MTN Pays ₦200bn Monthly In VAT, The Highest — Tax Committee

The Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has disclosed that MTN Nigeria contributes over N200 billion in Value Added Tax monthly, making it the largest contributor to the nation’s VAT pool.

Oyedele made the disclosure recently while speaking as a panellist during Channels Television’s Town Hall on Tax Reforms.

He used the platform to highlight disparities in the current VAT distribution system and explained the reforms aimed at addressing them.

According to the tax expert, the current system allocates all VAT paid by the country’s biggest telco to Lagos State, where the company’s headquarters is located, even though the services that generate this revenue are consumed nationwide.

“MTN is the largest contributor to VAT in Nigeria. So they, in fact, pay VAT of over N200bn every month; the gap between them and number two is huge.”
That’s like 2.4Trillion per annum—very unlikely

It's the qualification date that is the koko. If it had already passed yesterday, no rally.
It seems the qualification date has not been fixed yet, going by Oando's ''Corporate Actions'' publication dated today 18-Dec-2024

That clause was actually from the shareholders at the AGM. The popular opinion for adopting it was to prevent the flooding of the market with excess shares without notice.

Without that clause, OANDO would have been trading at #50 this morning.

You don't have to worry about the clause ''shares or cash equivalent''. That is a standard clause or language that is used when communicating this kind of resolution. Every company uses the same clause when they want to distribute bonus shares. Cash payments can only be for dividends.
Oando does not even have the cash to pay right now and they specifically stated ''shares redistribution'' in the notice of AGM and it was confirmed and passed at the AGM. So no cash payment at all.

I think the dates will be announced soonest.

But paying in installments doubles the cost and wahala of doing this. Those that want to sell will always sell. Just recently UCAP did it, and there wasn't any sustained rush to sell. I think these amendments were the wish of the management.

At its facts behind the figures event held at the NGX yesterday, management of NAHCO shared snippets from its plans to hit N300 billion in revenue in 5 years. One point was missing. The cost.

I am glad that no cash payments will be contemplated, because I can imagine all sorts of complications.

There won't be any paying in installments. No cash will be paid.
The company will only announce the qualifying date, and dates for closure/update of register of shareholders.
If you qualify, your additional shares will be credited to your CSCS/CHN account once and for all.
