Locotrader:FGN 364-day Treasury Bill: ~19% p.a., also safe, interest paid upfront via discount, higher yield than your FD. FGN Savings Bonds: 2-year at 15.762% p.a., 3-year at 16.762% p.a., pay interest quarterly, tradable on NGX, lower yield than your FD. Bottom line: Your FD is safer than stocks and beats the Savings Bond yield, but a 364-day Treasury Bill currently pays more (~19%) with the same low risk. |

Let’s break it down clearly. 1️⃣ What you’re proposing You pull ₦100,000,000 out of the stock market. You put it in a Wema ALAT Fixed Deposit for 365 days at 17.75% p.a. Interest is paid upfront. WHT (Withholding Tax) on interest is 10%. After tax, you’ll receive ₦15,756,000 as your full year’s interest in advance. 2️⃣ Math check Gross interest: ₦100,000,000 × 17.75% = ₦17,750,000 Less 10% WHT: ₦17,750,000 × 10% = ₦1,775,000 Net interest: ₦17,750,000 – ₦1,775,000 = ₦15,975,000 (Your figure ₦15,756,000 is close — likely their compounding/rounding). Effective net yield: ~15.76% for the year. 3️⃣ Pros ✅ Capital safety (low risk compared to stocks, assuming Wema remains stable & insured under NDIC up to their limit). ✅ Upfront interest means you can reinvest or use it immediately. ✅ Predictable returns — no market volatility. ✅ Ideal if you believe stocks will underperform in the next 12 months. 4️⃣ Cons ⚠ Opportunity cost — If the stock market returns more than ~15.76% net over the year, you’d have earned more staying invested. ⚠ Inflation risk — If inflation is higher than your return, you’re losing purchasing power in real terms. ⚠ Liquidity lock — Your principal is tied up for 365 days unless you break the fixed deposit (which usually means forfeiting part of the interest). ⚠ Bank risk — While Nigerian banks are regulated, they’re not risk-free. For ₦100M, NDIC cover won’t protect all your funds (only ₦5M is insured). 5️⃣ Market context right now If NGX or specific blue-chip stocks could give you >16% net in 12 months (capital gains + dividends), leaving could be less optimal. But if you expect volatility, political/economic uncertainty, or possible losses in the stock market, a fixed deposit is a safe-haven play. If your main goal is capital preservation + guaranteed income, this is a solid move. If your goal is wealth growth and you believe in the stocks you hold, then locking ₦100M at ~15.76% might underperform compared to equity returns — but it removes all short-term risk. Locotrader: |

Locotrader:Current TB rates are between 15%-16.5%. Same with savings bond 15.7%-16.7% though for 2-3yrs. (Not 12 months.) The only area higher than your Wema-alert are FGN bonds(19%-20%)and they are longer tenor--5yrs+ Or Ponzi ![]() |

Loco, use the money to buy presco if you are very risk averse, presco will close the year atleast at 2k with atleast 50 dividend. Fixed income can never beat inflation in the next 5 Months. |

ceelog:I have enquired. Not up to that. Why I prefer Wema bank to other higher yields. 1. My money is accessible at Dashboard.I can monitor the progress without going to the bank. 2. Self service feature is enabled. In less than 2 minutes,I am done and the upfront interest paid within minutes. 3. I can use my principal to get what is called goal based loan at reduced rates even though the fund is locked for 365 days. Thank you |

ojeysky:My apologies if the phrase felt insulting. It was far from my intention sir. EPS is calculated from Earnings Divided by OS OS = 39,605,421,535.00 Profit from your attachment = 41,191,937,000 Earnings / OS = 41,191,937,000 / 39,605,421,535.00 = 1.04 for 3 months Annualized = 3months x 4 = 1.04 x4 = 4.17 approximately sir. I pray and sincerely hope you have been educated. Your apology is accepted even if you do not give one. My apologies for having made you feel insulted. Again, it wasn’t my intention sir. |
