emmaodet:Market cap = outstanding shares x current price If Market cap = 10 billion Outstanding shares = 2 billion Then Current price = ₦(10/2) billion = ₦5 Assume outstanding shares is fixed at 2 billion, how can market cap move from 10 billion to 20 billion? Price will need to double to ₦10 and there will need to be people who have additional 10 billion and willing to buy at the ₦10 per share. You can extrapolate for other desired price levels, outstanding shares and market cap. You either increase outstanding shares and/or increase find new money to buy at a certain price to reach a desired market cap. If a stock is currently at 500 billion market cap and price is ₦2. If shares is fixed, you will need another 500 billion to get the price to ₦4 and 1 trillion market cap (100% increase). From 1 trillion, you need another 1 trillion to get the price to ₦8 and 2 trillion market cap (another 100% increase). Understanding this will help you moderate your expectations and know when to buy into a stock and the returns you expect. It helps you understand price from a relative standpoint. Your 100% returns expectation when you bouth at ₦10 is different from someone else's 100% returns expectation who bought same stock at ₦100. It's why you see that large cap shares find it difficult to move quickly in bull market while small cap shares move up quicker, and It's why it's always recommended to buy when stock price is low, like when there's been a severe market crash and everything is down 60-80% from their all time highs. |

mallamOmonile1:" He who asks for direction never misses his way"....... African proverb. 1. Before now, the NGX is dominated by Foreign portfolio Investors and hence when election approaches, those guys will sell off and take their " hot monies" to other investment destinations around the world. The uncertainties sorrounding elections everywhere in the world is responsible for this. Hence, the dumpings lead to prolonged bearish runs around that time. 2. Local investors diversified into other better yielding investments at this point in time especially the Fixed income market and some of them that are politically exposed persons spend heavily on elections. These are just some of the things that happens especially during pre election years. You are welcome . |

In line with recent directives issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), all Registrars are now mandated to transfer qualifying unclaimed dividends to designated accounts maintained by the Debt Management Office (DMO), in accordance with the provisions of the Finance Act 2020 and the establishment of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund (UFTF). As such, all Registrars have transferred the following categories of unclaimed dividends in their Registry: A. All unclaimed dividends outstanding for a period of six (6) years but less than twelve (12) years as at December 31, 2020; and B. All unclaimed dividends that have remained outstanding for six (6) years and above, accumulated between January 1, 2021 and June 10, 2025. This transfer is in full compliance with the relevant regulatory requirements and will be effected accordingly. Please 🙏 does that mean that dividend cannot be claimed again? |

Joyful365:You are totally wrong about needing N500 Billion to double the market cap of a N500 billion stock. I hope you understand the rules of the NGX. 100k units move price. So if a N2 stock is doing full bid daily, it will take 8 trading days to double. With N200k price can jump with a 100k volume. Since there could be other trades apart from this block trade we can as well estimate that total value of trade of N2 million is sufficient for first price movement. By the time the stock is trading up to N4 per share, a total of N100 million can do the magic of moving the price from N2 to N4. Whearas market cap would have doubled from N500 billion to N1 trillion. |

TheCable Reported: “All told, I lost more than US$480 million to the plunge in oil prices, US$258 million through the devaluation of the naira, US$320 million because of accruing interest, and another US$160 million when the stocks crashed,” he wrote in the book excerpts seen by TheCable. “One moment, I was the darling of the banks, who did everything in the world to court me, do business with me, give me loans, take deposits from me. They would send bewitching ladies to make their offers more convincing, and now I was waking up to the sight of hefty, barrel-chested men standing menacingly in front of my gate, waiting for the moment I’d step out of my compound.”

ppogba:It was actually a rhetorical question... Such humongous largesse as gift (doesn't qualify as sponsorship in my humble view), shouldn't sit well with shareholders.. Not aware of any publicly quoted company company in saner climes doling out such massive cash gifts.. I stand to be corrected Particularly as the President had already given them a generous dole out. Zenith should've done smaller. Profligacy |

Deppysit:If you are relatively new investing in stocks but you have the funds, it is more advisable to buy MTN(N480) and/or Dangote Cement(N577). They are more stable and pay dividend consistently. Oando is unstable for now, though some believe it has good potentials if the company overcomes its debt challenges. It is for those who can bear the risk and wait for the long term. Not likely to pay dividend soon, but you may benefit from the ongoing share redistribution (bonus). |

SonofElElyonRet:Not disregarding your concern. I think it is common everywhere. Companies do report such gifts and donations in their audited annual reports. It is even more common in "saner climes" because they believe that sports, arts, and others are integral parts of education and avenues to unleash talents. So anything to support or encourage participation and growth is largely considered a contribution as part of social responsibilities. Attached is a screenshot from the 2024 FY audited reports of Zenith bank. If gifts to sports teams attract scrutiny and a frown, there are some groups on this list that would attract even more controversies.
