One thing i have observed you in particular do is buy a stock once (with big sums i suppose) and not topup. That is mostly why your percents are historically high.
Correct?
If yes, why do you not top up as you get periodic investment funds?

According to ChatGPT,

Digital assets now taxable:
CGT now applies to crypto, NFTs, and digital assets, at 10% for individuals, or per applicable PIT band

Extended loss relief and carry-forward:
Capital losses can be deducted from gains within the same asset class, and unused losses can be carried forward for up to 5 years

Roll-over relief for share disposal:
Gains on share sales are deferable if proceeds are reinvested into Nigerian company shares within the same year of assessment

Expanded CGT on indirect transfers:
Tax now applies to indirect disposal of shareholding, such as sales via offshore holding companies

Higher exemption threshold for share disposal:
Up to ₦150 million proceeds, with gains below ₦10 million, are exempt in any 12-month period

Thr is no CGT when you sell and reinvest the proceed. I have listened to explanation on the tax law and read some of it too..When I sell I buy back.It does not need to go through bank.The going through bank is when T 3 abi T2 happens .When you have not pulled the money from your investment account. It cannot be viewed as profit made.And is what is obtainable abroad..This is one of the ways to escape paying tax.You just keep reinvesting
Stop saying wrong things with confidence. The moment you sell, profit or loss with be determined and you are liable to CGT. Cash withdrawal or not is account receivable and cash/bank which has nothing to do with taxation.

Do you know you're liable to tax if you sell your goods on credit. The same is applicable here.

Q:
So If I invest 10million naira in stock XYZ and sell after 15months for 17million naira.
Will CGT be deducted?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ans:

Great question! Let's break this down using the **2025 Tax Reform Act** in Nigeria (effective **January 2026**):

### 🔍 Your Scenario:

* **Investment amount:** ₦10 million
* **Sale proceeds after 15 months:** ₦17 million
* **Capital gain:** ₦7 million
* **Type of asset:** Shares/stocks (stock XYZ)
* **Investor type:** Assuming you are an *individual resident in Nigeria*

---

### ✅ Does CGT Apply?

**No**, **CGT will not apply in your case**, because:

> 📌 **Capital gains from share disposals are exempt** if:
>
> * The total proceeds in a 12-month period are **₦150 million or less**, **AND**
> * The capital gain from such transactions is **₦10 million or less**

Your case:

* ₦17 million proceeds → ✅ under ₦150 million
* ₦7 million gain → ✅ under ₦10 million

➡️ **You meet both exemption criteria**, so **you won’t be taxed**.

---

### 💡 Extra Tip: Want to sell more later?

If you plan to sell more shares and your **total proceeds** in a **12-month period** exceed ₦150 million, or your **gains exceed ₦10 million**, then CGT (at **10% or your PIT rate**) would apply **on the excess**.

---

Let me know if you want help planning roll-over relief, tracking gains, or offsetting losses!

I have not read the tax reform, I'm only saying what is applicable as an authority in the field.
In every law there is always an exception which will give tax allowance. For instance any profit up to £20,000 made on investment (interest, dividend, shares appreciation) are not taxable, but any pence in excess of the 20k will be taxed.

There is something called threshold which is the 150m. If your aggregate sales in the first month is up to 150m and you make profit of 10m with the aggregate transactions.
Oga, if sell 1m worth of stocks the following month and make 100k profit, you will be taxed. They are not waiting till year end. Tax authority all over the world don't wait till year end to tax an individual because they risk of default is very high.

Are you going to leave your profit turning into loss because you don't want to be taxed? That is the only way to avoid CGT.

Oga abeg go read the new tax law or use search machines.
Infact if you don't make profit of 10 million in you sales as profit you won't pay CGT as some operating in nigeria
The one you are talking about here is even for foreign investors if I am not wrong .
Please I am done with the tax matter

Correct?
If yes, why do you not top up as you get periodic investment funds?
Top up makes sense if the price is reducing and the stock is becoming cheaper, so that your average cost price per unit will be less and your percentage profit will be higher.
If the price is increasing, then top up would increase your average cost price per unit and your percentage gain will be lower.

Actually, the First Bank has been beaten down unfairly low. Why should it be trading much lower than UBA and Zenith? Those banks have the same forbearance issues as First Bank. I hope the guys lifting Firt Bank's price are aiming for a high target price.
