Nigeria can target Zero tariffs with America: But………….

The past few days got me an honest conversation with Mark Meadows (President Trump’s close ally and Ex Chief of Staff) amongst a good number of smart, African-loving congressmen and government executives.

You see, America has over 100 million “functional unemployed” people and Trump’s administration is desirous of getting them to work … well, somehow.

To do so, their industries from tech to agriculture must hit production but there’s an impediment… the Nixon’s 1970’s EPA.

What’s the catch for Nigeria you may ask?

America is in need of supplies to operate its factories … better still, establish production centres in countries with cheaper labor. Can Nigeria take advantage of this market opportunity?

Away from Oil & Gas; Nigeria has abundant reserves of various minerals needed for the world’s 4th Industrial Revolution.

You read that well.

Sustaining the world’s cyber physical systems requires a constant supply of our God-given earthen resources. Monazite, columbite-tantalite (coltan), bastnasite and xenotime are some of the abundant rare earth minerals found in Kogi, Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, Borno, Niger, Katsina, Bauchi, Cross River, Kaduna, Kebbi, Plateau states … yes Plateau state… I always nursed a sinister thought towards the several ill-fated community killings in the guise of religion. ITS ALWAYS BEEN RESOURCE CONTROL!!!

Now agriculture, our fertile lands suffer no hurricanes, no winter frostbites, no wildfires, no earthquakes. Nigeria can position herself as a major organic products supplier to America . Example Neutrogena, an American skincare and cosmetics company can sign a trade pact with Nigeria’s Shea butter cooperatives just like France’s L'Occitane deals solely with Burkina Faso’s Shea butter community and Body Shop’s with Ghana.

Let’s talk about Information Technology. Harnessing the redundant large labour force, Nigeria can establish smart hubs and take most of the call centre jobs from India. No hating but an average Nigerian speaks in clearer accent than an average Indian.

Developing these 3 sectors (amongst the lot)can position Nigeria as a formidable trade partner with America while creating business opportunities for our youths, jobs in abundance, generating good revenue for ourselves and country while overall eradicating poverty.

What needs to be done?

1. African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) : Nigerian government needs to advocate for the renewal and expansion of the AGOA beyond 2025.
2. Deepen trade dialogues with America wedging the 2000 U.S Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA)
3. Just like my Gold Reserve Bill (underway); Nigeria needs to implement laws and policies to ensure proper regulations for the extractive industries - environmental protection, social impact, supply chain security and even manufacturing of some commodities before export. This will stop illegal mining and environmental degradation. The goal must be simple: Nigerians must enjoy wealth and prosperity from their God given natural minerals.
4. Ambassadors to America (and other countries) must be business oriented individuals who are smart and strategic enough to harness foreign investment opportunities for Nigeria. American business owners want to invest in Nigeria but need efficient and honest networking events where mutually beneficial partnerships can be built. Trust me, many American farmers are willing to enter joint venture agreements with Nigerian farmers to grow produce needed to support their food industries.
5. Lastly (not about so) is POLITICAL WILL and TRUST!!! No one will bet their hard earned money or risk losing investments in politically unstable and dishonest sociopolitical environments.

I’ll end this here.

However, the last few days I spent interfacing with the good ol’ Americans, I’ll say; the world is Nigeria’s oyster, let’s invest in human capital and honestly strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem then watch the world dance to us.

2 Companies most recently suspended from the Stock Market, for failure to publish their Financial Statements are:

1. Thomas Wyatt Plc
2. Golden Guinea Breweries Plc

Which company will be the next to be suspended?
This statement is Targeting Cileasing.
Know it that the company has international presence and with diverse shareholders both local and international. It is a holding company and also a finance company regulated by CBN.They always do a late filing of result for audited.check previous dates for audited results
They already told us they are optimistic to release 2025 Q1 result but can't release without doing the 2024 audited first.

You will see it before or on the 28th.

Likewise Royalex an insurance and also a finance company with holding structure has this same pattern of filing audited result

Kindly know this and know peace

You can create jobs but do the people have the skills to work in those environments. Another question to ask ourselves is, are they willing to take up such opportunities when they present themselves irrespectiveof the remuneration?

Before we go down the route of mineral resources, I still believe there are more than enough jobs within the agricultural value chain for our teeming population. Agriculture can be our major area of comparative advantage for our own people but the skills, equipment and willingness to get involved needs to be optimised.

Once value can be added to our production for both local consumption and export, we can leverage that to expand other areas of the development indices of the country.
