The capital gain tax nonsense by this govt is what would kill this NGX if care is not taken.
Revenue to govt has quadrupled but they still have nothing to show for it, yet they want to steal from investors through CGT

They need to bear in the risk too. If I make a 100m, dem go collect 25. If I lose 50m, I should be able to write it into future tax otherwise it doesn't make sense

Sounds great and could work as a kind of tax rebate.

Ideally, that should be it.
But I strongly doubt if it would be like that. How about those who had been making losses for years and not yet recovered? And even making a paltry N150m gain in a year taxable.
I just hope the law would not take effect or be implemented because it would cause huge capital flight from NGX and the country at large.

They also pay Capital Gain Tax in advanced markets.

I don't think you will be subjected to CGT if you sell after a year

Lol grin
You want to start comparing us with advanced markets? Please don't start.

Are they going to isolate each stock one sells and calculate N150m gain on each one separately, or they would put everything in a basket and calculate N150m gain?

Funny enough it traded at some of the highest prices in weeks today.

I exited at between 419 to 429.

It didn't do above 420 for weeks until today.

When it seemed all was becoming well with it, voila 😁😁😁

We await another trip at 395 - 400.

I previously mentioned the confusion surrounding CGT and how it is negatively affecting the market, though I was rebutted. I sincerely hope that the FG, CBN, NGX, and all other relevant bodies will come out to clearly explain how these policies will impact the market going forward. Sweeping issues under the carpet is no longer acceptable, as people are now more informed. This is my candid opinion.

kintus:
As part of what I think can help the market recover fast at a time like is further clarity on the tax proposal

Affirmation that such taxes won’t impact earnings significantly could offer relief, especially for banks.

Stanbic bank did well in their interim dividend.......
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Streetinvestor2: 3:15pm On Sep 24, 2025
They collect 70% from banks forex gain without considering the shareholders in some of this.banks who have not been benefiting anything reasonable as dividend all this yrs.
That money would have given us some kind of special dividend.
Now they want to collect 25% as CG T after u have laboured mentally to make the gains.
They are not satisfied with the looting they are doing from other revenues.
Unless God is wicked to allow them beyond 2027.They will never see shishi from me from CGT if it means not trading on my portfolio till they leave office
If not that WHT is removed from source. They won't see it to collect from me..lol

I would dig further but I think I have heard Taiwo Oyedele say there are exemptions. The problem with information on this new tax laws generally is that people prefer to listen to influencers and non tax experts and then ignore Taiwo and the FIRS guys who are all over the place answering questions and explaining.

“There is an exemption threshold raised: for sale of shares in Nigerian companies, the gross proceeds threshold is now ₦150 million in any 12 consecutive months.
Also, gains do not exceed ₦10 million in that period may qualify under the exemption”.
“For individuals, CGT continues but will be taxed at the individual’s applicable income tax rate (“progressive tax band”) rather than a flat 10%”.

That company is funny joor.

You make N2.5trn in revenue, but only manage to keep N140bn as earnings, na so diesel costhuh

The employees are the actual ones enjoying more than the retail share holders.

Company that makes N100bn in revenue weekly, you still see them floating CPs of N100bnhuh?

Like what's happening? For a company whose business is mostly prepaid??

They shouldn't be having any reasons for not halving their current finance cost.

I think DANGCEM is more likely to be Upgraded.

There's a session at the NGX in 46+ hours.

Mr Taiwo himself is coming to clarify things.

My own is sha for him to confirm that reinvestment clause.

With that, I won't have any business at all with CGT.
