Well, if the food was too expensive, maybe should have eaten elsewhere or cooked your own food.

As for the African stores abroad... If they don't get their acts together, they will soon be out of business.

The complaints online are really unbecoming.

Yam grows in south USA and Caribbean, its not just restaurants, tell me why Chinese restaurants and supermarkets are way cheaper than Nigerian supermarkets and restaurants.
Africa is closer to USA than China so don't bring that import export rubbish
Don't mind that illiterate 😂😂, saying blah blah blah blah blah, it annoys me when people don't know and still claim they know.
Yes, true yams are planted and grown in the United States, though they are less common than the orange-fleshed sweet potatoes that are often mislabeled as "yams" in U.S. markets. People grow yams for food in the U.S.
Re: Man Calls Out African Food Sellers In America Over Expensive Pounded Yam & Egusi by NotOfThisWorld(f):
Many of those soups will be loaded with salt and pepper too. The last pounded yam with soup (okro soup) I bought earlier this year from this restaurant tasted like it was cooked with a gallon of salt, not to mention the excessive pepper. It was so bad. Then I found no pounded yam in the bag (I called them and apparently they had forgotten to put it in the bag). Idk who they're trying to injure with salt and pepper. I had to go on Google and give them a bad review, as that was not the first time I found their soups to be excessively salty and peppery, and this time it was even more unbearable to eat. I was just drinking water and water, and could only eat a little from it before throwing it out. I've stopped going to Nigerian restaurants since, and make my own pounded yam and soups at home. It's not as if I can't cook. Most Nigerian restaurants cook rubbish.

This same thing this dude is complaining about is what’s ruining your economy, overpricing of commodities once the demand is high.

Nigerians often attribute the high cost of food to Tinubu's leadership, while in America, Nigerians tend to blame their compatriots for the high price of a plate of pounded yam and egusi. grin It's essential to acknowledge that not every hardship faced in Nigeria is the direct result of Tinubu's actions or policies. Nigerians themselves contribute to certain difficulties, yet they often shift the blame to their leaders, such as Tinubu, rather than acknowledging their own roles in perpetuating these issues.

Peace!

Most African store owners are crooks. I do buy 8lb of garri for 32 Cad or so. recently, I bought 50lb for 60Cad from someone else.
When I lived in UK, ate UK food.
I live in Nigeria now. I eat Nigerian food.
I can't be stressing myself to eat Nigerian food in abroad country.
It is an import for overseas people and will definitely be more expensive
than local abroad food.
Apple tree grew in front of my house. I didn't even know it was apple tree.
Until the day this thing fruited 100s of apples.
I just carry stick dey pluck dey put inside bag dey go. I no send anybody papa.

The African restaurants don’t have many customers that’s why they charge so high. KFC or McDonald’s may have thousands of customers in a day while the Nigerian restaurant may have just 20 or 50 serious customers during the day.

So KFC can afford to charge so little while the Nigerian restaurants have to make back their money by charging really high prices.

Its not just expensive; this is extortional!

No dey support rubbish abeg.

===============

Some Nigerian vendors know Nigerians crave all these things; hence sell at exorbitant rates as if in Nigeria. U can observe this behaviour even in Nigeria. We are simply wicked to ourselves. Everything no be politician cause am.

Pondo yam is just $23. What is evn painful is that these restaurants are not selling natural pounded yam o. Its still the artificially processed Pondo yam they're selling, yet so expensive.

Enyin Americans, e pele o! 1 plate + egusi no suppose pass $20. WTF!!!
This is still N30,000 for a plate of Pando and Egusi soup that we saw in the picture. its not more than N6,000 here in Nigeria

Africans, most especially Nigerians have follow come wickedness. They take advantage of every opportunity to rip you.

Don't be surprised they will reduce the price if a white man enters to buy same portion of food and even be forming being nice to them....... Immediately they see an African the wickedness and greed in them will activate.

Nigerian foods are the most expensive in restaurants in the UK.
The thing is that for all other foodstuffs from other places excluding Africa, there is food subsidy.
Examples are grapes. A friend told me( Poland), that her country export grapes to uk but grapes are cheaper in uk than Poland.
Foodstuffs are extremely cheap here except those from africa.
Plantain, mackerel and meat are not expensive cos african shop get them from elsewhere except Africa. So also dry fish. But see other things from Africa, they are expensive.

Indian shops sell african foodstuffs now and they are cheaper. I wonder if they buy from diff places.

I think it's more a thing of making a statement.
McDonalds were determined to SPREAD their burger around the WHOLE country...
To make everybody participate in the AMERICAN junk food culture.
That's the mission. That's why it's as cheap as possible.
KFC just trying to one-up McDonalds.
Well, then, go ahead spread it round.
Both eateries have overseas branches... Because they want to spread their mission to all countries.
-
Nigerian shop don't want to spread. They just want to make a quick buck.
and are now stressing the living daylights out of the only few customers they have.

And our food is strange to them too, the one sold in America are from Africa, I've never been in UK so I can't talk about what i don't know, and I can talk about only what i know. So you are the ignorant here. The sweet potatoes here is even different from what we are used to back home.

Go to Chile or Ecuador and see 80% of African foodstuffs on their farmland.
They have all those things, the difference is mode of preparation.
The way Africans take yam might be different from theirs but these ingredients are surplus there. You can't even import them.

I just stated that.
Noticed that sometime ago. Ditched my african shop customer of years. The lady don call tire.
I go online, compare prices and buy my stuff.
They are now kind of begging for customers.

The day I need meat, butcher stall here I come.
Garri is cheaper in Tesco. So also nigerian beers.

A colleague told me so and their garri look well processed than the non'sense you get from some african shops

Rebuker:
A Nigerian man has taken to social media to vent his frustration, calling out African food sellers in America for what he described as “outrageous prices.” According to him, he was charged a staggering $140 for just two plates of Egusi soup and small portions of pounded yam.

Expressing his anger, he lamented that African food sellers deliberately inflate prices, especially when selling to fellow Nigerians. “Tell me why I have to pay $40 excluding tax and tips for a plate of Egusi and small pounded yam that can’t even fill me up? Other people sell theirs for less than $15, and you are charging $40,” he complained.

The man explained that during his visit to an African restaurant yesterday, he was billed $140 for two plates of Egusi and pounded yam. When he demanded a breakdown, he was told the actual price per plate was $40, with additional charges for tax and tips.

Shocked, he questioned the sellers: “$40 for a plate of food, not gold?”

Vowing to take action, he declared that he would start exposing Nigerian food vendors who charge above $20 per plate. He added that even the $20 price tag should only apply if the restaurant has a fancy setting and a prime location.

Still venting his frustration, he asked: “Are you people the only ones who need money? Don’t others need money too?”

He further explained that many Africans in America are not eating local dishes simply because they lack options, but because they genuinely want to support their own people and help African-owned businesses thrive.
