N200 million is not small in Nigeria.

Probably just 1% of Nigerians have a networth of N200 million, although that is debatable

It’s actually ironic that the same devaluation has made that 1% estimate inaccurate. ₦200 million in cash may be rare, but if we’re talking about net worth, then I believe it exceeds that 1% threshold for more people than assumed.

By net worth, I mean the total value of assets — including land, vehicles, buildings (all valued according to current market realities), and then cash.

Let me give a simple example: in my village — I don’t know about yours — a plot of land goes for no less than ₦10 million. In urban areas, it’s likely much higher. The cost of an average building now starts from around ₦40 to ₦50 million — and that’s without factoring in many other details. Do you know the current price of a standard iron door?

An SUV now costs about ₦12 to ₦15 million for a relatively affordable one. Some people own two cars, a house in the village, and another in town.

My point is: ₦200 million sounds like a huge amount, but in today’s reality, it really isn’t. For someone just starting out and aiming to acquire these basic assets, you could easily spend close to that figure.

That said, I do agree — pulling out that amount in cash is still extremely difficult, and only a few people can manage it.

No statistics quoted. You might want to check for figures from F.O.S or any other agency

The generally acceptable assets that are relevant in computing net worth are very liquid assets like stocks, bonds, cash, etc and not fixed assets.

I am never interested in being unnecessarily brutal. But I will expect anyone with a phone and data to know 20 percent of over 200 million people.

SEC might need to review their definition of a High Networth Investor to about N500 million, from N100 million

Note, SEC does not recognize the value of your car, house, furniture and other personal belongings.

I beg to differ. I try to avoid lengthy arguments these days, but I can't just accept misinformation.

Even listed companies on the NGX — when you look at their balance sheets — report assets as everything they own that contributes to generating value, not just cash and cash equivalents.

Even Forbes, when assessing individual wealth, includes mansions and cars along with stocks and cash. So I don’t understand why your definition is different.

Do we need to consult the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary?

I wonder what is happening to Consolidated Hallmark Holdings (CONHALLPLC). It has been dancing on the spot since April.. and not showing any sign of coming up while other insurance stocks were running this past week.

Any idea why? Thanks all.

I feel 500 Million Naira is even small. By international standard, high net worth individuals are those with liquid assets of minimum of One Million Dollar and above.

I think both liquid and non-liquid (fixed) assets are generally considered when calculating net worth. Maybe it has changed.

I think this link can be of help https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/wealth-management/high-net-worth-individual-hnwi/.

And the SEC Rules attached by Oga Emma in his last post is clear and unambiguous too. It can also be a useful guide.

It is commonsensical to define networth as amalgam of all form of assets. But the conceptual meaning is the challenge here.

This man can argue for Africa. As soon as I saw that cut out report from SEC posted, I knew you will also know more than SEC.

Always on the opposite side. If they have initially taking your ideas as the terms to define a high net worth, you will still argue it to the opposite direction.

Why do I have this feeling that you could be arguing with yourself as well.

You will always argue without evidence. And when others bring out evidence, you argue with evidence

You sure say u go even agree with OXFORD so?

Men you are just too much. You are one of a kind
