Like you rightly pointed out GEREGU resumed without the 10% drop...
Geregu would have dropped a couple of 10s if there were daily 1 time 100k buyers

I am not even talking about Nigerian govts alone. All over Africa and developing countries, all the progressive govts. do gradual, piece-meal, phased devaluation in order to be able to manage the dislocations. There is no country that did what the man in Abuja did (reckless floating and subsidy removalwink that has been able to recover and achieve purchase power parity with the dollar, as the earlier OP mentioned. It will not happen.
With a weak industrial base, we need to incentivize local producers to produce more. I expected the govt to ban importation of some non-essential items to reduce the pressure on the naira, and then do a gradual, piecemeal management of the exchange rate to avoid the harsh effects of a reckless floatation.
But ban of selected imported items was in
place from 2016 to 2023. It didn’t stop the slide of the naira in those years and only expanded the black market. This selective removal you talk about means little to nothing if your net reserves are low. The only way you can selectively remove is to borrow heavily from IMF like Argentina just did as they selectively removed their peg but they are on net negative reserves.

70B is alot for fidelity hmmm well I hope they can still pay at least ₦2 sth dividend like last time or sth close to it. Otherwise their share price may not go up much. They did not move in this bull market and they should know that any drastic reduction in dividend will dip their share price well
They need to pay about half of the profit to match that N2 dividend for last year.
I doubt if CBN will let them pay that much

What would you have done differently at the time he took over? Majority of Nigerians voted for the those immediate decisions he took when he took over. They endorsed those decisions by giving majority votes to all candidates who campaigned on those points. Candidates like Sowore etc who campaigned agaisnt those steps got little to no vote.
We can play politics of "he is not my candidate and so I must always antagonize him" but on a forum of supposedly enlightened folks like this, one who expect some truthful submissions devoid of such partisanship. Tinubu has shown leadership, he has demonstrated uncommon courage and put his political career on the line to prevent Nigeria from going down. Personally, I have no reason to look for any other person to vote for.

Exactly. This is where we were as at September 2023 when the naira was approaching over 1000/$ for the first time.
There was real scarcity of forex for businesses and we were going down already such that letters of credit for imports were already been rejected. We were thinking of selling our stakes in NLNG to raise $10 Billion at the time but that would have been tricky.
We needed to convince investors that monies trapped in Billions of dollars due to FX backlogs would be paid back in order to bring back FPI’s which were very low. At this point the FMDQ was getting an average of $30 million a day ( down from the usual $200 million a day). It was a crises and only heavy borrowing ($10 Billion and above) would have steadied the ship if we were to maintain an FX rate below 1000 at that stage.

If you buy BTC and there is no increase in price.

How are you going to make money when there is no increase in price?
This is not peculiar to XBT or it's class. Many asset go through flat periods.

I think Stanbic IBTC bank did some share buy back several years ago, and that is apparently contributing to their equity returns and high share price.
Some of the other banks may do same if they deem their outstanding shares to be too large in size.
Even Wema did few yes ago from a screenehot shared by @EDUECO few days ago

Bank stocks are the worst form of stocks to hold. They'll keep diluting your shares till what you own is an infinitesimal part of their outstanding shares, at which point you'll practically get next to peanuts even if they declare billions in profit.

Banks ought to buy back a part of their circulating shares during periods of surplus, to create shareholders value, but they won't because they're part of the scam monetary system that feeds off printing money to render people poor. That's why banks print new shares to sell each time they're given new capital requirements.

If you are looking for capital appreciation, avoid most nigerian stocks that have outstanding shares of over 40 billion or more.

You're better off owning commercial papers, treasury bills and government bonds.
Give them 2-3 yrs post 2026 recap deadline. they just might do a buy-back.
Wema bank did share reconstruction few yrs ago.

Please, does anyone know how long it usually takes to dematerialize stock? It’s been almost a month since I sent in my father’s certificate to Morgan's Capital and I don’t want to keep bothering them with follow-up emails. Also, will the average cost price remain the same after dematerialization, considering he bought the Presco shares at ₦10?”

I expect it will be unit for unit hence should have same value as current price of presco after conversion.

Demat of stocks doesn't have specific timelines, it depends on the registrars, cscs and sometimes the stockbroker because they are the one to initiate the process. It also depend on the shareholders details available to the registrars.

If you and your dad are here in Lagos a visit to the registrars could fast track the process.

Please note that demat of a stock doesn't have any effect on the price or value of the stock. The price of a stock is the current price on the floor of the NGX which depends on demand and supply among other things.

The current price of presco compare to the price your dad bought shows that investment in a good company can be tremendously rewarding over time.

We are very good at playing with fantastic rhetoric.
What ''recent gains'' have we achieved and how would strengthening the value of the naira create ''instability'' in a country that is heavily dependent on imports?
The only so called ''stability'' we have now is the near-total dislocation of the economy caused by the reckless floatation and devaluation of the naira from N550 to N1,550.
There would not be any purchasing power parity with the dollar as long as there is cost-push, import induced inflation, and a weak industrial base.
You say the country is heavily dependent on imports as if that must always be the case and policies must be formulated to accommodate that. So, how do you fund the imports?

I have followed this argument since it started and must agree with you that it is rather unfortunate when you read arguments of supposedly and presumably educated folks clearly devoid of logic and truth.

That is the stark reality my friend.

I begin to wonder, is it that politics deny us as a people our sense of reasoning ?

It might interest you to know that this arm or segment of Nairaland is to me where you can find the highest number of enlightened folks. I hope to be proved wrong sha.

Congratulations in advance if the Presco units are large.

If so, just do the following :
1. Go immediately and ask your neighbor both on the right and left how much they want to. sell their houses .

2. Get in touch with an IJEBU man to inquire about how to organize a re- beffiting burial for someone who died eons ago if your dad is late.

3. If the man is alive, buy goat and do Asun for him on his next birthday.

Thoughts on Transcorp power following the large volume trades in the last 2 trading sessions. I also opine on the possible benefits if/when receivables from the FG are paid.

What do you think of this?
Closed end debt funds usually do not have aggresive captial growth, so if you are more of stability and dividend, it might not be bad. I may be wrong though.
Other perspectives are Wellcome as I am also interested in the CNIF.
