The presidency has stated that the Muslim-Muslim ticket through which President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima came into power in 2023 is no longer an issue.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said this on Thursday, added that fears about Islamisation had been dispelled.

According to Onanuga, most of the individuals being brought forward as Tinubu’s running mate in 2027 are Muslims.

“Christians are living their lives. The president even attended the Pope’s inauguration in Rome. There’s nothing to worry about.

“Many of the names being speculated as potential running mates are Muslims. So again, this isn’t an issue,” he said.

Onanuga also disclosed that President Tinubu will choose his running mate after formally accepting the party’s nomination during its convention in 2026.

“Once INEC releases the timetable, the party convention will hold, and if the president is nominated again, he will choose his running mate,” Onanuga shared.

Can the Muslim accept a Christian-Christian ticket in Nigeria?. It's now a norm for a multi religion country like Nigeria to have a one religion ticket.

Mr Bayo Onanuga's comments are laughable, to say the least. He is trying to downplay the concerns about another Muslim-Muslim ticket by saying "Christians are living their lives" and mentioning Tinubu's attendance at the Pope's inauguration. Like that's supposed to magically make everyone forget about the issue.

The fact remains that many Nigerians, including Christians and others, were concerned about the implications of a Muslim-Muslim ticket on the country's religious balance and representation. Any attempt to brush off these concerns doesn't address the underlying issues.

Moreover, the fact that many of the names being speculated as potential running mates are Muslims doesn't necessarily mean it's not an issue. It's like he is trying to say, "Hey we're doing it again, and you can't do anything about it." That's not how politics works, especially in a diverse country like Nigeria.

Its called power consolidation.
Tinubu wants to reward another camp, that has most probably promised him loyalty
He has given shettima's camp 1 term, he will remain loyal regardless
Tinubu is trying to get more camps on board...he is already planning for 2031
Maybe he already has his candidate for 2031 and its not shettima, the earlier he gets rid of shettima the better

When Gov Zulum, Ali Ndume and co from Borno were attacking the FG from right left and Center, what did Shettima say? He kept mute. He even oversaw a FEC meeting that recommended the withdrawal of Tinubu’s tax reform bills. If you were president, would you like to continue with such a vice?

I'm of the opinion that PBAT should retain VP Shettima in 2027 to avoid starting from scratch again.. Mr. Onanuga, advice your boss not to play into the hands of Northerners surrounding him (including the ones within APC). If peradventure he drops his current VP, the North will gang up against him to support Atiku, if Atiku can secure votes in SE and parts of SS, then he has high chance of winning in 2027.
Don't allow Mr. President make that mistake.

The environment in the North right now is not so favorable to Mr. President.. I just left Kaduna and the perception there is not encouraging.
