailers. Also, Enrolling your children in a good school closer to your house but expensive and enrolling them in a cheap school with poor academic standards and very far from your house. The transport, risk of constantly on the highway on every school day, the poor academic performance. It doesn't make any sense. I recently met this two young students who spent 21k on tp to and fro to school in a week. Calculate 21k by 4, then by 4months. Add it to their current school fees. That's cra.zy |

Missroyalluv:Thank you for this. Many people don't know they are making themselves poorer even when they think they are smart. |

oliverwrites:Merry Christmas to you, the queen and the girls. May God Almighty give us all reasons to celebrate every day of our lives IJN. May God Almighty bless the works of my hands and elevate my status away from being poor to a giver IJN Aside from the analysis on fuel and rent...there are lots of things being poor does to one that being rich or averagely okay wouldn't...e.g see finish, misconception and others. Keledua dakun dabo mase wa leni iya loruko Jesu. |

Newborn27:I know your intentions with this reply but tell you what? If you as a woman, especially a married woman, learn to honour boundaries and not harassing or stalking people, people won't "see you finish". There is something called dignity for a reason. |

Stop putting pressure on people. If Nigeria government was better a lot of job opportunities will be available for people to live a comfortable life. Many has the zeal to make life more better but the economy is not working for them. Oga rest abeg I've visited China and swizaland believe me Nigerians are far more hard working than them we're just cage because of bad leaders. ![]() |
