They are not new shares but existing shares of the company.

Are they going to crash price so that they can be able to buy back the shares? It doesn't seem practicable at all.

How are you sure Wale hasn't bought them all yet?

Oando may pay cash equivalent to share to disturbe 😁
Cash equivalent at what value per share?
And what would be the parameters, or indices to determine the value?

Like I stated earlier, I am dropping fact without sentiments. (I am heavy in OandO so don't see my take as trying to put down OJT or OandO).

This is LSE announcement of Serinus Energy (SENX) in January 2024.

https://www.londonstockexchange.com/news-article/SENX/participation-in-onshore-angola-licence-round/16299502

Note the original dates wink
Is there any publication from Serinus Energy contesting or raising any issues with this award?
Why don't we wait and hear from Serinus Energy? For all we know, there might be some distinctions between what Serinus won and what Oando has got now. Or it may be fake news all together!

May God truly help Wale.
Why is this a better idea than the Share distribution, why are they walking back on it
The problem may be from some ignorant shareholders who made the request at the last Oando AGM. Whether they were influenced by Wale or not, I cannot say.
But I don't think Oando would go for cash distribution. Because that option would imply $325m at N1500 (minimum), to be spread over 4.3billion shares, which would place a value of at least N110 on each share (if I am not mistaken)
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Raider76: 9:30am On Jan 20, 2025
Add the amount of wrangling, distraction and cost that the cash option will entail. But if they can pay it will give them even more control of the company.

Unless the cash is coming from the original debtors, otherwise Oando would find itself in another big controversy if it should pay.
And why should the debtors be paying cash right now, after they had agreed and signed an MOU to relinquish the shares to the company?
Oando paying cash would mean some potential insider dealings going on and another round of corporate governance disputes which may involve the SEC/NGX again.

Oando going ahead to cancel the entire shares that was pledge for the loan would have been a more straightforward solution rather than all the needless controversy that have been generated.

Obtaining shareholders approval at an AGM or EGM and thereafter obtaining SEC approval before going ahead to actually cancel the shares. This will have a more positive impact on the shareholders as the share price will firm up and the financial ratios will also improve.

Anyway, let's enjoy the show by the evil genius.

Canceling the shares the way you suggested would be double jeopardy for shareholders.
It would mean that the debtors would have nothing to lose (after failing to pay their debts and should go scot-free), while other shareholders would have nothing to compensate them, after not receiving any dividends as a results of the huge debt write-offs which eroded potential profits of the company in prior years.
Good corporate governances requires that those who sacrificed for the company are now compensated.

I think that website is usually quite accurate. They got the SPDC Aradel timing spot on.
This just points to the poor corporate governance of Oando. Did they also publish insider dealings when Wale and other Execs were buying it during all the court drama?

I don't think share cancelation works very well in the Nigerian mentality because people can't see clear and immediate benefits to their pockets.
