zendi:Lol you're really funny and sound like one of the tithe collectors or one of their beneficiaries. Tithing is an Old Testament doctrine and has nothing to do with Christianity. Any Nigerian collecting tithe is utterly unqualified to do so in the first place because he or she is not a Levite, who are the qualified tribe to collect it because they had no portion in the promised land. Levites were to feed from the grains and animals brought to the temple as tithes. Also, tithe was meant to be paid on farm produce only, not on other forms of income or money. The Bible stipulates that you consume your tithes in the temple, so show me how Nigerian tithe payers consume theirs. Are people who cannot pay tuition for their children to attend a university they co-sponsored eating their tithes? Let's not even go there, Christians are not bound by the law meant for the Jews, not gentiles like you and I. The Nigerian "Agbalowomeri" Tithe Collectors know the truth but must still milk the poor to sustain their flamboyant lifestyle. None of them even has the power of the prophets. This is not a topic you want to discuss--we should not derail this thread. |

USA2019:The issue is not the seed of tithe but the soil of the church.. God's work requires money.. you can't claim you love God and not honour him with your substance. In the new testament Christ didn't oppose tithe but said we ought not neglect weightier issues of mercy etc Matthew 23 v 23 [23] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. The tithe you consume is different from the one you offer to God. The former is for your personal benefit and pleasure. The measure of giving in the new testament with all due respect is greater than the old testament. Members of the early church gave massively even selling houses land etc (Book of Acts of the Apostles). Like I said, the issue is, are you giving in a genuine church applying the money for God's house, work and also has an outreach for the less privileged? |

USA2019:You must be extremely materialistic to think I cannot defend a church practice except I'm a beneficiary in some way. And the way you repeat these your "Nigerian Tithe Collectors", are they absent in other parts of the Christian world ? Anyway, the Levites and Priests of old are the Reverends, Pastors and Church workers of today and are perfectly qualified to receive tithes . What you need is a spiritual understanding of Scripture, and not to read it like an ordinary story book. |

USA2019:The giving in church of any type is a personal thing. No one is forced to do it.IF you don't buy it,it is good and fine. And if another has faith in it and does it.That should not be your business. As an adult ,what you do with your money should not be anyone concern.I personal believe in Contributing to the growth of church whr I join other brethren to worship God in materials and finance Some say church is a scam while I say traditional/idol worship is the biggest fraud....different opinion Therefore do what your faith accepts and leave others to thr own.You are not in any position to judge if it is wrong or right. All men to his faith. |

Of course, I'm a material scientist. Lol Most of the people who do these days benefit from the system or are ignorant. Take it or leave it. I emphasize Nigeria because it's my home country and the most important to me, also because most of the shady practices you have in Nigeria is not found in other parts of the world--China won't allow you infest their peoples' brain with illogical religion, Rwanda here has a well-regulated church system where you can't be a pastor without first having a master's degree., the list is endless.Reverends and Pastors are not Levites--They can only be by being born into the tribe--There is no way to twist that. There is no need to spiritualize non-spiritual things--the early church did not practise tithing, which was only introduced and enforced in the 6th-8th century (civil law by Charlemagne, the Council of Trent, the Second Council of Macon). However, I never asked anyone not to pay tithe—after all, it's their money. My statement was that tithe collectors are also "agbalowomeris" whether the "meris" pay willingly or not. However in a saner clime, fewer people will pay because they know better. zendi: |

Show me where I asked you or anyone else not to pay. My statement is unambiguous, but I'm not surprised at your response--tithe payers are mostly emotional, not rational beings. My statement is that tithe collectors are "takers from the poor", whether the poor pay willingly or otherwise is another ball game entirely. However, if they are enlightened and empowered, most won't pay. Streetinvestor2: |

Lol I'm more spiritual and know God more than you. I do not blame you, it's the brainwashing that's still affecting you. God that is a spirit does not need food or a house--he doesn't live in houses made by human hands. You're only supporting your pastor's real estate business by paying to his church, which his children will inherit. Wake up dude, it's already happening before your very eyes--Jimmy Odukoya is a perfect case study. zendi: |
