Ogbeni, Warren Buffett didn't get to where he is because of fear of price depreciation.. wait it out if you can.. but if you have pressing need, sell. Na jijo you wan follow Loco do before? Dat na dangerous exercise.. even me sef buy sizeable quantity on Friday and I'm down in paper value but no actual loss until I sell.
If price reverses (not saying it will but it might) after you sell at a loss, just don't let regret eat you up. Everyone has miscalculated one time or the other. Just learn from your experience and don't be beaten twice
The algorithmic statisticians who have been normalizing 10 days are now applying RK4, Fourth Order Runge-Kutta method to a single day deviation (now two days). Before they finish their long iterations, the original function must have transformed unrecognizably... grin
All their lengthy simulations will no longer apply as the ODE ( Ordinary Differential Equation) must have irreversibly transformed!.. grin

Many investors underestimate the power of management.

Most loss making companies are a result of bad management.

Bad management lacks integrity.

AI overview:
The situation described involves a misunderstanding and misuse of the Runge-Kutta 4th order (RK4) method for solving ordinary differential equations. The core issue is applying a method designed for continuous change to a situation where the underlying function is changing rapidly due to a normalization process that is not accounted for in the simulation. This leads to inaccurate and potentially meaningless results.
Here's a breakdown of the problem:
RK4 and ODEs:
The RK4 method is a powerful tool for approximating solutions to Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs), which describe how a quantity changes over time or another continuous variable.
Normalization and Rapid Change:
The initial statement mentions that a 10-day normalization process is being applied, followed by a switch to RK4 for a single-day deviation. This normalization process likely involves significant alterations to the underlying function, potentially making it unrecognizable within the simulation timeframe.
Incompatible Time Scales:
The mismatch between the long normalization process and the single-day RK4 application means the ODE being solved by RK4 is no longer representative of the actual underlying behavior. The rapid changes caused by normalization invalidate the assumptions of the RK4 method.
Misuse of Sledgehammer:
The analogy of using a "sledgehammer to obliterate an innocent fly" highlights the excessive and inappropriate application of a complex method (RK4) to a situation where a simpler approach would be more accurate and efficient.
In essence, the algorithmic statisticians are trying to apply a method designed for continuous, relatively stable systems to a system that is undergoing drastic, discrete changes due to the normalization process. This leads to results that are not only inaccurate but also potentially meaningless because the underlying assumptions of the method are violated.

Fundamental analysis should always come before technical analysis. That is,never you over pay for a stock of any company.

Ignoring the above will always lead to negative consequences like the loss in stock price or you are unable to sell when you intend to sell.

I used to love numerical analysis back then in the Uni. I can recall that 'wicked' calculus lecturer who loved Runge-Kutta as if he contributed in evolving that method. Though meant for stubborn ODEs, it seems education to him started and ended with this very tedious iterative undertaking... grin

Majority of the tax avoidance techniques you have listed here work more in the US than anywhere else in the world, particularly Nigeria. I am not too sure our tax agency care that much about business expense so trying to make a personal expense become a business expense may not fly.
Mankind2024:
The Federal Government of Nigeria kept to its promise that there would be a new undertaker in the country(NRS). The undertaker was proposed to take the wealth of the rich for the poor. In the whole universe, the rich are not known to be victims of tax undertakers. They devise several legal means of rendering the tax undertakers powerless; in the end, the poor are the real victims of tax undertakers(NRS)

What NSEMPA forum investors must do to render the new undertaker(NRS) a toothless bulldog:

1. Be a sole proprietor; register your business.
2. Borrow to invest; use your portfolio as collateral at a great bargain. No one pays tax on borrowed funds.
3. As the CEO (the Tony Elumelu of your company), the business takes care of you and your family's day-to-day expenditures, including business retreats to Rwanda and London. Same way our resources take care of the politicians and all goverment workers.
4. Any good thing you see in any well-furnished bank or government office also qualifies to be in your business office and home by virtue of being a director.
5. Consider an offshore current account in the Isle of Jersey for a family investment corporation; this would grant you access to all the free brokers in the US. An alternative to this is citizenship by investment in selected overseas countries. This would counter their Panama choice, since Nigerian pastors and politicians and Panama are numbers 5, 6, and 7.
6. As a director, all your family members' responsibilities and those over 18 years are qualified for non-taxable minimum wage.
7. A company accountant or bookkeeper is necessary for documenting all expenditures.
8. A small room in your house is needed for the purpose of transferring all domestic expenditures to the registered business. As a matter of fact, the registered business address should be your house. No more electricity bills, petrol, or diesel for running generators from your pocket.
9. At the end of the day, the new tax undertaker(NRS) would need to refund you year in and year out since you are only expected to pay tax after profit. Directors earn zero salary; only non-taxable allowances.
10. Finally, year 1: capital loss; year 2: VAT refunds from all brokerage commissions, purchases and bank charges. Yes, here we come. The undertaker is effectively buried.☠️💀😵

It's actually very simple — I don't understand why you find this concept difficult.

At one point, a tricycle (keke) cost less than ₦500,000. A smart investor — let's call him Mr. A (or maybe just a sharp gambler) — could have connected the dots and concluded that this vehicle would outperform, based on what he observed from the motorcycle transport business.

If he had disposable income, he might have invested heavily in purchasing these tricycles, even while people like you were waiting for "hard facts" to emerge. By the time those facts became available, Mr. A would already own multiple units. If his calculations were correct, he'd make a fortune — which might be exactly what we're witnessing now, with the price of a single keke nearing ₦4 million and its growing effectiveness as a means of transportation.

If you still don't get it, that's okay. Stick to what you understand — and let the rest of us play the game.

It is a rip off. Those countries enjoy some benefits. Here, there is none. Currently I pay over 5M in tax per annum. Imagine how much it will be when the new one starts. Yet, I am paying for my own water, health, power, education, transport and even security etc. I am pained. Anyway, their enjoyment won't be long. The rip off will stop soon.

I never knew you were an advocator and adjudicator of FIRS. I advise you to preach your gospel of tax compliance at Alaba International Market, Abiriba small London, Onitsha New Market, and Ogbete Main Market before you preach your gospel of Pontius Pilate and Herod. I have no doubt you have evaded tax at a time; otherwise, I challenge you to cast the first stone if you've never evaded tax before in your life. All the tax-efficient ways you castigated are perfectly working for people in Nigeria. If deca bilionares in Abriba pay PIT, Abia State should be the richest place in Africa.
This isn't Technical Analysis (TA); I repeat, your PhD in TA isn't a prerequisite for success. Humble yourself and stop chasing shadows. Be smart and never get caught in the act.
I'm only waiting for item 5; the rest are already in progress.

ositadima1:
Evaluating Each Strategy:

1. Be a Sole Proprietor; Register Your Business:

Effectiveness: Partially effective. Registering a business is standard. Sole proprietorships are taxed under Personal Income Tax (PIT), which can have different rates than Company Income Tax (CIT). The main point is that business profits are still the individual's income for tax purposes.

2. Borrow to Invest; Use Your Portfolio as Collateral:

Effectiveness: Works for the borrowed amount. You don't pay tax on the principal of a loan. Interest expenses on loans for business purposes can be tax-deductible. However, any income you generate from the investment made with the borrowed funds will be taxable. This strategy helps with the initial capital, but not the eventual profits.

3. Use Your Business to Cover Family's Day-to-Day Expenses & "Business Retreats":

Risk: Extremely High. This is a common red flag for FIRS. While legitimate business expenses (like actual travel for work or professional training) are deductible, claiming personal family expenses or extravagant "retreats" without clear, verifiable business purpose is very risky.

Tax Rule: Expenses must be "wholly, exclusively, necessarily, and reasonably incurred" for the business. Personal expenses typically don't meet this test. FIRS can disallow these deductions, leading to higher tax bills, penalties, and interest. Comparing it to how politicians' expenses are covered is not a valid legal argument for businesses.

4. Furnish Your Home & Office with Business Funds as a Director:

Risk: High. Similar to point 3, while office furnishings are business expenses, claiming personal home furnishings or excessive items without clear business justification is an aggressive move. FIRS will scrutinize the primary purpose of such acquisitions.

5. Offshore Accounts (e.g., Isle of Jersey) or Citizenship by Investment:

Risk: Complex and Under High Scrutiny.

Offshore Accounts: Owning offshore accounts isn't illegal, but Nigerian residents are taxed on their worldwide income. Income earned offshore must be declared to FIRS. Failing to declare it is tax evasion with severe penalties. Global efforts like the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) make it increasingly difficult to hide offshore assets and income.

Citizenship by Investment: Gaining a second citizenship offers benefits like easier travel. However, if its primary aim is to avoid Nigerian tax obligations on income tied to Nigeria, it could be seen as an aggressive avoidance scheme or even evasion if tax laws are broken. Nigeria has rules on tax residency, and a second passport doesn't automatically exempt you from Nigerian taxes if you are considered a resident. The mention of Panama highlights the intense global scrutiny on such arrangements.

6. Employ Family Members for "Non-Taxable Minimum Wage":

Risk: Potentially High Abuse. Employing family members in a legitimate business is fine, but the payments must be for actual work done and at market rates. If the "employment" is fake, or wages are disproportionate to work, FIRS can disallow deductions. While minimum wage earners may be exempt from PAYE (Personal Income Tax) if their total annual income is below a certain threshold (e.g., NGN 70,000/month), the business still needs to justify the expense as legitimate for its operations.

7. Hire a Company Accountant or Bookkeeper:

Effectiveness: ESSENTIAL. This is the only truly sound advice. Accurate and detailed record-keeping by a professional is crucial for defending any deductions and ensuring compliance. Without it, none of the other strategies can be substantiated.

8. Designate a Room in Your House as Your Business Address; Transfer All Domestic Bills to Business:

Effectiveness: Partially works (with strict limits) / High Risk of Abuse.

Home Office Deduction: Nigerian tax law allows for a portion of home expenses (like rent, utilities) to be deducted if a part of your home is genuinely and exclusively used as a business office. This is usually pro-rated (e.g., based on the percentage of space used).

"Transferring all domestic expenditures": This is where it gets problematic. Claiming all electricity, fuel for generators (which power the whole house), etc., without clear separation or pro-ration for actual business use, is an aggressive overclaim and likely illegal. FIRS will disallow the personal portion.

9. Directors Earn Zero Salary; Only "Non-Taxable Allowances" & Aim for Refunds:

Risk: Problematic and Misleading.

"Zero Salary, Non-Taxable Allowances": While some legitimate expense reimbursements are non-taxable, disguising significant payments as "non-taxable allowances" to avoid income tax is a common form of tax manipulation and will likely be challenged as an attempt to hide taxable income. Director's fees are generally taxable.

Refunds from Losses: You only pay tax on profit. If a business genuinely incurs more allowable expenses than income, it reports a loss, and no tax is due. However, if these "losses" are created artificially by claiming personal expenses as business deductions, FIRS will re-assess, disallow the improper deductions, and then tax, along with penalties, will be due. Aiming for consistent annual refunds in such a scenario would trigger deep audits.

10. Year 1: Capital Loss; Year 2: VAT Refunds... "Undertaker Buried":

Risk: Aggressive and Misleading.

Capital Loss: Businesses can genuinely incur capital losses. However, engineering a "capital loss" for tax purposes without a genuine economic reason (or by misclassifying expenses) is a red flag.

VAT Refunds: Businesses can claim back input VAT (paid on purchases) if it exceeds output VAT (charged on sales). This is a standard process if a business is genuinely VAT registered and has legitimate transactions. However, presenting this as a general strategy to "bury" the tax system suggests pushing the boundaries beyond legitimate VAT mechanisms.
