Has NGX grown consistently for 15 years in the past 25 years? How much was minimum wage in year 2000? 26k then was more than 50% salary of almost all SENIOR civil servants.

Hypotheses are easier to formulate than practice grin
In my circle there are people who started their investment journey in the year 2000 with just N5000.

Amyn Investment was the only Stockbroking firm that accepted as low as N5000, while the likes of CSL Stockbrokers needed 250k, Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers then needed N1 million.

I brought quite a number of newbies to Amyn Investment between 2000 and 2005, whose portfolio sizes are well over N100 million. These were average people, some were students at that time .

The most important thing in this business is consistency

The average compounded annualized growth rate of NGX in 25 years is 13.5%, when you add dividend reinvestment you will get more than that

Even with the present minimum wage of 70k, how many civil servants can conveniently save 26k in a month for investment.
Not to mention the fact that this same set of people will want to buy car, build house in the course of those years or where will the money for those things come from.
Though not saying it isn't possible but it will be a difficult one.

Do we still have people who don't have side hustles in Nigeria?

Good to start with one stream of income and increase to a minimum of 3 streams within 10 years

"On the thorny issue of cost determination, Oyedele stated that the purchase price at the time of acquisition remains the reference cost, even if the shares were bought several years ago.

He admitted this creates distortions because inflation makes historical costs “almost unreflective of real value,” while proceeds look bigger in nominal terms.

“We recognize that this looks unfair, but this is a temporary problem due to the adjustment period,” he said."

They want to start stealing from people's sweat in the NGX through CGT. Now they want to calculate cost and profit based on shares that people bought many years ago.
People who are unable to give account of the resources they have ben given now want more.

I said it before that Access is just taking one for a ride. With all these acquisitions, nothing tangible to show for it. Imagine Access being at the lowest level of the ladder when compared with 11 other banks listed on the exchange. Their H1 2025 result will determine what Access holds for me. My policy had always been get out out of any share that is not yielding result. After all, am just an investor not the owner. cool

I think the suspicion is that for example, if you sell in December and you made a kill. You can reinvest in january or febr. make small gain or breakeven, then you can move your money because you will only report for the new year which you have made little profit. I hope this is correct understanding

A few stocks I'd be watching closely this week on the NGX.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Raider76: 7:45pm On Sep 28, 2025
I think it is more like if you sell in December you then have to reinvest in that December to avoid paying the tax. Once you cross into January holding the cash then you are liable.

I have a question on this N150m threshold. Is it the size of one's portfolio or total turnover in one's trading account over the one year period? Because if it is turnover then people who JIJO frequently can easily have a N150m turnover in 12 months even when their actual portfolio is much below that. With turnover each transaction (buy or sell) is counted.

I supposed this has supported all we have been saying and also added another dimension to the escape route some of us were having about channeling the sales funds to the fixed income space.

Anyways it's the high net worth guys that will feel it more amd should be mostly concerned .

Those on top of the food chain like Agba and oga Emma should be concerned. As for me, shishi they will not get from me

Most players aren't just gonna exit na, so we should be good.

Even ACA, If they plug the proceeds back to FIDELITY or SEPLAT, Their gains won't be tax chargeable.
Unfortunately that’s not how Private Equity works, since they have exited an investment, they would have to return to their LPs .
