Later they will say food is scarce when in fact it is not. Instead it is other people that buy everything, not to consume or use it to produce other things, but to store them and sell later just to make profit.

I'd like to do this but it just seems like a disservice to the society.

It is a evil business . Not something I want to go into. It is this storage business that causes the high prices of foodstuff at a certain period of the year. If it is done on a small level, it is not bad. However, if done on a massive scale ( as it is currently being done ) , it is pure evil.

Seriously. Not trying to run down anybody's business but some business people in Nigeria have to do better. It is not just about the money. Think about how you're negatively impacting the society. Why will somebody buy 20,000 bags of beans from the market just to store and sell later? I just think this is wickedness.

i understand u, even islamically is prohibited. But Nigeria is not a sane country, its survival of the feetest. Even if you dont do, other people will do. Do you know what?. Its villagers that are doing this and making money from this. You will see an uneducated person but worth more than 500million.
And now that our country currency is depreciating, people from Niger republic are coming to park our maize and transport it to Niger republic. I know people that moving more than 10 truck weekly from my side.
The thing are so complicated, even we are push to this kind of business because you finished school, no work for the past 6-8 years.
I know alot of people willnot do it but some will do.

Bro, this is a thoughtful response. I thought you'll be triggered, but it just shows that you still have conscience even while doing this business. And what you just explained makes sense. The problem goes deeper. But even at that, I'd rather do something else with my life and money than engage in this. I mean, it's far better to farm and sell than hoarding food and reselling later just for profit. And even doing it for people means you're spreading the idea and further making the problem bigger. With the kind of capital you have, I believe you can still make a lot from direct farming so you can stop this soon. I hope you think thoroughly about this. I wish you all the best.

thats true, what we experience last year is hyper inflation, people push the price while the product still dey available!

i swear some Nigerians are very wicked, we started selling our beans since when the price reached double(80-90) but you know what? Some people still have beans in their store despite beans reaching 200k!!!

Its simply a business sense ...
and not wickedness...
These are part of the bottlenecks. ..over d years...
in the Agric Value chain both FG and SG need to address...
Eliminate harvest and drought season in the system..
Farmers should be able to produce in the rainy and dry season....
It will make no business sense to store 20 bags of beans ...

I don't think the business is wrong if done with the right mindset. Considering the seasonality of agro produce, we need some middlemen to bridge the gap between surplus and scarcity. Even the government is engaged in storage using public silos or other facilities.
The only issue is that many middlemen are greedy and too exploitative. They intentionally create artificial scarcity in order to make abnormal profit.
If done with the right motive, it's a good business.
