Audacius:
In my opinion, it was the case that the CDMA technology on which those companies were founded was poised against GSM and GSM won. All the CDMA tech companies had no choice but to close shop despite investments. Maybe regulation made it difficult or impossible to transform from CDMA license to GSM if that was the license you obtained. They must have seen the signs and should have transformed.

The Closed User Group (CUG) of CDMA seemed an answer to high cost of phone calls then. You paid a monthly fixed fee on a line and each member of the CUG could talk freely and unlimitedly to members within the group. Everybody must pay. There was a coordinator. Maybe a precursor of sort to the whatsapp group. Lol. It was the literal wireless intercom. Useful for companies and groups. I think they required a certain number to register. Maybe 30 or so. (I think Glo was also doing same later).

By the time per second billing became a thing across all network, Econet (Airtel), MTN, GLO, and phone use grew, CUG wasn't that viable for the CDMA companies anymore as usage must have gradually shrinked. Another factor was that then, you could not just buy a phone and plop in a CDMA sim. The likes of starcomms sold phones with the sim. You chose from whatever was being offered. Though good durable phones that matched the standard of the time, the coming of new ranges of Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson with their trendy, sleek designs that were adapted to GSM technology, offered more options and competition.

All this even predate the iphone - android "war". The stack was against them. CDMA still exists though but I guess not in Nigeria where even landline seem obsolete.
Reason why I said they did not adapt.

FCMB, First Bank, Diamond Bank, Leadway Assurance, Lagos State government, Akwa Ibom state government, Delta Government were pioneer investors in Airtel and MTN, what stops those Telecommunications companies from buying shares in MTN and Airtel when they were established

As long as people are not ready to respect others' choice of stock, there will always be gbasgbos.

When person was recommending eti as the best new thing, the price keeps doing gbelogbebo till now, another hawked aradel, transpower but what happen? The same story. the same people will do plenty analysis why they felt a stock choice of another person is bad, some even criticized people saying buy with patients funds. None of the critics have ever come out to say sorry for misleading people even when it's obvious they were wrong.

I have seen ogg come here to drop recommendation and come to pass but bad belle will still come here and say there was no time frame that anybody could have done that. Since they chased him away, we are yet to see their recommendations with time frame.

Despite ogg showing plenty workings why he thinks there is a value in a particular stock, the bad belle no gree allow am stay here in peace. undecided

Ogg, na man you be.. cool

Double standard everywhere.

There's no rule tying them.
Companies can pick any par value not less than 50k.

The existing rule (about par value) says that if the par value is 50k, the SP can fall [and trade] below 50k.
However, If the par value is above 50k, the SP cannot be traded below the par value.
e.g. Mansard and NEM are currently ₦2 and ₦1 resp. ARADEL was ₦10 before they listed on the NGX... smiley
Thank you for the clarification.

I always say that anyone who has experienced how some hitherto ''poorly rated'' stocks have turned around to deliver huge gains, sometimes more 2000%-4000% within few months would not condemn any stocks.
Wema, Ikeja Hotels, Honeywell, IB, Nahco, Learn Africa, MBA, NEM etc are all examples.
Part of the problem is because some of us want to arrogate to ourselves or create the impression that we have knowledge of everything and all possibilities about some stocks, which is false..

Who would have believed a few months ago that NEM Ins could be selling at N30+ today?

They cannot adapt because the GSM(Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) licence is for the FEW BIG PLAYERS with national coverage.
That GSM(Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) licence gave them massive leverage over smaller CDMA telcos.

No CDMA company can get the Licence, even VISAFONE, which came later, was bought over by MTN.

You guys can be fighting your stock picks/recommendations war. That's normal. What is not Normal is putting out incorrect information. Nobody chased OGG away. He was canversing for customers and trying to divert members to his group where he offered paid service. Even though that was not in anyway a crime/offence, it negates the whole essence of this thread.

He stopped commenting either because he has had enough customers to sustain his paid services or because he was no longer getting more customers from here. Nobody chased him away because of his stock picks.

Also, please beware that no matter how accurate your picks and predictions are there will always be people with contrary opinions. Infact even God that created the Heaven and earth human still go contrary to his commands. The only difference between the people that fronted/marketed aradel and transpower with those in Ellahlake and Oando is the emotions and intolerance attached with Oando/ellah fans nothing more.

Hope you remember MTN bought the defunct VGC Telecoms for some tens of millions of dollars

They could have also invested at least $1 million each, when MTN and Airtel needed roughly $300 million to start business in Nigeria.

They would have made over 20 times of that in dollars

MTN bought VGC Telecoms for $70 million in 2006.

Yet VGC Telecoms was not the biggest player in that sector.

Other players were approached but they preferred to hold on to their businesses.

I will rather own 1% of a big and quality company, than owning 100% of a struggling and mediocre company
