I can help u,without dismantling the engine.it will cost u abt 300k for all the materials and it wont take up to 6 days to see the result.but be rest assured its for life. I wont advice u to ring or change your rings. A factory rings is everlasting.ring is not battery ... yad2eidi: |

temmym4:Nice tip. The conditions may not be exact to all individuals so its still best to approach with caution while choosing who carries out the repairs and the experience and knowledge they have. |

There is nothing bad overhauling an engine. If you get a competent technician, Tey should be able to help you with things like these. For me, I prefer to rebuild engines, then buying those used engines here. Those engines are just a risk. You do not know the history of such engines, but you are told "na grade one oga, we give you 20 years guarantee blabla" Regards, |

The secret about used engines is that, they only last 4 to 5 months b4 it starts smoking or shortening oil. Why because 99% of rhe used engines at ladipo are junk engines with blown gasket, leaky gasket, dead carbon filled piston crown, stuck rings, adulterated naija fuel, fake naija lubricants......b4 u know it,4months later.u are already at mechanic. A toks engine with at least 70k 80k miles is still OK,even up to let's say 110k miles.anything outside that from abroad,be ready to change the water pump, plugs, belts, alternator, battery, radiator, coolant, gear oil,ac ,etc that's if u want to scatter the car in nigeria, cause all the mechanics here are quacks, the sold called interior upgrades are also quacks, who are quick to break interior plastics. Most Nigerians will only change tyre and engine oil with spark plugs.the rest na bomb.so why then will u allow a quack to open your engine.it must smoke after 4months. |

I have ringed some vehicles including a commercial bus that frequents lagos from Abuja like 3 times in a week..it's been perfect for more than 6 months now..no oil shortage,no smoke but i used a filler guage to properly gap the rings..the 1st ring set according to toyota repair manual states..0.20m-0.30m max..second ring set-0.30m-0.40m max and 3rd oil ring set-0.10m-0.45m max..after measuring all this rings according to specs when installed i used oil rich in zinc 20w-50 for initial start up runs for 30mins..change it and use another 20w-50 for 500miles..the engine must be driven and allowed to coast to seat the rings to the cylinder walls properly..must never be allowed to idle for long periods..change the oil to any synthetic of ur choice afterwards..this is my way and has held up for more than a year for 2004 camry i did before the 2TR bus..i am a DYI guy not a mechanic |

Setting of valve for some vehicles like 2az-fe must be done with a filler guage..the specs for intake and exhaust is at toyota repair manual..you mustn't buy another engine..buy few of those solid valves from scrap engines..they have numbers behind them..it indicates how thick the valve bucket is.. |

bryan360:Am planning on ringing my 2AZ-FE, it's in a bad state. Burning engine oil like crazy 😥🤦 |
| Re: My Experience "Ringing" An Engine by bryan360: 1:00am On May 01, 2025 |
id4sho:2az block are don't usually have issues..you can rebuild it..buy new pistons & rings..get a filler gauge and measure the end gap..possibly assist your mechanic to do that..this alone will make the engine to last much longer without burning any oil..you can find ring end gap on toyota's repair manual..there's no need to rebuild the engine if this critical steps is missed..buy a toks engine |

Greetings to all Auto experts here. My 2AZ Engine is shorting oil and there is sign of oil in the radiator. Looking at the cost of replacing the engine, should I rebuild the engine and if I rebuild, will it last long? Please advise me. |
