Global oil consumption in 2024(Million barrels per day)
It's a matter of when not if. Global oil consumption would slowly fall off. China per usual would likely be the first to make a major impact going off how the oil consumption in that country have started to stall.Next step, slow to sharp fall in coming years.

So far China energy projection is looking at cutting off about 10 million barrels per day from it's consumption in 2 decades. My money would be probably by end of the next decade at the current rate they are moving. The question becomes what industry in alternative energy space is able to build it's capacity to ensure it absorb that much capacity?

Three sectors that should absorb the crude oil and derivative demand while switching to clean energy (using china as a base case) :
I. Electric Vehicles; from agriculture to every facet of logistics you can think of. Aviation industry may be a tough nut to crack (Palm kennel oil as sustainable fuel may be a serious contender)
II. Wind, solar,
III.Nuclear
IV. Honorable mention metallurgical coal.
The approach for searching for areas to invest is to look into public companies in industries listed above for opportunities, we may be unto something. Time would tell.

Is it also the only bank with negative shareholders funds?

From ChatGpt

📌 What Happens to Unity Bank’s Negative Shareholders’ Funds

1. Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Bailout
• CBN has provided a ₦700 billion support package to clean up Unity Bank’s balance sheet.
• ₦303.7 billion → to clear Unity’s obligations (bad debts, liabilities).
• ₦392.3 billion → invested in a 20-year FGN bond, counted as Tier-2 capital for the new ProvidusBank.

👉 This effectively neutralizes the negative shareholders’ funds, because the bailout fills the hole in Unity’s books.

2. ProvidusBank as Surviving Entity
• After the merger, Unity Bank ceases to exist, so its negative equity doesn’t carry forward on paper.
• Instead, all assets, liabilities, and obligations are absorbed by ProvidusBank, but with the CBN funds cushioning the impact.

3. Scheme of Arrangement
• By law, a scheme of arrangement ensures shareholders aren’t left carrying a bankrupt balance sheet.
• The cash/share offer (₦3.18 or 18-for-17 swap) reflects the restructuring:
• If you take cash, you’re paid out directly from funds provided for the transaction.
• If you take shares, you join ProvidusBank, which now has fresh capital support to stay compliant.

4. Effectively “Wiped Off”
• The negative shareholders’ funds are absorbed, written off, or restructured through the merger, so shareholders don’t directly bear them after the merger.
• But: this also explains why Unity Bank shareholders are not getting a higher payout — the bank had no positive book value; it’s CBN’s intervention making the deal possible at all.

✅ In simple terms: Unity’s negative shareholders’ funds are being cleaned up by CBN and won’t follow you into Providus. The ₦3.18/share offer is a “rescue exit” price, not a reflection of true positive equity.

I was only saying there's a reason it was the cheapest banking stock.

I have no interest in how the acquisition is effected whatsoever.

By the way, you guys should reduce the rate at which you quote AI, you guys seem to quote it without realizing it makes up junk atimes and present as fact, cos it's basically got no clue what it's talking about, it's all just statistics of the most probable words that'll form coherent sentences.

nex:
AFOLAYAN SAMUEL OLAJIDE, a substantial shareholder at The Initiates Plc (TIP) is doing the same thing again right now. He is selling off large chunks of his old stocks in order to buy new ones.

Let me try to explain within my limited knowledge of the stock market and trading, which I have been studying for decades, but just started practising in 2025.

T.I.P is about to do a rights issue, which will allow current holders of their ordinary shares the right to buy more new shares at a discounted price. The price of TIP shares today is N11.60 so let's say shareholders are offered the right to buy one new share at N5 for every old share they already have.

If this man has 10 million shares, he can decide to sell off 5 million of his shares in order to get enough cash for him to buy up new 10 million shares, making his total shares 15 million. Of course, share price will dip during the period of transaction, but he seems sure that the price will rise back above N10 per share, or even higher.

The Initiates Plc is the only waste management company listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NGX.
There's nothing good about a company that pays a dividend of 1% when actual inflation and interest rate is close to 30%. If you didn't buy the stock when it's price was ₦2, avoid it. Downside risk is not a joke.

Is everything about dividend in investing?

If you build a house, you'd hope for the price to appreciate (land and house). But in the meantime, you'll need rent to maintain the house and also do one or two things. If the rent isn't coming in then the house is useless. You're better off putting your money in a long term government bond where you get at least 17% annually.

If you are a good business person or financially smart, you can deploy that funds into a venture that will get you at least 50% annually (above inflation rate).

Stocks that don't pay good dividend are like houses that don't give you rent or money you put in a savings account in Nigeria. Inflation will wipe off the value of your money. God help you if the company is poorly managed and goes bankrupt. Your capital is gone. Good and consistent dividend paying stocks will ALWAYS appreciate in price over time. Stocks that don't pay dividend or pay poor dividend MAY appreciate. The wise person will go for ALWAYS.

On point! It's becoming too common that it's hard to distinguish verified facts from misleading information. Some AI analysis posted here use data from sources that are inaccurate or not updated.
