NettyNelly:
We use 18% - 25% cost of capital to judge (discount) most Nigerian businesses, but not upto 20 of the listed companies earn above 25% Return on Invested Capital. A quick Bloomberg screener will show you some names which NAHCO is one of them. A bussiness can only generate excess Return if its Return on Capital is higher than its Costs of capital. Or it has a high growth rate to compensate for it, when the Return on Capital evens out its cost of capital.

If a bussiness is able to generate excess Return above its cost of capital and still manages to grow revenue at a rate higher than inflation, that's a license to print money.

The next question to ask is "Is high ROIC and Earnings growth rate for NAHCO going to be there for the next 5 years?".

A short answer is;
1. The high entry barrier to NAHCO's bussiness is still intact, which fends off competition and keeps ROIC high for the business.
2. There’s still legroom for flight volumes to return to pre-covid levels, with the economy stabilizing. For a bussiness with high operating leverage, this will not only grow NAHCO's earnings but the ROIC as well. Which will translate into the excess cash flows it will distribute to shareholders.

Though we may not have a crystal ball on the strength of the growth engine for NAHCO, but with the high ROIC it has, even with a modest growth rate, NAHCO would still generate excess cash flows for shareholders.
From my own calculation Nahco ROIC for 2024 was 53%, while Presco ROIC for 2024 was 48%

I’m not arguing about the fundamentals of NAHCO, it’s a great business. My question now is where is it going to. It’s at N101, if we say it makes a N10 earnings for FY, and it trades at 10x PE and pays out N9 dividend then I think it’s fairly priced here, how much capital appreciation is left. If i’m sitting on 50m profit on the stock is it not justified to sell here?
It looked overpriced at 60, even at 80 and now.

Use a masking tape to cover your target price.
You may be existing a potential 5 to 6 bagger in the next 5 years at a good price.

Nahco has been more than a 2 bagger in the last 7 months

A bussiness with 25% Return on Capital will get back its Invested capital in 3 years.

With 50% Return on Capital, they will do it in 18 months.

Then his average or actual percentage gain on his Nahco investment is way below 2000%.

So that cannot be a good reason to have more than one brokerage account.
I don't think that was his exclusive reason. He had the old account way back the paper days of going physically to a broker to place orders or transact.

The second one I'd the digital age account.

I don't know how he manages the portfolio there.

I’ve heard all arguments for NAHCO, I still think the upside is not as high as it once was.

At the end of the day I want to enjoy my profit even if I miss out on 10-20% gain. I’ll go back on my guest mode, in between end of Q2 and H1 results, I should be able to know how companies performed through market whisper grin and I’ll know where to start taking positions again.

You're assuming he has equal units in both accounts. His older account has more than the newer account.

He's retired now, had more shares (both good and bad) and higher units in his older account.

I think for now the increase in upward movement is partly due to the naira devaluation/increase in Foreign participation....
However the NGX/SEC 10% increase/decrease rule will reduce any downward spiral.

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Mankind2024: 12:51am On Jun 25, 2025
The Nigerian market has made significant progress, and I'm optimistic about its future. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has improved regulation, and their oversight is commendable. Unlike the past(Ololo et al era of Union Bank, Oceanic Bank, Costain manipulation) when speculation drove market participation, today we have institutional investors like pension fund administrators leading the way. The introduction of exchange-traded funds and mutual funds has contributed to the NGX's growth.
We're better informed now, with corporate disclosures, FYR, QR, and insiders dealing available to all. The era of gross stock manipulation is declining and far behind us.
As a community, we've been vocal about corporate governance issues, and it's heartening to see companies respond to scrutiny.
As an elder statesman in this forum, I urge you to avoid creating unnecessary panic for new members. We'll all be here when the All-Share Index (ASI) crosses 130,000. Let's be realistic – can we honestly say no listed Nigerian bank or company worth N200 ($0.125) in today's economic climate of devaluation and inflation?
Every market participant plays a vital role. I trust the market's growth potential, despite its volatility. A PhD in Technical Analysis doesn't guarantee success. Instead of fearing the market, let's seize opportunities and prepare for the inevitable market fluctuations. Agbalowomeri, I'd advise you to capitalise on the current sentiment and position yourself for a generational wealth transfer in this upturn.

The market's volatility is a constant, but its growth potential is undeniable. We've moved past the era of manipulation and speculation. Let's focus on building a sustainable investment culture, with profit being the ultimate goal, realised through index growth.
#ASI @ 130K is a goal by Q4 2025.

(name alone Na comedy)
Short glimse so far:

Major negatives: Q2024 Vs Q2025.

Significant Operational loss driven by Fair value loss on modification of financial assets(whatever that means).
Unlike last year massive gain that was driven by Forex gain.
amongst other negatives.
Finance cost expense(Q-Q, over47% increase)

positive bias:
(Q12024-Q12025)
marginal increase in revenue.
Reduction in cost of sale-over 100% gain in GrossProfit.

Quarter EPS(group) improved about 80%. Group EPS is at 9 from 5
Company itself is at -2 from -17. Massive increase!!

Admin Expense was reduced by over 80%.
Equity improved from over about negative 320bn to negative 200bn(30%).
Amongst others.

Major profit stream:
Income tax credit and
net Finance income

This is a improved downline result to me despite the Marginal Revenue increase of about 1.85%.

The company(not the group) had a debt forgiveness of over 420bn
(from subsidiaries I think), that added to its massive other operating income(The Company).

The Other subsidiaries are also pulling significant weight. adding much value to the group( from EPS highlight alone)

efficiency is improving I think

Slowly getting out. But Surely.
Just a short glimse so far..

Una Good Morning.

Overall Outlook:

The Group's performance indicates a strategic effort towards financial recovery and growth, evidenced by improved overall profitability and asset base. But, the underlying operational challenges, particularly the operating losses and negative cash flow from operations, suggest that the profitability is currently being significantly influenced by non-operating factors or financing activities. For long-term sustainable growth, improving the core operational efficiency and generating consistent positive cash flow from operations will be crucial.

Whoever doesn't have a positive impact yesterday in his portfolio yesterday must be having stockfish, or just one or two stocks in that portfolio. Even NSEMPA page was agog with all manners of analysis and paralysis. It took me a while to read through everything. Even old schools were not left out. They found their way back to the platform.
All is not lost, today will be their turn. Couldn't count the number of smiley faces I saw grin.

Lesson: Don't be carried away, follow your investment objectives. Also learn to take some profits.
