Gen Z & Religion: What's Really Going On?

Gen Z is the most connected generation yet spiritually, many feel disconnected.
More and more young people are saying:
"I’m not religious."
But why?

Let’s unpack it ;

1. Church Hurt & Hypocrisy
Gen Z questions what doesn’t align.
When leaders preach love but practice judgment, they bounce.
They're not leaving God,they're leaving the noise.


2. Information Overload
Gen Z grew up Googling everything.
They’ve seen different beliefs side-by-side and they ask deeper questions.
Blind faith doesn’t work for a generation raised to research.


3. Mental Health Matters
They care about emotional safety.
If a religious space triggers shame more than healing, they won’t stay.
They want faith that listens, not just lectures.


4. Authenticity Over Tradition
Gen Z doesn’t care about appearances,they crave realness.
If faith feels scripted or outdated, they’d rather pass.


5. Spiritual but Not Religious
Many aren’t atheist,they just don’t vibe with the labels.
They pray. They believe. But they want a personal relationship, not just performance.

So is Gen Z faithless? No.
They’re just tired of performative religion.
They’re seeking real connection with God, with meaning, with truth.

Maybe the church doesn’t need to be louder.
Maybe it needs to be more honest.
More human. More healing.

Most of the youngsters are shifting to traditional religions and even introducing foreigners. It is a great shift that exposes the motives behind organized religion.

Pastors that should be servants of God are now living like kings and Lord's...

Just imagine what pastors are saying on pulpits..
Today Christians are more wicked than jezebel and Satan himself...

They preach tithing , Jesus never collected tithe, disciples never collected tithe..
Tithing is giving only to Levites and Jesus Christ abolished that with his new priesthood..
Now u should give freely according to how you desire.

Lastly Jesus Christ and God's name is
Yahweh and yeshua,if you want to be a Christian..study your Bible well

Sabbath day is on Saturday..
First day is Sunday and last day is Saturday...

In future, people would hardly talk about religion and they won't even be talking about heaven or hellfire again.


Up til late 90s. 8/10 preachings were about kingdom of God, repentance, salvation and hellfire, but now 9/10 of preachings are about prosperity, breakthrough and success.

it's good to seek answers but they should be turning to the Holy Spirit for answers though

If not they won't be different from the generations before them, the devil deceives every generation regardless of modern innovations

The average nigerian pastor will Judge you, and you're supposed to be mumu to oppression and all, but an average Gen Z will change it for you immediately.

I was in a flight on Friday, this middle aged man told me put off your phone and I replied it's on airplane mode, he said nonetheless keep it in your pocket, "you can't do that later, can't you?" I Changed it for him immediately and asked him to withdraw the last statement, he apologized in all honesty

Most of what the church promised can be gotten in a functioning society without need of religion

I blame them not. The recent Christian churches has really made every sensible humans to lose interest completely in church. Churches is now the den of thieves.

There was this philosopher that wrote on his book that even if religion is fake(which he doesn't believe to be fake though) he feels it serves a good purpose because it gives hope to the hopeless and cure the people of the fear of what lies beyond...(I used my own words to explain this).

I read the book more than 10yrs ago, i can't remember the writer's name. I have searched for that book online so many times

Keep blowing grammar. When most of the Gen Zs begin having life challenges, they will all run to God. Inexperience and a false sense of exposure is the problem of Gen Z youths.

When some of you experience juju and witchcraft attack, you will know God is real. Keep forming woke!

Those of them running to traditional religion aka idol worship will learn their lessons in the next 5 to 10 years, that's when they'll realise that their mothers and fathers weren't fools for praying and going to Church.

The writer was very correct, Religion keeps you focus and straighten your belief, however if these knowledge are in the wrong hands, it is as dangerous as being half educated.

if anyone sees through the lies of the devil, it's not because they are gen z but because Jesus opened their eyes and on their part because they diligently sought the truth, they sought the real Jesus and he opened their eyes

Judges 2, I will paraphrase.... And there came a generation that do not know God.
A lot of work need to be done in terms of godly and moral values. What use to be the abnormal is now the norms.
No wonder God told moses in the bible to teach your children the law bind it on your door post and wrist but unfortunately we are on steep decline.
Most children are on the fast lane and feel they know it all, they won't even blink to disrespect and elder when corrected. Social media is their sanctuary and validation.
So much identity crisis, they don't know which road to take or consult with God but rather consult with friends that will lead them astray.
Not just Gen Z but to everyone may God gives us Grace for the Race
