A man said to be a pastor and an unidentified married woman were stripped naked in Iguomon Community of Benin, Edo State, after they were caught in sexual act.

The public humiliation was caught in a viral video that circulated online on Monday.

Some of those who witnessed the scene, confirmed that the pastor, whose identity was not immediately known, had been having an affair with the woman before they were eventually caught.

Angry youths reportedly dragged the pair out of a house, stripped the pastor completely naked, and sat him on the bare floor.

The woman was also dragged, taunted, and later stripped naked by a lady among the mob.

The incident attracted a large crowd, with some residents recording the spectacle on their mobile phones.

A popular Edo state based activist, Marxist Kola Edokpayi of the Talakawa Parliament, who shared the video line, frowned at the treatment meted out to the duo, maintaining that jungle justice should not be encouraged as it could lead to death.

Edokpayi said that the incident should have been reported to the police for proper investigation for appropriate steps.

He said, “We condemn jungle justice in its entirety and what the people did in that community cannot be justified. The matter should have been reported to the police who will take appropriate action.”

An unidentified married woman? If the woman could not be identified, how was it confirmed that she is married?

Again, why the public embarrassment? Sexual immorality is bad. But for the fact that the adult parties involved here consented to the act and no man has identified himself and complained as the husband of the woman, the treatment given to the man and the woman is wrong.

I don't want to sound religious or like a moralist right now but when two adults consented to intimacy, what exactly triggered the anger in the youths that have been tolerating politicians?

Nigeria is going banana, what made the youths angry in the first place? If the woman's husband finds out, he should divorce her, if the church members feel betrayed or disappointed, they can go to another church. What's the motivation behind this barbaric behavior of stripping people because of adultery?

Assault is an offence. And those assaulting are filming themselves.

There is evidence to prosecute them.

Infidelity is not a crime and as such, there is no justification for the beating. Infidelity is a ground for dissolving a marriage and certainly not a crime by our laws. Maybe in the north, they might punish it for religious reasons.

PS: There was a case of a woman who stripped another woman for sleeping with her husband. The woman stripped was crying as she didn't know the man was married. The woman who humiliated her and her friend who helped were both arrested and jailed. These people beating the man and smashing his organ with wood have no business in the matter. They'd end up in jail for attempted murder (life imprisonment).

This could be a set up but definitely if it's true the said pastor is just impersonating, if u truly know God there's no way your preek will stand infront of another woman who's not your spouse, just as we have fake lawyers fake soilders and co ,we have fake pastors too

Sleeping with a married woman or married man isn't a crime under Nigerian criminal justice system or law. It was a mutual agreement between both parties to have intimacy.
Those molesting them can go to prison or be arrested.
It's just because of morality or religious reasons people look at it as being wrong, but it's not a crime.
