just like saying the medical field is oversaturated because of the number of medical doctors we have or the finance industry is saturated because of the number of accountants we produce? No matter how saturated a field is there will always be jobs, what distinguishes you among others is how good you are and how unique you are in your approach to solve problems.. remember among the saturated people, there are lots of quacks who don't know their onions but are just there just to be tagged a programmer, some will die, but the jobs will remain..
well said

Ok I get you now 😂😂😂 Software development is about being optimistic. Here in Europe I've had to change my mobile number as agencies will not stop calling my numbers day and night for tech roles 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bullshit. I only responded as to not discourage newbies. I also heard the same thing then that it was saturated. I was working in Nigeria left Nigeria learnt another language and still working in the same field which is said to be saturated 😂😂. If you are in Nigeria and you have the opportunity to learn to code better take it very seriously especially if someone is supporting you with electricity and internet. Take it like your life depends on it. You can continue being negative it’s none of my business. You don’t know me and I don’t know you.

I am being Authentic! I have a computer sci degree and I have been programming in Europe for decades now, so I know the field inside out very well. I am not discouraging anyone but just to let them know what they are up against before they start, so that they can have a plan B.

Another major point out there is that the entry barrier for a software developer is very low, anybody from any field can become a programmer, someone with a degree in theater art for instance can learn how to code and become a competition for you who has a computer science degree, I personally have a child hood friend who studied history in the University and is now employed as a software developer. In some cases there are even people who have gotten employed as a software developer with no undergraduate degree.

It's just like a field for everyone.

Also, a point the YouTube guy hited is the fact that machine learning and artificial intelligence is taking over, most of the jobs that usually need to be manually done by a software developer can now be automated and done with some software that can be operated by anyone with just some basic computer skills.

I fear for the future or this field,
it seems like in a not so distant future having a skill in software development would be as common as having a skill in Microsoft word or Excel.

You make it sound so easy like you are the one dishing out the jobs.

Look at this roles in Europe on LinkedIn:

Lead Dotnet Developer 14 hours ago · Over 100 applicants

Senior C# Developer -16 hours ago · 83 applicants

Java Software Engineer 2 weeks ago · 57 people clicked apply

This shit is crazy. The only place you'll get fewer applications is those Scandinavian countries and those ones sef depends on whether it's remote or onsite. Simple entry level jobs sef don get over 100 applicants, the rest will be thrown into the bin.

Lol. No be small matter. I get the same results from here. But I think because linkedin has easy to apply features, everyone is trying their luck because there's no harm in trying or self-rejecting.

Tensazangetsu20 strategy of "Blue Ocean Strategy" won't be bad. Their are other tech roles like c++/embedded roles that are less competitive because of hardware knowledge or the Salesforce he is currently doing which requires certifications.

That's how I got my current role. Not the type of mullah that boy is hitting in Chile but it's a good start grin lol

This will be my final comment on this thread. If you’re a Nigerian living in Nigeria in 2025 and are fortunate enough to have a supportive family or someone who can help you with essentials like internet access and fuel for a generator while you learn to code, take it as seriously as if your life depends on it—because it does. Opportunities like this might never come again, not even if you move abroad.

Nigeria isn’t improving. When I started learning to code, ₦75,000 could buy a decent laptop. That same laptop now costs around ₦300,000. Electricity wasn’t as expensive, fuel was less than ₦200 per liter, and internet access was more affordable.

If you think moving abroad will make learning easier, think again. Once you leave Nigeria, the reality of bills hits hard unless you have a wealthy family to support you. Many Nigerians abroad end up stuck in exhausting, menial jobs for years just to survive.

So if you have the chance to learn coding in Nigeria, grab it with everything you’ve got. It could be the one opportunity that changes your life forever.

tensazangetsu20:
The Nigerian economy is struggling and isn’t growing fast enough to support the creation of startups or generate more jobs. Nigerians often face discrimination abroad, and securing a remote job while living in Nigeria has become incredibly difficult. This is one of the reasons why tech seems oversaturated in Nigeria, even though that’s not the case in many other places.

Here in Chile, for example, they offer paid apprenticeships where people are taught how to code and earn a salary while learning. It’s a system that not only empowers individuals but also contributes to the growth of the tech industry. The contrast is stark and highlights the challenges many Nigerians face in pursuing opportunities back home.
Makes sense, it’s well with Nigeria!

I endorse this message.

The best time to learn to code is now. Most people are not interested anymore, if you can learn, you'd have too much jobs at your disposal because companies are still recruiting everyday. Trust me. wink

Salesfoce and C++ are not left out see the number of applicants on LinkedIn. I will say that if anyone is going into software development and are not well connected or want to start their own software development business or ready to switch to another field later if they can't find a software development job, then it's better they just learn it for the fun of it if thy are really interested in software development.

Re: Software Development Is Now An Oversaturated Field by Maj196(m):
Learning to code doesn't mean you have to become a web or mobile developer that's where people are getting it wrong, it gives you a headstart in transitioning to tech, because in the end you would need that coding knowledge as you go further.
If you feel software development is getting saturated by all means try other tech fields. I recommend cybersecurity because it's one of the few fields that's difficult to break into and even for AI to penetrate.

Over 100 people applied for this tech job in Chille, truth is that software development is an oversaturated field everywhere as it has no barrier to entry, for this reason most tech jobs are who you know that cannot do a good job that get in and companies are happy to get a good contractor in to do their job for them.
This screenshot says over 100 people clicked "Apply", it means by just clicking the Apply button, It increases the count. It does not mean over 100 people actually applied for the job.

Besides, only around 10% of every 100 applicants are actually qualified for LinkedIn jobs.
