What The FIFA Best Player Awards Taught Me About Human Emotions by Gideonski(op): 7:32am On Dec 18, 2024
The FIFA Best Player Awards was held yesterday, 17th December 2024 with Vini emerging as the winner of the covetous price. Many people thought this is the least he deserved after losing the Balon D'or to Manchester City's Rodri.
However what caught my attention after the whole thing was that after the ceremony, it was revealed by Fabrizio Romano that Lionel Scaloni, Argentina national team manager voted Messi as his top player of the year! Coming in second and third places in his list were Rodri and Bellingham.
I couldn't help but think why Messi would still be considered as a contender for this award. I like Messi very much, but I think one of the reasons why he has won so many Balon D'ors is because he is liked by coaches and other sports enthusiasts better than his arch rival Ronaldo.
Messi is a talented and amazing player but that is not all. He is also portrayed by the media as a humble, cool headed player that deserves everything because of his personality even when his efforts doesn't necessarily deserve that particular recognition. Ronaldo on the other hand is seen as an arrogant, selfish and immature individual. He has to work his ass out for everything he gets, and also have to deal with how people perceive his personality.
They both have a huge section of fans, but when it comes to voting for prestigious awards, fans don't vote. Some selected individuals do, which I have noticed that Messi have triumphed more in this area because he is liked better. Ronaldo gets to win only when Messi is having a bad year.
Rodri triumphed over Vini because a set of people liked him better than the Brazilian even when the latter has more fans and supporters.
In this life, sometimes hard work will not always get you want you want especially when they are people to decide your fate. People might like and prefer someone else even when you are equally or even more deserving of recognition. People are loyal to their emotions and how they feel about the person they like. Just do your best and accept it. Life goes on.

See better thread but no engagement.

Back to the topic op. You see in this life, one thing you shouldn't joke with is "likability". If a person likes you,you can do little wrong in his eyes and you shall be entitled to his favors too.

So you are belittling the hardwork of Messi, Rodri and others....
But the truth is that it's a world run by humans and you need to connect to humans emotions too ..
Arrogant people will vote arrogant folks too...

not entirely true, messi has God fathers. he’s neither humble nor respectful, have you forgotten when messi told a man diagnosed with cancer “ CAMERA WOWO” during the world cup. you can lookup the translation. messi is a sp*oit little brat

Is it difficult to comprehend? He isn't belittling, he is correlating what happened in the balandior and FIFA best awards and the effect of likability with references to Messi and Ronaldo.

If you're hoping on people to like you, you'll never go far in life.

As a Manchester united fan i can boldly say Messi deserve every single award and honor he got.
His coach voted him which is a norm for every national team coach.
As to why he was nominated in the first place, would you want to compare the stats with other people that were also nominated?

Please for the sake of standard lets not mention any player that has never played a word cup final once in his career, lets keep to standard on this thread.

That's your own mentality and I'm not ready to convince you to drop it.

All i know is likability is one of the most important aspect of success. Especially when you have superiors with authority over you.

Coming from a Manchester united /Ronaldo fan.

Messi won more than Rolando because Messi is far better than Ronaldo wen it comes to football, nevertheless, the awards not always perfect.

To me, Messi is supposed to win it 6 times and Ronaldo 4 times.

Two times they favour Messi and once they did same to Ronaldo.

Last night I was there live to see him provide an assist and score a penalty in Madrid 3-0 win over Mexico Pachuca in front of over 67,200 people the prestigious Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
Thereafter he was awarded MOM, afterwards the player of the tournament...let's wait and see how things pan out at the next balon dior...
Character or attitude is everything but it still depends on who is judging you on those indices. Vini has been abused , thrown bananas and all sorts by opposing fans and racists .. different people react differently to things ...so I won't judge him harshly.. he's not perfect but to imply that he may have been denied the ballon dior solely because of his flawed character is not acceptable at all

Wotoporiously cool speaking

Just like the way you typed this with emotions, I know you're emotional about this cuz if you weren't you wouldn't even be talking about it, truth is we're all controlled by human emotions, the few people who are not are considered heartless, wicked etc but I have come to understand that people that execute judgement without attaching emotions to it always tend to have the upper hand.

It's the same human emotions that makes people question why Messi is favoured over other players but when it's time to vote the leave out their emotions and become brutal, the same person they keep complaining about every year but they can't be brutal enough not to choose him any time an award comes up, what does that tell you? 🤷 People are more brutal in their decision making compared to when they get in their feelings about the aftermath of their decision.

The world is practical and theory, it needs both for balance to exist.
