The way "life" has treated me has been nothing but unfair ![]() Yes I didn't get a tertiary education, but I thought I had all it takes to be successful in Nigeria even with minimal support. I thought I was smart enough but I soon realized that I can't secure any reasonable job unless I have a proper degree, and because of my physical challenges, I can't take up stressful jobs like factory jobs, security personnel jobs, filling station attendant, etc ![]() My only escape route was through tech so I thought. I tried to pack in as much tech skills as possible, like: laptop repair and maintenance, graphics designing, website design, content creation/writing skills.. heck! I even taught ICT in a computer school and also in a secondary school. Some of those skills I paid to learn, while others I self-taught (still learning more and more) but I cant deny that It's been challenging and seems to me that I am not trying hard enough when I don't have gigs regularly coming my way even with all my skills.lol ![]() Let's face it, you can't really succeed in tech without strong support. I mean you really need money to explore tech if you really want to be successful in tech ![]() Nobody tells you about all the packaging You need light, money for advertisement/sponsored posts and enough data to be active in all social media spaces to solicit gigs. The hours you will put into this is no small feat. Then I am scratching the surface when you compare with forex and crypto traders.lol I am just here to let you know that tech is kind of difficult right now and especially when you don't have strong backing you might end up being frustrated. I had to close my computer school in Ajegunle and return back to the East because of some of these challenges. Though, not only those tech related issues. Other issues like my mum's health and because no one to be with her except my dad. So here I am in the East "lazy-ing about" lol according to my dad. And he can send me message like a small pikin eh just because he thinks I am not doing anything at home. Which I gladly run for him though, because he feeds me lol. I can't take that for granted. But he doesn't know that he is talking to a CEO lol ![]() I have asked myself what job I can do now but when I remember that I need to build my tech brand Nexora I just shrug it off and continue in my grind. ![]() What do you think guys. ![]() |

Keep pushing life is never a bed of roses for the poor. Some of us wake up too late and it affects us at age 35 upwards. |

Goodlyhrt:Bro your dad and my dad are the same. Our story looks similar tho I made some cool cash and decided to buy laptop and move to lagos to connect and pursue my tech dreams. I even created my company and got ICC licensce to operate. But thr truth hit me harder than dangote truck!! Tech in Nigeria is for the RICH!!!!!! 1 Software for 3d design can cost $399 just 1 software ooo. And you might need like 3 softwares. Now calculate how much Then you have internet wahala I remember spending 17k on data on night just to download an AI model package. It was 30+ gig and anytime i download it will reach 60% and MTN will say my data is finish. The download once network misbehave it will stop and start afresh from 1%. I just weak Then the transportation from mainland to lekki was another huge challange. The dream company i wanted to work was in lekki and i stay in mainland . I had to spend 7k going and 6k coming back with taxi. It was crazy Then it dawned on me that to achieve anything TECH in Nigeria 1. You need serious funds!!!! 2. You need electricity 24/7 3. Solid uniterupted internet service As for your dad. He is from the 70's They will never understand TECH If you like explain from now till tomorrow. He will see you as wasting your time. His generation think to be succesful you have to work hard and do manual skills. These old generation dont understand that things have changed. So no matter what you do Don't let your dad discourage you. They are very naive to the recent advancement in AI and Tech. My dad was exactly like your dad Until he started seeing how much i made from tech. That was how he got humbled ![]() The worst thing you can do is to listen to advice of old generation. Things have changed but they are still stuck with the mentality of the 80's. Sometimes he will show me AI videos and i tell him IT IS NOT REAL Then he begins to argue with me This is someone that dont know how to turn on a computer ![]() So ignore your dad rant about wasting your time. He is just too old school. |

Zooboy:The obvious answer="No Funds" In 2010, My dad who was my only sponsor fell ill to diabetes when I needed him the most. That time I was almost done with my Secondary School education then it dawned on me that I wouldn't continue my education and it broke my heart into pieces It even affected my performances in school and ultimately in my WAEC results because I saw how my mum (God bless her for me) struggled with her equsi business then while all the entire burden in the family rested on her to make sure that I completed my secondary education and seat for WAEC. It broke my heart then and I fell into depression It affected my WAEC badly My bad performance in WAEC then sealed the deal for me then in my young mind because where is the money to enrol for another Exam. Even if I enroll for jamb, and eventually get admitted who would sponsor me? So I reasoned within myself. For real my dad's health issue took a massive hit on me then and as the first son and I really needed to help my mum. That's how I ditched all thoughts of furthering my education into the university because of course "No sponsor" |

Goodlyhrt:I hope when you suffer to reach the top, you won't waste your money on useless genders that can't offer you anything in life.... Sometimes there is a reason life gets tough for some so when you make it, you will know how to properly handle money and don't waste it on women.... BACHELOR FOR LIFE |

Zooboy:Wonderful to me. I am in awe! Do I switch completely to programming or what I know a little bit of programming though. HTML and co.. and I am seriously learning JavaScript I even know a little bit of Python. Well who knows I might fully swerve to it ?Maybe someone to mentor me because mehn it's not easy learning programming and being 100% focused when you don't know the next steps after your training lol. |

If you think that you have acquired enough tech skills, then, set up a portfolio online. The portfolio should contain all your past projects and/or jobs you did for clients. Create a LinkedIn profile and set it up to look professional. Ensure that you list all your tech skills, jobs done or projects completed. Then, add a link to your portfolio. Also set alerts for the kind of jobs you desire to receive (Remote, On site or hybrid). Tech job opportunities drop every minute on LinkedIn. You can also create a profile on Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, etc. |

Zooboy:There are so many unprofessional jobs here e.g working at a restaurant ..this money is enough to feed and pay rents and still enjoy small..so while you are doing it. , you can save money and use it to go for professional training which includes IT , nursing etc...so that you can later start working as a professional and earn fat salaries.. but even doing odd jobs here can feed you and pay your bills comfortably.. many Nigerians here do odd jobs. , some are cleaners here and when they get to Nigeria they become a multi millionaire because of the nigeria /pounds exchange rate.. |

Start creating ideas to solve common problems the common man deliberately ignore. What are the things people buy that are inaccessible or far? Create an app to connect consumers to products and arrange with a dispatch rider. |
