bovali:Just because I have ₦500,000 in the bank doesn’t mean that’s all the resources I have. I’m sure that if you had ₦200 million, you wouldn’t keep it all in the bank either — you’d invest most of it and maybe leave around ₦300,000 for day-to-day expenses. ![]() You're looking at the wrong data — lol. Let me illustrate with a famous story from World War II: During the war, military analysts wanted to know where to add extra armor to their bomber planes to make them more resilient. They studied all the planes that returned from missions and mapped out where they had bullet holes. They saw that the wings, fuselage, and tail often had many hits. Their first thought was, 'Let's reinforce these areas; they're clearly getting hit the most.' But a brilliant statistician named Abraham Wald pointed out the flaw: They were only looking at the survivors – the planes that made it back. What about the planes that didn't return? He argued that the areas without bullet holes on the surviving planes (like the engines and cockpit) were actually the most vulnerable. If those critical areas were hit, the plane likely crashed and never came back to be counted. So, they reinforced the areas that appeared untouched on the survivors, and it significantly improved plane survivability. ![]() |

In clearer terms, the government can only track money in deposit bank accounts. We also need to consider physical cash stocked in the rich informal sector. Now that wealthy informal sector operators are aware of the government's plan to monitor their bank balances, starting January 2026 with the Nigerian Revenue Services' initiative, the benefits of the cashless policy may be outweighed by massive losses. Trust Nigerians; come January 2026, some traders might insist on cash transactions only. https://nairametrics.com/2025/04/22/currency-in-circulation-drops-to-n5-trillion-in-march-2025-cbn/ bovali:

Mankind2024:Even when you assume that the 5 trn is in the hands of the 20% alone (40m nigerians) are you saying they hold 125k each? Let's be realistic. If only 2.4% are earning over 200k a month, even if they earn 100% for 10 years, it won't reach 200m in assets. 1% of Nigerians control 99% of our wealth. The numbers do not lie. |

ositadima1:So they have less than 500k in the bank but they are hiding 200m naira somewhere else? Okay got it . No counter data or anything, Just vibes. How would i have amassed the 200m in the first place? |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ppogba: 3:51pm On Jul 05, 2025 |
bovali:Well-done for this your analysis oo. At least, it will help some educated ignorant . I keep wondering whether it is the 20 percent of Nigeria' s population that people do not know what it translates to or the sum of N200m itself. A clown talked about the number of houses in his village to argue his position while another said most people he knows are in the category of those that owns houses with SUVs. Like I said earlier, I just hope that the kids are not migrating here surreptitiously. |

Streetinvestor2:I reduced holdings yesterday at 2.70. I still have up to 10m units of chams. Since the right issue is 1.70 and official price is heading to 3.00,I can make small money selling my right. This is the reason I didn't offload all yesterday. I am sure chams will ride to N5 when I completely hands off but I am looking at ci leasing as a stock to make my retirement comfortable. |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ositadima1(m): 4:06pm On Jul 05, 2025 |
bovali:This is not what I’m saying. My point is that the statistic claiming only 5% of Nigerians hold more than ₦500,000 is not a strong argument for proving that less than 1% of Nigerians have ₦200 million. There are millionaires who keep their money outside the banking system. Also, what’s the basis of the study? Was this 5% of account holders measured at a single point in time — as in a cross-sectional measurement? If so, what if that moment was unusual? Or were the account holders tracked over time — as in a longitudinal measurement? And if so, over what time interval? No mind me ooo, I get time today. ![]() |

ppogba:Lol, at some point — and maybe even today — I suspect some Fulani herdsmen have over ₦200 million in assets. A single big cow was going for over ₦1 million at one point — I know this because I actually priced it myself. So, a Fulani man with over 100 cows could very well be part of the ₦200 million club. ![]() |

opadiya:I don't think so. Naira to dollar was N500 to $1 when SEC Nigeria used N100 million We also have what economist call Purchasing Power Parity. The purchasing power of $1 million in US might be less than the purchasing power of N1.5 billion in Nigeria |

Anyone who plans for retirement must carry only one stock in mind and close ear/eyes on every other stock. Invest heavily on the stock and wait it out.It will pay heavily than having mushroom stocks up and down. It's time for one stock consolidation as the last bull in a decade is coming up in our own time. In 2008,those with heavy portfolios retired leaving us with mushroom portfolios in a school of wilderness experience. Today,Loco has graduated from newbie to a veteran in the stock market. We must tell our stories |

ositadima1:When did " some Fulani men " suddenly translates to 20% of Nigerian? Now, the arguments are getting crazier. I have seen an analogy of someone mentioning the number of houses in his village. Another person mentioned that most people he knows fall in the category hence 20% of Nigerians are worth the amount. But my simple question is, what will be your reaction if statisense or UNDP suddenly comes up with such information tommorrow. What will you say of it? |

ositadima1:Can we further analyse your postulation? Assuming but not conceding that your cattle valuation is accurate, most Fulani men are "serfs" who are mere servants to a few big men.. let's also consider that there's capital involved which could be borrowed or part payment made for the cattle with an arrangement to pay balance after sales.. flowing from this, the total value of the cattle can not be said to be the cattle trader's worth... Generally speaking, you may want to argue on behalf of owners of borrower companies that the limited liability company is a separate legal entity and a juristic person, therefore the main owner is not legally affected by his company's debt.. which would be a legally valid argument.. however, many still use their personal assets as collateral so the lender has a lien on such. Would it then be proper to continue to credit the full property value to the owners in valuation? In the case of a sole proprietorship (business name), business man is one and the same with his business so the debts of the company are his, which would also affect his networth. Just saying some rich men may not be as rich as they seem.. |

Locotrader:these is very risky, what if something goes wrong. The statement about investing heavily in a single stock for retirement seems to be a personal investment strategy rather than a widely recommended approach. Diversification vs. Concentration Most financial experts recommend diversification as a key principle of investing, as it can help manage risk and increase potential returns. Concentrating investments in a single stock can be riskier, as the investment's performance is tied to a single company's success. Reference While I couldn't find a specific article that supports the claim, many reputable financial sources, such as Investopedia, Forbes, and The Financial Times, emphasize the importance of diversification in investment portfolios. Investment Strategy It's essential to consider individual financial goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon when developing an investment strategy. A balanced approach that includes a mix of different asset classes and investments can help mitigate risk and potentially lead to more stable returns. |

fashionnisir:It is a calculated risk. We have done it two or three times in the last 10 years.it is not everyday thing.we do it only when we sight heavy liquidity. It is only for experienced people in the business. Most of the ogas you see here do it.Thats why some people are not always in the market. Don't try it because your faith is already shaking like Peter in the Bible. You can't walk on the water. This call is an open one but strictly for only Loco. Don't try this else you might regret in your entire life |

fashionnisir:In defence of Loco.. depends on how vigilant you are.. so you don't lose huge value.. thank God for 10% daily loss limit I googled this: which investor said put all your eggs in one basket and watch it? AI Overview +2 The quote "Put all your eggs in one basket and then watch that basket" is often attributed to Warren Buffett, though it is also associated with Andrew Carnegie. While the phrase is commonly known as a warning against putting all your resources into one thing, Buffett's interpretation emphasizes focusing intently on a single, well-understood investment and managing it carefully. Here's a more detailed explanation: The Traditional View: The common understanding of "Don't put all your eggs in one basket" is that diversification is key to managing risk. This means spreading investments across different assets to reduce the impact of any single negative outcome. Buffett's Perspective: Buffett's interpretation, however, is that if you have deep knowledge and confidence in a particular investment, it can be more profitable to concentrate your resources and dedicate significant attention to that one basket. Focus and Diligence: The second part of the quote, "...and watch that basket," is crucial. It implies that while focusing on one investment, one must be extremely diligent and actively monitor its performance. Carnegie's Interpretation: Andrew Carnegie, a steel magnate, also famously used this quote, but his focus was on the power of intense focus and dedication to a single endeavor, rather than diversification |
