Thanks for this post, I'm new here and it has really helped and encouraged me greatly.
I know this post is old, I hope u or anyone else that can assist would respond.
Plz aside payoneer, which other paying app I can use to receive payment ?
I'm yet to set up my profile on Upwork cos I'm still trying to equip myself more about email copy writing since its the niche I've decided to go into.
Now I needed to be sure a reliable payment account is up and ready before uploading profile and engaging in any transaction, Na so I say make i open Payoneer.
Omoh the app just dey show me shege wey I no understand.
I got to the receiving accounts part, na there wahala hook... I couldn't obtain further info on how to get the details, I no fit go front I no fit go back.

Hello Yormie, thanks for the kind words. I am glad you find the thread helpful. Please register on Geegpay. 2) Create a virtual dollar account. 3) Go back to Upwork and add the dollar account. You can't move the dollar out of the virtual account. You can only convert to Naira and move to your Naira account.

I recently stumbled upon this thread and I read through and also the threads you quoted too...I have decided to do for virtual administrative assistant and I saw it somewhere that, that is what you started with aside the food blogging stuff....

So I have started my research about how the get started and I have put together the following steps according to youtube:
1) Learning how to type fast (currently learning that on youtube even though nepa dey disappoint me)
2) Learning the basics of microsoft, how to create basic presentation using powerpoint, how to make a link to the powerpoint presentation, etc
3) learn excel
4) Email etiquette
5) How to book travels......and so on

Please I would like to know if I am on the right path and please help me by adding few things you think I should learn to, like a guide or steps e.g the courses I can take or videos I should watch on youtube....I would so much appreciate that .... please just put the reply out here so others can learn too ..

Good job on all you're working on. I'm not a VA expert, but as someone who has had to learn many things over the years, I'd say it's better to reduce your learning to one or two topics at a time. At most, three. Five seems quite a mouthful.

But yeah, all these skills you highlighted would help you on your journey to becoming a virtual assistant. You can also learn to be more organized and use productivity/organizational tools like Notion and Asana/Trello.

I don't know any free ones at the moment. The person I know who posts free Udemy courses is @omoalhajaabiola on X (formerly Twitter). He also has a large community on Telegram where they discuss this stuff.

If you're not big on getting certificates, you can check out Simplilearn on YouTube. They offer free in-depth tutorials on many courses. I know they have the Excel course.

I really want to do remote jobs. I have tried Upwork and didn't get jobs. My field is data entry. Can anyone guide me into getting a remote job that I can do with my phone. I use an Android phone. Even if the pay is small, at least , I can start somewhere.

People have lied and claim to get away with it. I didn't do it and I don't advise anyone to. The cycle of lying is a long one. Truly if you don't understand it, you will get frustrated like I did. That was why I prepared a guide, but I deleted it when my students were acting up.

Lol. In my own case I had YouTube and a good friend who put me through. Then I figured out the rest. Fortunately I got a full time job before exhausting all my connects.

Sadly most newbies now are going to find upwork more frustrating cos they've stopped their 120 free connect welcome.

Meaning upon completing your registration, you'd have to buy connects in order to submit proposals. How would you explain to a broke unemployed person to cough out $45 (about 72k) to buy connects? He or she would loose interest instantly.

There is no remote job that doesn't need some form of experience in 2026 because the market is heavily saturated market. Except you want to continue whatever you are "currently working" remotely.
