Backward integration will take years and huge investment in land and produce, for now, importation of sugar is unavoidable.
Your fine prints are not even helping matters either.😂
This is unbelievably long.

With this battered naira, he'd have to rely on fx from that refinery. He just has to find that pipeline of fx.

Technically, we're importing sugar tongue
Cost will remain high even to final consumers.

So, all the companies with negative equity due to currency devaluation, like MTNN, NESTLE and others, are now building refineries. The irony is that the refinery has nothing to do with it—they've been at a disadvantage since entering negative equity, compounded by poor efficiency.
The bolded is definitely uncalled for. The refinery reference was merely rhetorical, not a claim that every company facing currency challenges is investing in refineries.

I analyzed DS on several occasions, foreseeing challenges that others did not seem to take seriously. I demonstrated why backward integration would be difficult and time-consuming (long term strategy, and will take years and conciderable investments) , and I highlighted the significant issue of negative equity, especially in the context of high interest rates. I also compared DS with BUA Foods to underscore its inefficiencies. Additionally, I explained why owning businesses within the same group does not guarantee they can support each other effectively.

Similarly, I pointed out MTNN's negative equity issue to mcy56, noting how problematic this is in the current economic climate. I presented facts, but some people preferred to ignore them, focusing on emotions rather than evidence. The posts are here, as are the criticisms of them.
Not all negatives for mtn. They actually returned to profit in q3.

MTN Nigeria releases Q3 results

We released our Q3 results on the Nigeria Exchange yesterday. The strong headwinds persisted during the quarter and the MTN Nigeria leadership team ably led by Karl Olutokun Toriola has been doing all within its control to navigate the turbulent waters. This led to our posting a Q3 Profit before tax of N37.6b which reduced our year to date losses before tax to N714b from the N751b reported at the end of June.

We believe that an increase in tariffs, to cushion the huge cost of doing business in these hard times, driven by the devaluation of the currency, escalating inflation and high borrowing costs will not only guarantee sustainability and survival of businesses in the value chain (especially the SME's), but will also ensure the growth of the Nigerian economy on the back of the Telecoms industry which is a key enabler given its total contribution to GDP.

How long will it take for increments to cover 573 billion, assuming they can maintain that momentum? Maybe, I'm missing something.

The thing with this market is that after all said and done, Mr Market will just come and do what “he” likes and then it will appear as though some companies did so well and are not appreciating in price, while some that didn’t do well are getting attention.
Happens all the time.
