What is it with Nigerian Fx reserve and $40 billion.
Since 2017, the fx reserve has been hitting $40 billion. Under Tinubu's regime, it has hit $40 billion over 3 times on the news. Na wa oh
Under Yaradua we had the highest of $53 billion saved. After his death there has been stagnation around $40 billion either intentional or not.

They need to give us some respect. Why always using the same format like we don't know anything anymore.
Watch and see, before the next election they will also come up with the same story: Naija fx hits $40 billion

The funny part is they are borrowing left, right and centre to window dress the reserve and be shouting stability of naira.
Why is the naira not appreciating if the growth of this reserve has been organic.

The regime has returned to naira defense.
They are comfortable around $40k. Hopefully, the reserve will rise significantly above that in the second tenure. I expect foreign inflow to slow down next year, preparatory to the 2027 elections

Not necessarily campaign. You can check the reserves movement everyday on the CBN website. So it was $62 Billion in ObJ’s time, but declined as he left and into the Yaradua era to $40 Billion. Jonathan declined it even further (despite having very high oil prices) to $28 Billion in 2015. Buhari raised it to $40 Billion in 2017 and even $45 Billion in 2019. After COVID, reserves went down to as low as $35 Billion as at May 2023.
Reserves are simply inflows and outflows. They rise and fall. When they are rising, it means exports, FDI’s and FPI’s or even foreign debt inflow are more than imports, FDI/FPI outflows and foreign debt servicing at that particular timeframe. The stronger the reserves, the stronger the capacity of the CBN to intervene in the FX market to keep the naira where they want it to be or to stabilise it.

Maybe the CBN is more interested in building reserves as a buffer first before strengthening the naira. Remember, CBN can also buy dollars away from the market rather than allowing it flow and stay in the market organically.

Strong reserves help the Government with foreign debt servicing which means we are very unlikely to default on our debts anytime soon. Ghana defaulted in 2022 because they had weak FX reserves compared to the debt they had to service then. Same goes for Ethiopia, Zambia, Argentina who have all defaulted and ran to the IMF.

To me, rising reserves are very important and one of the most important macro indicators. It means your economy has some kind of buffer against your foreign debt servicing (which usually takes away most of the dollars everyday alongside imports and FPI outflows)

Nobody ist doubting the news.
But the reports usually sounds sensational.
A sustained increase over a long period should be more celebrated than a fluctuated increase over a short period.
It shows resistance and guaranteed growth level.

It shouldn't decline to $39bn in next week and by December it climbs back to $41bn. Then it will he reported again as a massive improvement cheesy

This being a public forum means you can share to them. I am not sure you'd be breaking any law that I am aware of by doing so.

I don't think the brokers or the developer of that iTrade platform can do much about withdrawal period for sales that happen same day. I suppose the NGX, CSCS and other relevant stakeholders have to play a part in vetting and reconciling sales before final clients can have them in their accounts. Even those who use direct cash settlement don't receive the funds same day they sell.

As for depositing and withdrawing funds that have stayed T+3 days in clients' accounts, I believe they can do better.
I still think it's same to ask permission, public forum or not 😁

For withdrawals, traders like myself often have a significant portion of our portfolio as cash, so when we make withdrawal requests, they're not from shares sold on the given day, but rather from our existing cash balance, so that's the use case for making it instant.

I reached out to Atlass, they said the automated deposit and withdrawals is currently being integrated.

So let's see if they can roll it out before the end of the quarter.

This should probably make it available at Morgan too.

Yes, funds which have stayed T+3 should be made easy for instant withdrawal.

It's not necessary to strengthen the naira right now; maintaining stability is more important. Forcing appreciation could create instability and reverse recent gains. Sustained stability will, over time, move us closer to purchasing power parity with the dollar and help manage inflation.
