I bet you've never used ROIC—Return on Invested Capital—or am I the only one familiar with it?
I have heard about it
(Debt + Equity).
I haven't used it (yet).

Though I would assume a lender(bank) would use:
Return on Debt(ROD) grin

Just as Investors-Shareholders usually will use ROE or ROIC as you highlighted.

Beware
Of those who write in anger
Who spills out emotionally laden analysis as holy grail
Driven by their previous losses, miscalculation
And blinded by their hatred of an individual

Beware
Of those who promoted dangsug and aradel
As if they knew what they were saying
And got folks trapped therein
Just because of their vested interest and MH

For, whether they like it or not, Oando's audited 2023 result is "RENEWED HOPE RELOADED". The foundation of greatness has been laid and the future is brighter than ever!
Your prophesy has always been correct... You spoke about Oando, it happened and you warned about Aradel it also happened.

Many are trapped in Aradel and those without deep pockets are not able to average down.

I agree.
servicing of debt is key.
They must have seen positive pointers in the company.

I just don't usually classify banks as Investors.
In accounting/finance language they are not classified as investors which is French. In real life they are investors because they don't just put thr money in something that will not bring profits and guarantees of thr capital. Therefore in reality we are all investing by putting our money into the business..
Even oga agba still dey invest in inner room matter as an accountant

When they acquired that ConocoPhillips assets some years back, some of us were as excited as some are today with their new acquisition.
I can remember people like sir wanajo and co were telling us to keep our optimism in check.
Acquisition of new assets and obtaining fat loans from banks cannot guarantee the profitability of a company if the managers are insincere and dubious.
That being said, I am happy for those who took risk with early positioning in o and o to ride on the market sentiment.
Going forward,we can only hope that things will be different this time around.

Lol, Here’s what I know: debt and equity are both forms of capital raising, and companies use them to fund their operations. Both sources of funding come with their own risks and benefits.

From a bank’s perspective, they still consider ROIC because, to them, loans are investments. This is what I understand, but I could be wrong—please correct me if I am.

Once we accept that there are more than FA and TA paths to the market, the lesser fruitless back and forth. How can you use FA or financial statements to dissuade those who never based their investment decisions on such in the first instance?

You will explain tire.

This is just "a wish". May never happen.
How will it;
-When a state like Ekiti is destroying Cocoa plantations to build airport that will never contribute one naira to GDP (at least for the next 60 years).
-Many Cocoa plantations have also turned to estates/residence/factory.
-Cocoa is becoming more difficult to plant because of ever decreasing soil quality, limited access to good seedlings, lack of proper research and development.
- Low incentive or support for farmers. How many Cocoa farmers gets fertiliser; ompared to groundnut farmers?
-etc

They are saying that because of the exponential increase in price of Cocoa bean, which becomes more obvious because of devaluation. Cocoa price did not double at international market as it did in Naira.
Cocoa is more difficult than palms, they should know that.

Cocoa production in Nigeria projected to rise by 10% over high prices

Don't you think this calls for attention, concern and discourse .... huh wink

The 9 month EPS of Nahco is N4.71. EPS of N3.00 was made between July and September, if the same thing should happen between October and December the full year EPS will be around N7.71k

If this should happen Nahco will get to between N65.00 and N70.00 or above

Pa Emma, I've seen you suggest to people to invest in bonds at 20%, which makes me believe you hold some of these bonds in your portfolio.

Now to my question, why invest for 20% then turn around and take loans at 27%? Isn't that like hustling backwards? I see a negative spread in this scenario. My understanding is very limited with bonds, that is why I am asking.

The bond gives me regular income for the next 10 years.

Some of the loans can be referred to as bridge loan, assuming you are expecting dividends and coupons of about N10 million in January 2025, and you see a business and an investment opportunity. You can easily borrow against your financial assets and get funds within 48 hours.

At 30% if you pay back the loan in January which is in 2 months time the interest on the loan will be about 5%.

That means the interest on the N10 million will be around 500k.

Meanwhile you used the loan to get eg goods from abroad with a mark up of 50% and above, thereby making a profit of N4.5 million using banks money
