I think market capitalization for CHAMS today stands around 10.4B.Journey is still very very far.They never start the grinder for beans self.

Who can help make sense of these NBS figures.

This is what I think:

In 2022, the country's GDP was around 180trn, then in 2024, it's being measured by NBS as 198trn.

It looks like they're aren't doing any real measurements. They just sit in their air conditioned offices and churn out figures that have almost zero correlation with reality.


Between 2022 and 2024, there's hardly any good or service that hasn't increased by at least 50%.

Start with garri: 2022 was #700 per paint, 2024 was #2800 per paint (300%)
Rice: 100%

Now to oil:2022: about 500m barrels produced at say $80 and #460 to the USD, that's roughly 20trn.
2024: about 550m barrels produced at say $75 dollars and #1500 to the USD, that's roughly 65trn.

So oil alone has added 45trn

Then check MTNN revenue in 2022 as a matter of fact, check NSE30 revenue in 2022 vs 2024 NSE30 alone added over 5trn if not close to N10trn.


I think whatever they're measuring that's placing the economy as the 4th or 5th largest on the continent needs a thorough inspection, cos the same devaluation that they think has forced down the GDP numbers in dollar terms has doubled or in some cases quadrupled the values of all the goods and services that make up the GDP.

Then inflation, at the height of the naira crash in February 2024 when dollar was touching 1900, there was no food item that had not doubled in price compared to February 2023 when USD was 730.

So why were they reporting food inflation at 35%? What kind of items make up their basket, abi which store were they making the purchases from?

It basically feels like NBS figures are not at all connected to the economy, they just churn out whatever they feel like, or perhaps whatever a thwarted computer algorithm spins out.


Maybe I'm missing something, someone WHO KNOWS better can enlighten.

NSEMPA: Nigeria Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts – Name of the thread.

FA: Fundamental Analysis – Stock analysis done with fundamentals of a stock such as financial statements and other economic indicators.

TA: Technical Analysis – Stock analysis done with using some technical tools and charts.

GA: Gut Analysis – From claims of having “gut feelings” about how a stock will move.

SA: Spiritual or Sentimental Analysis – From sentimental attachment to a stock and claims of spiritual insight into the future of a stock.

MH: Monkey hunting/ Monkey hunter – An allegation/accusation that a stock is being manipulated either by calls to buy or sell off. The "monkey hunter" then profits by buying more or selling off their holdings when prices move in their favour.
Background: From story of a businessman who goes to a village to buy monkeys. He buys at different intervals at ever higher prices thus creating a market for monkeys along with artificial scarcity. Cowboys: CEOs of notable companies who are considered to display manipulative business tactics.

One Afolabi Unit: 2,000 units of any stock.
Background: I can’t recall. Someone should kindly provide the story behind the “Afolabi units” term.

JIJO: Jump in, Jump out. Term used by traders. Means buying a stock and selling at the very shortest term especially as soon as it makes some gains.

Tashere Units: Very few numbers of shares bought or left unsold. Amount depends on the person. Such shares are either bought or left in the portfolio to have a "foot in the door”, e.g. so as not to have to process e-dividend all over again or just to see how the stock will perform.

Loot: A gloating or bragging term for large profit from short term trade. A jackpot from JIJO. (As described by @Zendi)

Bull from Burundi: A way to describe noticeable general rise in the prices of stocks. An apparent play on the words bull and Burundi.

On normal production seasons, Malaysian Palm Olein are shipped to the coast of West Africa at competitive prices. Ghana is not excluded. I wonder where the Ghanaian company exports to for USD/EUR.

Where did you get the 198 trillion naira data from? As at Q2 2024, it was 229 trillion naira on the NGX website from what I saw.

I wanted to encourage you to buy chams with the money no matter the price but you know better than me in this game.

I have some units I have been buying monthly, WAC is 38 Naira.
My Target price is 60 Naira. But I'm not selling even at my target price.

When you are in a happy position to own a high quality business like that, there's nothing else to do, than to watch the paint dry.
It's a coffee can Investment for me.

If you sell prestige which still has more growth potentials to buy chams which you can't get enough units or nothing,it's a wasted effort.

For example streetinvestor2 sold Afriprud at N11 to rebalance on chams at 1.95,he succeeded on that because chams was dominated by the seller.
Yesterday,he sold Ucap at N21 to buy chams today but he refused to buy because he missed the target of N2.

The question is seeing chams all the time at 1.90+,will you be happy to sell prestige at full bid to buy chams at full bid 2.54 on Monday?

I suspect you are conflating nominal GDP with real GDP.

Nominal GDP -- the raw GDP number -- is sensitive to inflation, and appears to be what you are thinking about. Real GDP adjusts the nominal one for inflation using something called the GDP deflator, so its growth is less remarkable but speaks to actual underlying progress in the economy.

Believe it or not, NBS is a top-notch organization. Their website, though...
