Omo. Remember when I lost my mum. Innocent me thought we were having a get together.

After weeks without his father, he’ll begin asking questions, assuming dad just stepped out. Even if they explain that he’s gone forever, he likely won’t truly understand death until he’s much older.

I know this confusion too well. When I was a child, my family hid a loss from us. Relatives flooded our house, but we were kept in our rooms, told it was just a cousin’s birthday party. Even when we were sent to my uncle’s and I saw the somber faces of grieving guests, the truth never clicked. It was worse because the secrecy left me with questions instead of comfort.

I pray he holds onto his memories of his dad until adulthood.
