WHY TOTAL IS ON MY WACTHLIST This same time last year (Jan 2024), TOTAL SP started declining. It encountered a pause in February and March, and then continued its fall in April. In May 2024, there was another pause before the price was strongly rejected in June and ended 2024 in a strong bullish rally. Now, Total's price has started falling again this January. Will history repeat itself? PLAN YOUR TRADES AND TRADE YOUR PLANS ![]()

Yesterday there was aggressive buying on CHAMS which many thought was dumping. I know a lot want to have chams in their portfolio. These aggressive buying will lead the stock out of penny stock and few stocks will be in the hands of minority shareholders. Las las we will all see why these volumes are going on now...... Technically,Japaul is looking for a way to break out.watch this space for some profits not investment advice on Japaul now but follow the money advice. Insurance stocks are set to be neutral until announcements are made on the sector.Kudos to those who ride on till now.Expect some pull back this week. |

There seems to be a rising trend in Nigerian companies, to outdo one another, in how big their end of the year party is, or how much fanfare they are able to throw. Although these events can be fun and interesting, but I also wonder if they throw these events, with their staff in mind. Nothing can be more demoralizing for staff, than to ask for certain benefits, get turned down by management, and then hear that the management is spending more than that amount, in something they consider a total waste of money, only for management to turn around and claim that they are doing the event for them. (This is part of the problem that even civil servants face). I see companies throwing big money parties with budgets of 200 to 250 million Naira, pay Afrobeat artistes 75 to 80 million Naira to perform, yet the said companies are not doing well, when it comes to staff welfare. It seems that these companies value what people see from outside, than those who are putting in the sweat, to generate revenue. I mean these budget for the parties are simply ridiculous, and the worse is that not every staff member is invited! I know for certain that some cadre of staff cannot attend, and the fact that the party is location-based, makes it worse. Imagine being a staff of a company with branches in 13 states, yet the company is throwing a big-money end of the year party for "staffs", and the location is only in Lagos State. This has already cancelled those who does not stay in the environment. They will have to watch the event on TV or social media. So, what is their gain? Some cannot even attend, because of their personal religious beliefs and convictions. Personally, I feel some of these companies should listen to their staff and try some compensation. Heck, it won't be a bad idea if you pay a 13th month salary instead. Pay staff on the 23rd of December then pay again on the 10th of January so the staff can be sure of not having empty pockets in January while they work. Gone are the days when companies share foodstuff and sometimes live animals to staff in appreciation of their hard work all year round or have an award night. Now, it is about who can call the biggest artiste and pull off the biggest show which is quite unfortunate. And to some that think since the staff are already paid salaries, the companies owes them nothing more, part of the job of management is to keep the morale of staff high so they can be more dedicated and abandonment kills this. It makes the staff feel worthless and unappreciated. |

essentialone1:How many Nigerian companies truly cares about the welfare of their staff? The working condition in NAIJA companies is story for another day? Although I learnt it has changed especially within the banking/financial sector where I worked while in Nigeria |

essentialone1:Post trimmed to save space. This is a very valid thought! It is similar to public office holders buying new bulletproof cars and new residences when sworn into offices. A lot of wastages that could touch lives are being wasted just for "pepper dem" and "showoff" purposes. Kudos to the individuals who make it an obligation to touch lives with their tokens. Many in diaspora just offset projects at home because they want to appreciate the skills and hardwork of the suffering lots, and not because the multimillion Naira projects particularly qualify as the best use of their money. We have a long way to go as a society that seeks to alleviate poverty. |

Meristem projects a target price of N82 for Transcorp and N30 for UCAP. Good to see that! With the many educated projections by respected fellows here, 2025 might not be a year to be too fearful or too greedy. But it might be the beginning of the end of status quo ~10-15% dividend yield from most companies. In agreement with @Ositadima's recent argument about new prices reflecting revaluation of companies rather than a bull, capital appreciation will obviously be multiples of dividends this year. Hopefully the Naira stays strong for a long time - the worst enemy of portfolio value ![]() |
