David committed worse sins than Saul yet he was forgiven while Saul was rejected? Why were they treated differently? David’s Sins: Adultery and Murder: David committed adultery with Bathsheba and then arranged for her husband, Uriah, to be k#lled (2 Samuel 11) Census: David ordered a census of Israel, which was against God’s will, leading to a plague on the people (2 Samuel 24) Saul’s Sins: Unauthorized Sacrifice: Saul offered a burnt offering himself instead of waiting for Samuel (1 Samuel 13). Incomplete Obedience: Saul spared King Agag and the best livestock of the Amalekites, disobeying God’s command to destroy everything (1 Samuel 15) The sins of David were more heinous and cruel than those of Saul! Why was he rejected even when he tried seeking God through a dead Samuel? Why was David forgiven without losing his crown? Are there people with special grace and special love from God?

Daejumong:Seeking God through the dead is against the law David was chased by his son if not for God's mercy. David made other mistakes as well, his reaction to his sins are different from those of Saul. Saul was a legalistic person, he almost killed his own son for not fasting if not that the people pleaded, he killed the priests because they feed David, but David was merciful and you would see several examples of David's act of mercy, blessed are the merciful for they will obtain mercy. In all, the heart is what matters, Saul gave excuses for his offenses, David immediately repented and that's what we need to learn when confronted with our wrongs do we excuse them and explain them or genuinely repent from them. Imagine David feeling wrong that God was punishing him for counting the people he was ruling over. 😆 |

Saul, the rejected one, doesn't even agree with you. He himself told David, "You are more righteous than I". 1 Samuel 24:17. It's quite alarming though that many so-called Christians have this ungodly opinion about Saul and David, making it seem that David was unjustly favoured ahead of Saul, despite God Himself making it clear that David walked uprightly before Him and was committed to obeying His commandments when the same couldn't be said of Saul. 1 Kings 9:4. This disparity in the opinions of most Christians about David compared to God's, could be explained by the saying of God about people worshipping Him with their mouth and lips but their hearts were far from Him. God bless. |

Saul's sins were a lot worse than David's. For one, David's sin was caused by temptation, and he committed another sin to cover up the first one. Saul's sin was a direct disobedience of God's instructions. Now, the major point is this. See their both reactions when God sent His prophets to convict them of their sins. David immediately saw his fault, and accepted responsibility, while seeking for God's mercies and forgiveness. Saul, on the other hand, was even trying to justify himself. He didn't even care about what he did wrong. He was particular about not looking bad in the presence of his military commanders. Instead of seeking God's mercies and forgiveness, he downright abandoned his allegiance to God, and went seeking for solutions from the devil. |

Dtruthspeaker:No, that's not it. David repented as soon as he was shown in error. Saul on the other hand never repented. He was even telling Samuel after Samuel broke the message from God to him "Honour me now before this people". He was proud, David was humble. This is the difference between the two. |

GothamCities:Do you know Esau repented? Yet was he not forgiven. Even Moses too. As you see many people have sinned and they ask for forgiveness and you see this in women but as you see many are not forgiven for and cannot be forgiven. So it is not about repentance but about not committing a sin God would make God so angry that He would never forgive such a person. And read it, Saul disobeyed the first time andI God wrote him off but based on the appeal of Samuel, he got a second chance of which Samuel even FORE WARNED him. Yet, saul proved God right again. |

Dtruthspeaker:My brother, repentance is still key in one's dealings with God. A contrite and humble spirit, God will not despise. God forgave Moses. He only denied him Canaan. Moses continues to be relevant in God's plan for man. Esau did not commit any sin. He only made a grave mistake of selling his birthright which cannot be refunded. God didn't condemn Esau for any sinful act. He only made a wrong decision in life that affected his generations. He didn't commit any sin per say. Saul disobeyed, God made Him know He was angry. Instead of humbling himself and repenting, he was concerned about being honored. He didn't stop there, he murdered all the priests of Nob. He also murdered the Gibeonites, breaking a long standing covenant between the Gibeonites and the Israelites. He would also pursue David all his life to murder him. Finally, he practiced necromancy just before he died. He never retraced his steps back to God. He went on sinning and never repented. Read the Psalms and see how David was Constantly repenting, asking God to try him and search him out. "Create in me a new heart oh Lord, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy Presence Oh Lord, take not thine Holy Spirit from me." This was a prayer David prayed after killing the wife of Uriah. Did Saul ever pray like this? No. "A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise." — Psalm 51:17. This verse above emphasizes the importance of humility and a willingness to acknowledge and repent from one's sins. It reassures us that God values and accepts those who approach Him with a humble and contrite heart. This was one of the secrets of David. |

GothamCities:True repentance is very important however, God has shown us that there are things that repentance will not cure. Do you not see the bible shows that God held Moses to that "speak to the rock affair throughout"? Clearly, God did not forgive that one. Secondly, you say Esau did not sin? My brother, learn to seek for Truth and stop following the bandwagon. If you followed Truth you would have see what sins Esau committed that got him to be hated by God eg his taking of a wife from the very people which God had already commanded that they must not take from, then he did it twice. (polygamy) from Google Why did Esau marry two wives? In taking two wives, Esau acted the same as the men of the Flood generation, who also took two spouses: one to provide them with offspring, and the other to provide them with sexual pleasure (see Adah, the wife of Lamech). And what the bible meant when He Said Esau despised his birth right. And the bible shows that Esau later understood and had a contrite heart but he could not get forgiveness. My brother let us walk fearfully that we may never do that which can never be forgiven. |

Dtruthspeaker:God forgave Moses. He continued to commune with him. In fact, it was God who buried Moses by Himself. Secondly, Esau you say Esau did not sin? My brother, learn to seek for Truth and stop by following the bandwagon. If you followed by Truth you would have see what sins Esau committed that got him to be hated by God eg his taken of a wife from the very people which God had already commanded by that they must not take from, then he did it twice. (polygamy)God didn't tell Esau and his family not to marry from there. That commandment came during the days of Moses. Esau lived long before Moses and had no such commandment. from GoogleRemember that Jacob married two wives too. Abraham had a wife and a concubine. David had several wives. And what the bible meant when He Said Esau despised his birth right. That's not a sin. It's a misstep. A wrong attitude to life. That's not iniquity or sin. He didn't do wickedness to God or anybody by despising his birthright. And the bible shows that Esau later understood and had a contrite heart but he could not get forgiveness. No, he later understood that selling the birthright had a spiritual connotation beyond the ordinary physical eating of porridge. He wanted to retrieve his birthright but it was no longer possible. He however still got blessed but not with the original blessing meant for Firstborns. My brother let us walk fearfully that we may never do that which can never be forgiven.Yeah, thanks for the advice brother. There are sins that wound never be forgiven. The Bible says that only sins committed against the Holy Ghost have no forgiveness. |

GothamCities:Surely, you understand that i do not say that God condemned whole of Moses because of his sin. Every man sins. But what we can all see is that Moses offended God in something which God did not forgive. And that is the point. GothamCities:The Commandment was there even before Moses for God had already told Abraham that Canaan was going to be his because God hated them and was going to destroy the them. That is one of the tenets of the Covenant. And now Esau went attaching himself to the people God planned on destroying, the very Baalpeor matter, you see occurred again in Moses time and God's Judgment was still the same. Now you see one of the gravity of Esau's discard of his birth right. GothamCities:Jacob: Not by his will Abraham: God never spoke to him to after that unlike before. David: Was punished far above any man. The thread is not about polygamy, so leave this issue. Polygamy is addressed in this thread and everything you say and are going to say was said here. Dtruthspeaker:Yeah, I clearly understand your point. We cannot compare Moses's case with that of Saul. God forgave Moses but He didn't forgive Saul because Saul never asked for forgiveness. Moses on the hand did seek forgiveness and got it. Otherwise, God would have cast him out as Her did Saul. Your argument will stand only if you can show me that Saul asked for forgiveness and God refused to forgive him. God continued to have a rich relationship with Moses because he sought forgiveness and got it but by principle, God would not allow him enter Canaan. If God didn't forgive him, his relationship with God will be broken like that of Saul was broken. The Commandment was there even before Moses for God had already told Abraham that Canaan was going to be his because God hated them and was going to destroy the them. That is one of the tenets of the Covenant. He didn't tell Abraham or anyone not to marry from Canaan. There was no such covenant in the days of Abraham and Esau. And now Esau went attaching himself to the people God planned on destroying, the very Baalpeor matter, you see occurred again in Moses time and God's Judgment was still the same.Your emphasis was on polygamy. There was no outright law of God that forbade them marrying more than one wife or marrying from Canaan. Now you see one of the gravity of Esau's discard of his birth right. His birthright is a different issue from his marital life. Jacob: Not by his willBut no one forced two wives on him. Abraham: God never spoke to him to after that unlike before.No. God continued to speak with Abraham. It was only his association with Lot that made God stop talking to him for a while. Immediately after Lot left for Sodom, God started talking with Abraham and gave him great promises. David: Was punished far above any man.Not because of polygamy. Infact, God told David that He gave him all the many wives of Saul. How can God punish someone for what He gave the person? The thread is not about polygamy, so leave this issue. Polygamy is addressed in this thread and everything you say and are going to say was said here. And they did not stand. You were the one who actually raised the polygamy issue as a proof that Esau sinned. There's nowhere in the Bible where polygamy was said to be a sin especially in the Old testament. God even gave laws regarding how polygamists should treat their children, saying that the inheritance of the firstborn should always go to the first born even if he is not the son of the favorite wife. Elkannah, Samuels father was a polygamist. Boaz, the father Obed, the father of Jesse, father of David was a polygamist. Polygamy was a well established practice in Israel. Even the law of Moses never condemed it. Esau could not have been said to sin just because he married many wives. Neither can he be said to have sin because he sold his birthright. He didn't seek the God of his father's like Jacob did. If he committed any sin, that was his sin. Not the birthright or polygamy issue. Neither is it the Canaanite woman issue. Ruth was from Moab, yet Boaz married her and he was blessed. |

Daejumong:David committed the sin that's peculiar to those in high positions but in his heart he was a humble person which God valued most! Saul committed the sin that's unforgivable which is directly blaming God for his blunders. When David sinned he was acting on impulse and seeking ways to cover up but after Nathan has exposed him David humbly admitted his errors. Saul sinned but when Samuel God's prophet called him out Saul blamed God saying the things taken out of Amalek will be used as sacrifice to God after all this same God will soon ask for sacrifices. So instead of admitting his errors Saul was justifying himself. And as for visiting a witch he is turning his back on God by doing the worst thing God detests. Deuteronomy 18:11 |

Dtruthspeaker:Okay, I don't think I've seen that. Verse 25 of which chapter? Did you see any where God told Cain do not murder? or do you see where God told the people before Noah that they should not do evils eg kill, steal, prostitute, witchcraft, idolatry, adultery etc?No, God didn't tell anybody anything. Everyone was guided by their consciences at the time. There was no particular law of God given to man before Moses. Please state the verses and chapters highlighting such laws if you have any. As Paul warned in Romans, 2:14, Nature already taught us to know that we know The Law and that polygamy is evil as proven by the fact that when we were courting our first wife, no where did we tell her that she would be our first wife. We rather even give her the impression that she would be our only wife. So my, brother,we already knew God's Laws even before God Spelt them out in Writing.I don't think this is correct. Paul didn't address the issue of polygamy in any of his writings. He only adviced that a bishop should be the husband of one wife. When he talked about the law of God written in our hearts (our conscience), he was talking about grievous sins such as murder, etc. And when he talked about what nature has taught us, on one occasion he was addressing those who say there's no God. On another occasion he was addressing those men who loved to wear long hairs like women. There's no scripture in which Paul talked about polygamy as a naturally known evil. Birthright is what damned the Angels who left their birthright estate.Angels were never born, so angels don't know anything called birthright. You need to be born to have a birthright. He was forced. And force is not only physical harm.He had a choice my brother. He could decide to maintain Leah. No one forced Rachael on him. See how dodged to Lot issue, in which there was no wrong there at all, whereas i pointed out the clear spot where God completely stops talking to Abraham when he did a wrong which as you yourself have proved, you are holding on to him on that wrongdoing. It isn't my thought. It's in the Bible. God was no longer talking to Abraham while lot was with him. Perhaps because of the feud and dissension among their herdsmen. Then when Lot left for Sodom, the Bible says in Genesis 13:14. "And the LORD spoke to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward;" This was the first conversation God had with Abraham after a long time of silence. Whereas, there are 3 people who scored God's score of "Perfect" to wit, Noah, Daniel, Job and not David nor Abraham nor Jacob. Not on the basis of polygamy or monogamy. It was on the basis of the pious life which they lived. Oh, David had several wives but God called him "a man after my own heart" And this except for Daniel, these had one wife. No sin the or adultery imputed and to any of these but you people who will not see these to hold and use for the perfect ensample of God's approved Wimners and Champions who have no blemish in line with God's Commandment!Their sinlessness was not on the basis of having one wife or no wife. It was on the basis of their pious lives. Or are you saying that everyone who has no wife or one wife is just as perfect and sinless like these people? Rather you choose men who are blameworthy and guilty of wrongdoing. whereas God commanded blamelessness and the Noah, Daniel and Job are the perfect ensamples. There were many others who had one wife or had no wife like these people. So many people like them in the world. Are we to conclude that they too are just as blameless as the people you have listed? |
