There is a superstition that says when a man’s wife is pregnant he usually goes broke. After observing some men and even myself I can shamefully say this seem like the truth.

For some weird reasons the man usually struggle during his wife’s pregnancy and some months after she gives birth. But after that brokeness phase has passed more wealth usually comes for that man. But that’s if the man survives that hellish phase.

Secondly, when the wife gives birth she usually have psychological issue one of which includes disliking the husband and fighting him and being stubborn in general. If a man isn’t careful he usually divorce his wife during this period.

My wife gave birth to a girl on December 1st of last year. Last year was the best year of my life financially and I bought her a car on November 21st of last year.

I have heard that story before and some said it's when your wife is carrying a male child; and that the male child is competing with you on who'll be greater between you and the male child that's why you'll face the difficulties.

But I don't believe in those tale.

You see poor people ehn, they can manufacture outlandish theories to justify their poverty.

When a woman is pregnant, it comes with different happenings that will require money to cater for. So, as a man, you'll have to be spending more cuz bukata don land!

Same with when she delivers, you'll have to spend more! Infact, if care is not taken, you'll empty all your savings! When a woman is pregnant, the rate at which you spend money doubles! When the wavelength of your spending is more than your earning wavelength, you’re tend to go broke..

The only time you won't feel it much is if you're rich or have some huge money saved!

The year my wife got pregnant was the best of my life. I got double promotion at work, transferred to a higher office in another town, and I was lodged in an all expense paid hotel for 6 months. I even bought my 1st car same year. To the extent that friends tagged my wife an ogbanje, because the blessings was much.

Life can be a mystery anyways.

Gbam! My wife took in again and the expected happened! I didn't even argue or tried to fight it. I already knew it was time to move again. Lo and behold! It happened for the third time and we moved again.

And ehm, you guessed wrong. We're based in Lagos. And on the island for that matter. At a point, I had agents numbers on speed dial.

Hopefully, it takes a while before we move again because me I'm tired of moving from place to place.

This kind of superstition is largely a problem among Black man( Nigerians). In societies where systems work, especially healthcare, such beliefs wouldn’t even cross your mind, let alone seem real. Sadly, your environment has shaped this way of thinking.

What’s more surprising is how common it is among Gen Z. Did your fathers or grandfathers ever think this way? If you choose not to prepare for your unborn child and blame it on these odd notions, that’s on you. Truth is, only the poor typically think like this.
