Nigerians skip air travel as high costs ground flights

Nigeria’s domestic air travel declined in 2024, driven by aircraft shortages and soaring ticket prices that placed air travel out of reach for many passengers.

Data from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) shows a 10 percent drop in passenger traffic, with numbers falling from 12.05 million in 2023 to 11.55 million in 2024.

Revenue from the 11.55million passengers in 2024 is way more than the 12.05million in 2023. grin

10k and 5k notes on the way

CBN don finally spoil naira
Actually, it makes sense. Denomination and value are two different things—the value of the naira is already severely weakened. Without electronic transfers, people would be packing naira bills in cartons just for basic purchases. Imagine paying rent in cash or buying everyday items like phones, laptops, and household appliances with ₦500 notes.

Even just ₦30,000 can't fit in my wallet without obviously bulging out.

Shouldn't we compare stocks to only their peers in the same industry? Geregu is probably ok if you compare it to Transcorp Power.

Geregu and gtbank in the same dividend bracket
Apr and transcorp hotel the same range.
Then check share price. Price manipulation is real in this market to be in billionaire club

You are very correct. Geregu and transpower are even relatively at the same price at the moment if you consider their OS.
Geregu has 2.5billion OS
Transpower has 7.5billion OS

If you do the maths you will realise that at the same OS they will likely have simily share price.

@Aj8 or any of the gurus,
Between OKOMU and DANGCEM which can you recommend at current price based on the latest results pls.

**Updated**
Sorted!
@yMcy56
You probably would have guessed that that at their current prices, I would not jump into either. Why? Simply because they are way above the metrics I use for my Common Sense Entry Strategy. For this strategy, my entry is gauged either on estimated EPS, where I buy into at a price way below (EPS x 4), or buy at a price way below 10x estimated dividends. I use whichever is higher of the two metrics. I don’t however doubt their potential to appreciate bearing in mind their valuation based on P/E. The cost of raw rubber is forecast to continue its climb so would expect Okomu to do well into 2025 and probably pay higher dividends if not at least the same total of N36. So my entry for Okomu would be N360 or lower which I doubt if they would ever drop to that …hence my not jumping in but would if it does. Dangote in the same vein N300 is based on dividends. Can safely jump in if it ever drops below that price which again I doubt it would.
So far, the strategy has kept my funds safe and I pray it continues that way.

The aim remains to get into a front row seat on any stock before it starts to climb. Not when the train has departed the station. However should the train return to the station Jump in.

The gurus on this platform will be able to do justice to this. I don’t consider myself one.

These are purely my thoughts. Please pick whatever seems flesh and throw away the bone.

Thank you for the tremendous good you are doing on this platform. You have my respect.

the market is live and bubbling! 🟢

From the snapshot:

LASACO is shining bright with a +7% gain 🌟

But the reds are circling ... MBENEFIT down -3.74%, UNIVINSURE -3.51%, and ACCESSCORP -1.99%.

Let’s see how the rest of the session unfolds.

Just wanted to mention that now that the slowpoke in chief have slammed crazy tariffs all over the place (moronic decision), we should be very meticulous about how we plan our trades in the coming months

Especially those exposed to the US markets
Let's see what extent it will have on the Nigerian markets

Thank you sir.

I want to understand the bolded (that you use which one is higher of the 2 metrics)

Lets use zenith for example

EPS is N32 (32 X 4 = N96)
Div is N5 (N5 X 10 = N50)

Since is N96 is higher, does it mean any price below N96 is what you consider?

megawealth01:

Access have purportedly completed their capital raise and have met the CBN requirement. Their current OS should be about 53billion.
UBA is yet to complete the process and may issue more shares but they currently have about 45 billion OS.
So that of UBA is currently inconclusive making it difficult to compare both

remove the one time special gain that gave zenith that eps and you will get better results. The forex gain.Using the pe of 5 is good gauge for me now for banks..I could use 10 for some other businesses

Ok, a good systematic and simple entry strategy. But what about the exit strategy? How do you know when it's time to bail?
