NGX Market Capitalization Comparison Date Market Cap (NGN) Exchange Rate (₦/$) Market Cap (USD) May 2023 ₦28 trillion 750/$ (approx.) $37.3 billion May 2025 ₦70 trillion 1500/$ $43.75 billion 🧮 Analysis in Real Dollar Terms While nominal market cap in naira more than doubled (28T → 70T), In real dollar terms, the increase is more modest: $37.3B → $43.75B = ~17.3% increase over 2 years This shows that: The market is indeed growing, but not as explosively when adjusted for naira depreciation. Currency devaluation significantly dampens the effect of local nominal gains when viewed in global terms. ✅ Takeaway The NGX is growing, but the naira’s depreciation masks some of the real gains. Investors — especially foreign ones — will likely focus on the USD growth, not just the local figures. GeneralDae: |

GeneralDae:I actually think the taxes to be raised should be the ones that will benefit the federal government than the states and LG. As at today the sharing formula for VAT doesn't favor the fg. Most states are actually doing better now in terms of fiscal management than the fg as a result of increase revenue from VAT and they have better revenue to debt ratio than the government at the center. The current revenue to debt ratio for the fg is not sustainable and something needs to be done about it ASAP. |

Agbalowomeri:Lol. Maybe they interpreted it upside down..... Besides, the volumes that panic sold was not much, a paltry 4.8M units all thru...,.for both buy and sell self! So total sold was just 2.4M Where person for fear be say, if those hefty people came dumping.......but heavy shareholders didn't sell... In fact throughout the market session today, bids were more than offers with retailers sighted selling. Wale made sure no insider saw the result prior to release from the look of things, just like Street said. |

Streetinvestor2:When you have any business deal to do with anything bearing Tinubu as name na so you go turn prayer warrior. Just look at how Elumelu operates in openness and compare. TOE knows he is bullish on UBA and he informed small holders before taking more positions, that is inclusiveness devoid of wickedness but see the kind of family ruling you people and how they behave, everything about them is opaque and what baffles me most is that they have supporters all over who cheer them on including in the community of investors who should know more. |
