If one should sell shares and make a profit (chargeable gain) of N200m, you pay tax of N47.9m to govt. going by the new tax law?
If you make the gain, why am I the one to pay the taxes?? 😁😁😁

Why did you frame the question like that?

Don't worry, you will make the gain and you will pay the tax. That is when you realize that this is a serious matter.
Hustlers are not smiling ooooo!

Yes, don’t go and dump your Oando, ooo. I think a possible loophole may be to reinvest the amount in the same year and then sell at a small loss — maybe around 4% (Or less). cheesy

I rather sell whatever I have and keep my profit than pay such tax to this kind of govt (let me keep quite for now).

There is a big commotion coming because of this new law unless there is better clarity before Jan 1

But thanks for the great suggestion

Royalex did not close green today.

Locotrader:
Today is another Friday just like last week which the market ended in green zone.

The market is now being captured by the activities of SWING TRADERS.When these set of traders are in the market, they create liquidity once or twice in a week to make stocks attractive for buying/selling.They have changed the Analogy of the market.Fridays has now become a greenish day instead of red.

Agba has missed his handle. It will take him sometime to recover it because he has failed to study the market instead he is chasing women.

Market ASI will be doing 140-143 this period till next earning season draws near.
The ASI will rise to 150 by year end and May rise to 200 if Dangote Reinery, fertilizer and some of the leading insurance companies in Nigeria list their shares at NGX before December. The rumour is there which will turn to news soon.

Today,Royalex will close in green zone.
It will end August at btw 2.20-2.25.Those who entered Royalex yesterday are winners for the week.Today is a recovery day for the week.

Swing traders have hijacked the market from the pessimists like Agba who want to drag the market below 140 for their new entry.

Go and learn how to swing trade.Market is not in a bear mode.Only those who understands the current mode will be making the money in the next 3-4 weeks. September is looking sweet for those who will interpret the current mode of the market.

Have a loving weekend ahead.

Which of the stock will be okay to invest in at the moment

‎My Response:

‎My brother, this is one of the most common questions people ask me in the Nigerian Stock Market space,
‎“Which stock should I buy now?”

‎But let me tell you the truth:
‎This same question has made thousands of Nigerians lose serious money in the past.

‎Why?
‎Because most people rely on guesswork.

‎Many so-called stock market “gurus” or “coaches” will just wake up one morning and tell you:
‎“Buy Dangote Cement now”
‎“Buy GTCO immediately”
‎“Zenith Bank will boom, rush it”

‎No analysis.
‎No breakdown of the company’s financial health.
‎No explanation of whether the company is actually growing or dying.

‎They just throw names around because they feel the price will go up. But that’s not investing, that’s PURE GAMBLING.

‎This is where I am different.

‎I’m not just a regular “investor.” I am:

‎A Financial Accountant in Training (so I live and breathe figures, facts, and financial statements).

‎An Entrepreneur (I have built and managed a real business, so I know how management decisions can make or break a company).

‎An Active Investor (I put my own money on the line, not just theory).

‎That means before I put one naira into a stock, I check plenty things that ordinary investors ignore.

‎I look at:
‎The Management: Who is running this business? Because I don’t gamble my money with strangers. If leadership is weak or corrupt, forget it.

‎The Budget & Operational Cost: Does the company have surplus cash flow or are they running at a deficit?
‎A business that can’t manage cost will eventually eat up shareholders’ money.

‎Debt Levels: Is the company over-borrowing?
‎Debt can finish a company faster than inflation.

‎Active Legal Battles: Very important. Many Nigerian investors have bought shares of companies already drowning in lawsuits and on the edge of liquidation. Later, when the company collapses, they run to Facebook crying “the stock market is a scam.”

‎No, my brother, the stock market is not a scam. You just didn’t do your homework.

‎Now, this is where my work comes in.

‎Very soon, I will start breaking down companies’ financial reports for you, line by line using:

‎Fundamental Analysis (profit growth, assets, liabilities, dividends, cash flow).

‎Technical Analysis (price charts, entry/exit points, market patterns).

‎For example, instead of shouting “buy First Bank shares”

‎I will:
‎Show you their last audited financial statement.

‎Explain if their profit after tax is growing or declining.

‎Reveal their dividend history so you’ll know if they reward investors consistently.

‎Check their debt ratio and ongoing cases.

‎Analyse the stock chart to know whether it’s the right time to enter or you’re buying at the peak.

‎That way, when you’re investing, you’re not guessing, you’re making an informed decision.

‎Let’s be real.
‎This is Nigeria. Many people entered the market years ago based on hype. Till today, their money is trapped because the “experts” who told them to buy never showed them the company’s actual financial health.

‎My style will never be sweet-mouthed hype.
‎I’ll show you why a stock is worth buying, and I’ll prove it with the company’s numbers.

‎That’s the difference between:
‎A regular investor that follows the crowd,
‎and

‎A Financial Accountant in training, an Entrepreneur, and an Active Investor who combines professional knowledge with real business experience.

‎So to answer your question, stay tuned.

‎Because when I start dropping these breakdowns, you won’t just know what stock to buy, you’ll understand:

‎Why you’re buying it,
‎The company’s 1-year growth plan,
‎And whether the management and financials truly deserve your money.

‎That is how true wealth is built in the Nigerian Stock Market, not by guesswork, but by understanding the numbers, the people, and the strategy behind the company.

Extracted from GPT.

Here’s how it works under the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA), 2025, effective January 1, 2026 :

---

Key Takeaways:

1. Capital Gain Exemption Thresholds

If your proceeds from share disposal are less than ₦150 million, and your chargeable gain is ₦10 million or less, then the gain is exempt from capital gains tax (CGT) for that 12-month period .

2. Marginal Personal Income Tax Rates Apply

If your gain exceeds those thresholds, the gain would be taxed at your personal income tax rate, with a top marginal rate of 25% .

3. In Your Case – ₦1 Million Gain

₦1 million is well within the ₦10 million exemption threshold, and the proceeds are also far below ₦150 million. This means you would not pay any CGT or PIT on that gain.

---

Summary Table

Scenario Tax Payable

Gain: ₦1 million (below ₦10 million), proceeds < ₦150 million 0% — Exempt
Gain exceeding thresholds Personal income tax, up to 25% marginal rate.

From this expose and my layman's interpretation, less than #150m proceed threshold is exempted from CGT.
Is this not good for the stock market?
Am I mistaken?

Shoudn't be less than N154.30 (official closing price on 30th July) if the rules will apply.

Logically, taxing the same profit in the hands of investor looks likes double taxation.

You can tax my business profit and still tax me for pulling it out. Abi there is regulation that the profit must remain in the business?

Forget the names, look at it fundamentally.
You make a point.

It is even ''triple taxation'':
You pay PAYE on income; plus
1. CIT on company tax,
2. WHT on dividend from PAT;
3. and CGT on traded shares of the same company
Is CIT not the difference between PBT & PAT?
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by chimex38: 3:32pm On Aug 29, 2025
At what point do the government pay back WHT to individuals or Company.? undecided
especially if the entity or client isn't indebted with PIT,CIT, CGT, etc. huh

You too are one of the ''billionaires''. Once you are focused and keep investing wisely, consistently in the NGX, you would be surprised that one stroke of info or luck or events in some particular stocks could make you a billionaire. It may take a few years, but it is very possible.

Me and you dey inside together. You never know?

Very soon you will understand my plight and others with similar concerns!
One day, monkey go go market, im leg go hang for basket! grin grin

What is calming my nerves for now, is that there are big time investors, multi-billionaires and trillionaires in the NGX, and I don't think they would lie low and allow themselves to be cheated the way I am seeing it, so we wait and see.

Not quite 😁
Every law has a loop hole.
The reinvest clause here works for me 😁😁.
Again scenarios are different.

Some people have expenses that are 20x mine.

What if they didn't include the clause, it wouldn't have been funny at all.

Pay them 20% average tax rate for whathuhhuh?

Thinking further on
taking double tax from PBT
and CGT.

I think the point here is, ones pulled out profit is being replaced by another person who bought same no of shares
(inclusive of your profit margin).
In essence,
The company isn't taxed twice.

My own issue is reimbursement of WHT on dividend or debt instruments.

There should be a time frame to "withhold" such tax.
Shouldn't be indefinite.

To all newbies investors

The bargain season is here, it will be more interesting in sept and October.

Accumulate dividend growth stocks gradually at bargain prices, I loaded more Zenith at 66.50 today.

Don't be in a haste to buy all at once, the days ahead may present better bargain prices.

NAHCO is still stubborn to go below 103, waiting to take more below 103.

Aradel train is also patiently waiting for everyone, once the insider presently selling heavily is done the movement go loud cool.

This is not a financial advise, just the opinion of an investor.
