Even at that Zanfara still had excess shares which the state government bought and warehoused, to be sold later to their citizens

Vitafoam, Berger paint, CAP plc, Neimeth and other numerous companies were foreign owned now owned by Nigerians through Management Buy Out, yet the former owners are technical partners.
Those were the ones that did not leave the country when Murtala/Obasanjo did the compulsory indigenization.
Even with time, some of them sold their majority or controlling interests to Nigerians.
May & Baker is another example.
Having a core investor is not a bad thing; it is how the company is managed that matters.

It all depends on the fx gain component of their result. Which im yet to take a look at
On face value from an excel analysis someone sent me for final dividend, they believe
GT can pay N6, Zenith N4, UBA N2.50 and Access N2.05
Has GTCo ever paid a higher dividend than Zenith? Even last year that they made higher income

First bank, UBA, Afrbank, Union bank did not have a core investor when they were privatized by Babangida through TCPC.

Concept of core investor was introduced by BPE whose chairman was Atiku and El Rufai was the Director General.

The core investors were not the best qualified and did offer the best price for the shares.

Na paddy paddy arrangee thing

It also happened with the unbundling and privatisation of PHCN by Jonathan

I don't think so.

Either pay the same or Zenith will pay a higher dividend

Nigeria Stock Exchange was established in the early 60s all the listed company were foreign owned at least 99% of the shares were owned by foreigners.

My mentor late Akintunde Asalu in his book "my life of stock" said he bought his first stock in 1963 because he wanted to prove his Economics teacher at Kings College wrong. The teacher said Nigerians will continue to be poor unless they own shares in the big businesses making money in Nigeria.

Asalu was able to retire in 1972 at the age of 37, by the time he died in 2007 his stock portfolio was about N500 million, not bad for someone who never held a political appointment nor was a successful business man.

The first set of Nigerians to buy shares were corporate executives, Asalu worked with Unilever and RT Briscoe

When Nigeria Brewery, Nestle, Guinness etc had public offers, Nigerians didn't show interest except for the informed few.

In 1976, Obasanjo introduced the indigenization policy which made it compulsory for Nigerian citizens or Nigerian government to own between 40% to 60% of the shares of listed companies.

That was how Nigerians, state government and FGN owned shares in all the companies on the stock exchange from Manufacturers to banks, petroleum marketing.

Unfortunately it was Nigerians from a certain part of the country that were able to harness this opportunity.

What El Rufai did in 2003 was to democratise ownership of the privatized businesses by making sure the shares were bought by all Nigerians
Thanks for the details. Meaning Elrufai introduced federal character to investment.

Not really 'enlightenment'.

Many have decided to abstain from any form of security after getting their fingers burnt in 08/09 and we cannot really blame them... wink
I my own opinion, a person truly enlightened on investment would not run away from it just because of a temporary bad experience. Come to think of it; is there really any economic endeavour in life that gives profits all the time without losses at some point at all? Nearly all of us oldies here got burnt in 2008 but we didn't run away because we had a truly enlightened objective of coming to the market which was to create sustainable wealth. Most of those who rushed in and rushed out between 2008 and 2009 came with the mindset that stock investment was a kind of lottery but got disappointed when the events of 2008 proved them wrong.

Beautiful result N57 EPS!
With this, they can pay out almost N20 final dividend per share. I think the dividend policy was 20% of operating cash flow or 50% of PAT, whichever is lower from the US$ denominated statement.

Shows that ACCESS is going to the moon to acquire the bank of the moon

The Access Bank I sold "too early" at N27.80 is now available to me at N26.65
You're here to scalp for 4% based on the numbers you provided(probably less after fees), others are here for 20%, while others myself included are here for 2, 3, 4, 5 baggers. I am up 50%+ on Access and I believe we are still in the first innings. The only reason I will sell will be to consolidate into fewer holdings.

What is that saying? Every Mallam to his kettle?

yes, I recall they have a dividend payout policy.

PAT n EPS almost 400% Y-o-Y
Impressive!

Glad to have picked some at 504 yesterday, although I did not buy all I wanted because I was expecting a weak performance based on their Q3.

What my attention shifts to now is the SPDC acquisition. How is it being funded?

The management is top-notch.

Gone through it. They didn’t say much about the acquisition though ? Besides ministerial consent

Aradel made 53% of 2023 PAT in Q4 (N21.67B Q4 PAT against N40.84B annual PAT). Maybe they can replicate that in their FY'24 report.
Looks like Aradel makes largest chunck of their revenue from Q4.
