GeneralDae:
In terms of total stock market capitalisation (equities) in all of Africa:

1) South Africa - $1.17 trillion
2) Morocco - $100.1 Billion
3) Nigeria - $59.3 Billion

(As at close of trade yesterday and using official exchange rates)
Can you also compare their GDP with their stock market capitalization

Nigeria does over 20,000 MW actually but they are mostly off grid, so only 5000 MW is utilised from the grid (installed capacity 13000 MW). There is an extra off grid 19000 MW generation by other sources however, which the Government must make deliberate effort to integrate.
South Africa’s 45000 MW is still not good enough for them because they do a lot of mining.
SA 45GW and expanding over 60% utilisation
Mor 11GW abd expanding with 100% utilisation
Nga 13GW and expanding with less than 30% utilisation

Everything is embedded in power. We cannot wish our way out of this by skipping industrialization.

I know Nigerian stock market is just over 20% of GDP (which is way lower than the norm) while that of SA is over 300% of GDP.

Note that South Africa’s case is way above the norm around the World and only few countries have their stock market at 300% of GDP e.g Saudi Arabia. USA may also get to that record.

I think what works for SA is that their market has always been a destination for all investors around the world who want to invest in Africa and this didn’t just start now.

My Guy Zendi grin grin grin grin ::

1:: When I was posting about MeCure here (Date 2-4 June 2025) Mecure was a trading at 11 naira

And when i came here to post it... alot of people here (institutional traders) shocked shocked shocked said Fidson was a better option and went to buy fidson and pushed the price of Fidson up..... because I was promoting Mecure

Now... if we compare both stock from June to date
Mecure : has gone up by 55%
Fidson : 66%

Fidson would not have gone up by 66% if I wasn't posting about mecure .... so failed woefully where please....

zendi:
We have not forgotten how jealousy brought you and your Mecure here to compete with Loco.

And when you failed woefully, we became hypocrites.

You must apologize for your bad mouth, or Loco stock no go work for you.

Wow.
Does it mean Nigerian companies are relatively low valued compared to S/A companies? Or there are more big time multinational companies listed on the SA exchange
most businesses are privately held

Yes oga Emma and sunrise don't make money from this junks you mentioned here.
Infact sunrise has made more money in sound stocks this yr than this junks even as a trader though I am not a trader. I sold most of my aiico at #1.70 and very happy whr I channelled the money. I will not touch any of those stock you mentioned with long pole, lol
For roylex is not a junk though I was not impressed with the H2 results. Remember when I called you attention to it then. You rejected it and I said I will pick it for my second jijo while you said you had a different stock in mind.
That I don't consider royalex as junk does not mean thr are no many junks still in insurance sector. Many H1 results of insurance are disappointing if you checked them
My problem with aiico has been the ceo and the OS.The ceo is cornering the company profits to himself..We have discussed that here in the past. That company is suppose to be at par with nem insurance now

Who will insure the future 1 trillion economy?

The insurance company will rise to the task once restructuring/regulations/ethics and controls become right and the overall economy starts to make sense.

The industry is still not big enough. Can a baby look after an adult?

I am even surprised that we could work our way back to 3rd easily in Africa despite suffering the worst devaluation in Africa since 2023, from 462 to 1530 (3.3 fold devaluation).

Put our currency at 900/$ now and we are automatically above Morocco at second. But as at January 2024, we were still officially at around 850/$.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by faoogoke(m): 4:56pm On Aug 05, 2025
I agree with you about the financial figures of most insurance stocks.

Recapitalization may change the trend however with many diversifying to asset management, trade finance, HMO, microfinance banking etc.

We wait and see.

The dollar was not 462.The dollar that was controlling the economy was at 700 plus in my street sense How many businesses was using #462 in doing thr costing .The #462 was for spreading corruption to the few privileged
