Another excerpt from the link which is a concern. While optimistic, experts warned of potential challenges in aligning tax authority infrastructure with market participant technology, particularly in the capital market. Mr. Saheed Bashir, MD of Meristem Stockbrokers Limited, shared concerns about the impact of the CGT increase from 10% to 30% for retail investors, which may initially affect liquidity and transaction frequency. However, he acknowledged that the long-term effect would likely see greater market participation from retail investors, especially if the gains are reinvested into Nigerian entities. I think the link addresses most of the gray areas from experts. Its left for us to restrategise. |

I wonder how many of us are contending that to keep reinvesting profits in order to escape the crushing taxes, after meeting the 150m/10m portfolio/gains threshold is a solution. My question is, Is it not crazy after meting this threshold, only to keep reinvesting without withdrawing your gains for capital and recurrent expenditure? After expending your physical and mental resources for years and having as much as 150m or more in your portfolio, yet, all you can do is, keep reinvesting! Reinvesting for whom? Do you have control over your life span? Why the hell were you investing in the first place? To invest in order to keep reinvesting?! Is this not a curse? If I met this threshold, by Nigerian standard, I'm rich. So, how do I enjoy my money? Have I not been investing in order to enjoy the fruit of my labour? We got to resist or find a way around this proposed obnoxious economic slavery. I don't think leaving my money with the brokers and living in deprivation is the solution. |

Toluway:I don't want to believe that you have not exceeded that threshold of N150 million |

Stockhunter:U have said nothing. They are going back to calculate CGT since nigeria got independence or what yr will be the starting point. Or u don't know thr are holdings as old as the ngx still operational. Tell me the starting point is what i want to hear if u feel I am not informed or emotional. If i could have holdings of 25 yrs in my portfolio. Then thr are people of holdings as old as ngx So they will be calculated as far back as 25 yrs.U want me to believe that rubbish. The two stock brokers I started with then have equally closed shop and I moved the stocks to new brokers. I have the cost price because I kept recorded documents for them. The cost price with the new broker is when it got transferred to them.I have ucapital bought at .90kobo but showing different thing in Morgan capital. |

Toluway:I think the suspicion is that for example, if you sell in December and you made a kill. You can reinvest in january or febr. make small gain or breakeven, then you can move your money because you will only report for the new year which you have made little profit. I hope this is correct understanding |

Toluway:Funny enough some of us have been doing what u stated because we have other active income and only enjoy dividend from stock. We still reinvest over 50% of the dividend back with additional capital. We saw it like rent income some families have held as old as nigeria. That is why I said they will only see WHT for people like me.We are building generational wealth on ngx and making room for dividend to enjoy. If u have target of 100 million dividend and above for retirement. I believe u will be alright in nigeria if God gives u grace of good health |

emmanuelewumi:Let forget all the noise about how people mention millions and billions here. For someone starting out on his own as a salary earners without no inheritance from the parents, achieving a threshold of N150 million is not a joke. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Toluway: 2:02pm On Sep 28, 2025 |
Streetinvestor2:That is because you still want to continue to expand your portfolio aggressively. Hopefully, my dividends would be enough to finance my capital and recurrent expenditure. But unlike you, why should I continue to invest for generations yet unborn?😁 |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by emmanuelewumi(m): 2:26pm On Sep 28, 2025 |
Agbalowomeri:It depends on why you investing. Some invest in order to retire early or build wealth. You get a side hustle to pay bills, you invest because of your financial future and to age gracefully |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Toluway: 2:27pm On Sep 28, 2025 |
Streetinvestor2:Not like that. Even persons who are not related to me have been enjoying my money, even when I had much less than what I have now. What I'm saying is that I would not continue to invest indefinitely. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Toluway: 2:33pm On Sep 28, 2025 |
Toluway:I know I should continue to invest for the rest of my day sha, but there should be a limit. Henceforth, I would be eating up all my dividends. Even if I have to be traveling to a Brazilian beach on vacation. |

Toluway:U get what I am saying na only WHT dey go they chop. All dividend will now be kept out of reinvest going forward instead na MMF or savings account e go dey for my flexing. It equally requires rebalancing of portfolio too. Thank God I started it earlier this yr with 8% targeted cash flow from investment portfolio |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by emmanuelewumi(m): 2:55pm On Sep 28, 2025 |
Agbalowomeri:You only need to start with a monthly investment of N26,500 per month 25 years ago, then increase your monthly investment by 10% every year under the assumption that your portfolio grows by an average of 15% for the next 25 years. N150 million is possible

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Agbalowomeri: 3:07pm On Sep 28, 2025 |
emmanuelewumi:Has NGX grown consistently for 15 years in the past 25 years? How much was minimum wage in year 2000? 26k then was more than 50% salary of almost all SENIOR civil servants. Hypotheses are easier to formulate than practice ![]() |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Agbalowomeri: 3:12pm On Sep 28, 2025 |
Agbalowomeri:Minimum wage for states in year 2000 was N5,500 and FG N7,500. Meaning 80% of civil servants wouldn't even earn above your proposed 26k |
