Mpeace:I just don’t understand the Access Bank strategy. Their goal right from time has always been all about expansion. They are all over Africa but are quite small in most of these countries. I think they had to sell their operations in London and Drcongo in order to buy this Bank (a highly indebted Bank). The Kenyan central bank is so relieved. |

GeneralDae:I share your concerns. -But these liabilities are obvious to the expert acquirers and professionals(Access bank). -Access bank has been in Kenya long before now. They should know the terrain better. Edited:Access is acquiring NBK not KCB.. NBK isn't the largest by asset but amongst the medium tier. -NBK has over 130 branches (based on sort code published below) https://printlion.co.ke/full-list-of-all-nbk-bank-branch-codes-in-kenya/?srsltid=AfmBOoq71uiWGKMYN5ATNfP0SMvYcMKD7k-hljdHojPllSLs0bWQ6lwz. Top 15 in Kenya by asset(#BusinessInsider), Merger with Access might take it to Top 10 by asset. Despite its debts, I assume it would also be among a systemic, geographic or strategic important bank for the country(like our FUGAZ). I believe their Central Bank will always wade in to save it if it ever comes to that just as our CBN is doing for Unity bank in Nigeria Kenya is the largest economy in East Africa (just like Nigeria in West Africa) and one of the fastest growing in Africa. There might be a catch(or catches ) we are not seeing beyond the debt.Investment in access bank dey like a 3year savings bond ![]() Na 2027 ending/2028 ee go mature. ![]() |

I would be careful reading too much into a general-news article about a technical financial transaction. Nothing wrong with buying a bank with bad debt. "Bad debt" just means non-performing loans (NPLs), which every bank has to some degree. So the devil is in the details; the unknowns are whether Access understands the loans profile it is buying and at what price it bought the book. Access has one of the best strategies of the Nigerian banks: to transcend Nigeria's risk rating and reputational overhang by acquiring (sometimes distressed) assets in high-growth markets overseas. They're executing it brilliantly--at least as much we can see from the outside. We'll see the full results in a few years. Stay away if you want short-term gains. Mpeace: |

If they fold hands and allow Oando to drop to 30 or below, then there must be an agenda to it. Very likely delisting is back on the table. The lower the market price, the easier to buy out the outsiders. |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Streetinvestor2: 9:21pm On Apr 14, 2025 |
Agbalowomeri:What made the price move is the same thing that made such bank after all the risk assessment give such loan to buy the last asset. If you could show insider buying direct or indirect I would have considered it. Then again the name associated to the president is a business goodwill. The business is not dead like many businesses that exist only on papers still trading here. We see oando trade here daily,it is championed by retailer and mostly short time guys....simple |
