Thermodynamics:Firstly you mentioned AI and it's subset machine learning taking over which shows a lack of understanding of the tech space. Will the AI systems be built and just left that way? No!! The people who design these systems are still software engineers and as it become an industry standard, if creates more future jobs Secondly, almost every developing nation on earth has not adopted 50% tech usage. Nigeria would be around 30% which speaks of the abundant of opportunities. Evolving fields like cloud computing and these AI disruption is just an evolution to the work we do. There's this misconception from people and script kiddies who aren't really developers that think once a software is built, there's no need for maintenance . Tech has a lot of opportunities for growth, and AI is only advancing the means to reach to these opportunities. Forget the trend, get your head down, and grind. An average indian group won't have this flight mode status we're displaying in Nigeria. Don't let the buzz make you regret in future ; 2 Likes 1 Share |

Hannania: This same thread was posted in 2019 albeit by a different poster. It almost discouraged me when I started coding in 2020 but I already made up my mind and just went in. Recently the poster of one of those threads is still saying saturation and next year will make it 4 years he has been having cold feet and shouting saturation. 7 Likes 1 Share |

tensazangetsu20: I am self made victim of this. Started following tech communities around 2017, my 2nd year in the university studying CS, was doing ok, but then I joined the bandwagon, php is dead and going away, python this and that, html is not a programming language and whatnot, long story short, it's 2022 ending and I just recently started learning everything all over again. Just learn, be good, network and there are opportunities for you. My belief. 3 Likes |

Raheeqilmaktoom: And that 2017 getting jobs was easier than now. Andela was even paying people to learn to code then. They would give you a MacBook and 80k a month. Now you need at least 3 years experience to join andela. People should take advantage of opportunities when you hear of them. What's the worst that can happen. Tech knowledge on its own isn't useless even without a job. 5 Likes |

Raheeqilmaktoom: Your own is good. I've been in denial that "programming is too demanding, if I go back I will be sucked in so much I will barely have time for anything." Looked at my Career To-Do for 2022 and the only thing I ran away from was Programming. Starting over and getting out of gear 1 has been a huge challenge because when I start with system.out.println("Hello World!" ) I just think, this shiit is too easy. Then I rush to arrays and linked lists and hook go catch person. I say to myself, later. Add to that the huge change in the tools used. Wrote my programs with nano or notepad and compiled on command line. The closest thing like and IDE I used was BlueJ. Today the IDEs and the language has evolved so much it becomes a huge challenge. I open code in notepad and it's filled with so much code I'm wondering how in the name of all that is holy, did anyone write all of those from their head. But we try again next year. And hopefully the disgust at the disparity between what I earn as an Functional Consultant and what what devs in my field earn, will be enough to force me to drag that "saturation" with them. Let us all swim or sink in the so-called saturation 5 Likes |

tensazangetsu20: I swear down! There are certain things I messed around with (just because "I like tech, I want to see how this stuff works" that today is putting food on the table. In 2014, Raspberry pis had just become mainstream and I managed to order one from the UK. Because I heard you could build a phone system and a digital signage with it. Today that experiment is putting food on the table via the telephony experiment. The digital signage has just started to materialize results with an offer to build and manage a digital signage network for an advertising startup in the US. Stuff that were just "play play" projects 5 Likes |

airsaylongcome: And that's just one example o. Even when I was learning to code my obsession wasn't even work my plan was to actually start my own business but that's hinged on a designer but with what happened this past year In tech I won't honestly mind starting up something part time. One never knows. The knowledge should just be acquired when the opportunity is there. No knowledge is useless. 5 Likes |
Re: Software Development Is Now An Oversaturated Field by Thermodynamics(m): 4:34pm On Dec 29, 2022 |
Hannania: I'm not talking about tech in general, I'm taking about just frontend and backend software development. You could be a frontend or backend developer and have no experience in artificial intelligence, I know these artificial intelligence softwares need maintenance, but that maintenance can only be done by people fully in the field. |

airsaylongcome: Lol, seems like you started with Java, Java isn't an easy language for beginners, try to learn JavaScript or python. |

Any how e b person go manage am. The skill or knowledge of programing is not a waste. That's a reason I choose the guru up part. If I know get a job, I go build scripts, UI components dey sell, or organise bootcamp. Above all I want create my own App hat will solve problems. 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Software Development Is Now An Oversaturated Field by airsaylongcome: 12:30am On Dec 30, 2022 |
Thermodynamics: Lol. I disagree. Anyone can start with literally any language. I started with BASIC then switched to PASCAL. When OOP became a thing, learned C++ and Java. The exact language used is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned |

airsaylongcome: It'll take you more time to understand any Oop language like Java as a complete beginner. At least you need to be welcomed with python or JavaScript. |
Re: Software Development Is Now An Oversaturated Field by airsaylongcome: 10:47am On Dec 30, 2022 |
Thermodynamics: Like I said, I completely disagree. As off 1999, universities in the US were already teaching OOP. Languages before then we're Pascal and C++. And students learned those. So no, you don't have to be "welcomed" with Python. I personal do not like the very lax programming that Python encourages. I believe people should start of learning programming with strongly typed languages and learn the discipline of declaring their variables associated with a variable type before using the variable in their programs 2 Likes |

airsaylongcome: Of course it's possible to learn Java without any prior programming experience, but it's be more difficult for that person compared to someone who already knows python or JS |
Re: Software Development Is Now An Oversaturated Field by Nobody: 11:48am On Dec 30, 2022 |
airsaylongcome: As a long time Java dev, I had a very terrible time starting my career learning Java and I highly discourage it for beginners. Thank God for PHP & Symphony. I almost lost interest in programming totally, everything was so complex with Java. Such a terrible language for starters. |

Personally my experience is different, it's always Recruiters not being able to find good talent. I can show you mails of .e explaining to people I can't take gigs, yet it's hard to refer people because of lack of experience. 2 Likes |
