Fake it till you make it. Na so neighbours go dey call lab attendant "doctor" or mechanic "engineer". Feel good! cheesy

They are truly a cocoa company but have been the doldrums for years. Same way Naija (particularly because of the SW) is a cocoa country on ground and not just on paper but we all know the story.

For JapaulSand, since they acquired real Gold companies with mining licences that should justify their name change to JapaulGold? cheesy

Did you even read the article. It Is not everything that is politics. The good news is cocoa farmers are making good money based on many factors mentioned in the article just like the guys in palmoil too.The naira devaluation is a gain to some businesses like we saw in banks. The main gain came from price surge in cocoa at the international market in dollars

ositadima1:
Description of Biological Assets (Note 17 of 2023 Financial Reports)

Biological assets consist of growing cane, which is expected to be harvested as agricultural produce for sugar production. These assets have been measured at fair value less the cost to sell. As of December 31, 2023, the group has a total of 8,283 hectares of growing cane (2022: 8,092 hectares).

Yield Estimation and Sugar Production Potential

The yield of sugarcane varies significantly based on factors like soil quality, climate, and farming practices. We can make a rough estimate using the following assumptions:

Average yield: Approximately 60-100 tons of sugarcane per hectare per year
Given area: 8,283 hectares
Conservative estimate: 70 tons per hectare

This results in:

8,283 hectares times 70 tons/hectare = 579,810 tons of sugarcane per year

The amount of sugar produced from sugarcane also varies, but on average:

1 ton of sugarcane yields about 100-110 kg of sugar

From our estimated yield:

579,810 tons times 100 kg/ton = 57,981,000 kg or about 58,000 tons of sugar

Future Independence Projection

Achieving full independence in sugar production will take much more than four years. The Dangote Refinery has an installed capacity of 1.44 million tonnes per year, would require about 24 times its current (8,283 hectares) size.

Based on the balance sheet, the value of the biological assets increased from 6.9 billion to 14.4 billion while the land area increased from 8,092 hectares to 8,283 hectares. Acquiring an additional 191 hectares likely cost around 7.5 billion, indicating that acquiring sufficient land to meet the refinery's capacity would require approximately 7 trillion naira (or 336 billion, ok i am getting conflicting numbers and i am sleepy too grin ).

In conclusion, substantial investment and expansion are needed to achieve the desired production capacity.

Note that I used help of Claude to make this assumptions.

grin grin grin
They had about 8,000 hectares at the time. Did you notice they’re shifting the timeline from 4 years to 6 years now? I still think it will take even longer. With their current negative equity and unsecured loans at nearly 30% interest for working capital, acquiring enough land to reach 150,000 hectares will be extremely challenging. Incidentally, my calculations were quite close—I estimated they’d need 24 times the existing 8,000 hectares to achieve full independence. It’s going to be a long and tortuous journey for DangSugar. Good for Jijo, but it may not be the best choice for a long-term investment. Perhaps the merger, if it happens, could add some excitement for Jijo enthusiasts. shocked shocked shocked

Take a look at the snapshot I quickly put together. There may be errors as I was rushing to finish before watching the new episode of Silo. You’ll notice that while debt is increasing, equity is growing at a faster rate. The debt-to-equity ratio remains well below 100%, and for 2024, the 70% figure represents the first six months. I’m positive that it will be lower by year-end. The blue cell in the corner is where I doubled the equity value to annualize the six-month data. Everything else should be self-explanatory.
The most recent results for the company is q3 2024 and I think it would have been better if you had used the 9 months result for your computation.
The net profit for 9 months is less than 300b.

I struggle to see how Wale will fail to turn Oando at this juncture. He has the wind at his back.

Stumbled on a report that an extra 300MW is now ready to hit the grid from Okpai phase 2 leaving just 150MW till Q3 2025.

A back of the envelope calculation of Power companies using only one metric - market capitalisation.

Let's look at the Market valuation of listed Power companies on the NGX.

Geregu > OS x SP = 2,500,000,000 x 1150 = N2,875,000,000,000
Geregu Name plate capacity = 435MW
Otedola factor and free float influenced valuation so grossly unreliable.

Transcorp Power > 7,500,000,000 x N360 = N2,700,000,000,000
Transcorp Power Name plate capacity = 2000MW (approx)
1MW = N2,700,000,000,000 / 2000MW = N1,350,000,000

Asssuming we can rely on this figure as an industry metric;
Okpai IPP (1 & 2) Name plate capacity = 1000MW (approx)
Okpai IPP (1 & 2) market valuation = N1,350,000,000 per MW x 1,000 MW = N1,350,000,000,000
Oando's share = 40% of N1,350,000,000,000 = N540,000,000,000

Since the FG has been keen to privatise power plants lately, I say Wale should whisper in Uncle's ear that he wants to buy the FG's share in the JV. Take bank loan and buy up the remaining 60% (FG will sell cheap cheesy) , transfer to existing shareholders and list Oando power (Okpai IPP 1& 2) on the NGX.

OR

After buying up FG's stake, list on the NGX, either do a share sale to the public or a PP to strategic investors (instant profit) and pay down some of the outstanding bank loans.

Oando's situation is unique in the sense that, not only does it Oando a stake in the IPP, it also supplies gas to the IPP as part of the JV.

Disclaimer - Na just speculation levels o. Options suppose dey sha. A lot of irons in the fire. Wale say make we #BetOnOando

I don’t understand what you’re trying to prove here. Yes, the 9-month revenue is less than ₦300 billion, but it was still higher than the 9-month revenue in 2023, which ended up closing the year at ₦455 billion. Revenue and costs fluctuate throughout the year; sometimes, costs are more concentrated during specific periods, and the same can happen with revenue. In my opinion, a 6-month period provides a better representation, second only to a full-year analysis.
