Think of First Registrars who don't have a functional phone number. I'm sure they're trying to cut cost and they've fired the customer service personnel who should handle such tasks.
First Regustrars don suffer!

He's an RCCG pastor. I just googled. The event was organized by RCCG City of David Branch for their members..

If he pays CGT on a total volume of N120m, what then is the essence of the N150m threshold?
My understanding:
Capital(Cost price) =148m
Turnover(sale price) = 150m
Gain= 2million
Tax on turnover: 30%
despite 1million gain, tax =CGT of 30% applies rather than applicable PIT rate-band of 15% on the 2million cuz you surpassed and grossed the 150m turnover threshold if I am not mistaken undecided

Yes. RCCG pastor organised it but for all Nigerians not for religious members alone hence secular in nature.
The essence of his presence is to use the simplest of things to enlighten and interpreted the already passed tax laws. -In this case, what "services" are included or not in the tax law.
He was there as a tax expert as well as associate Prof of Babcock university amongst others not as a Pastor.

He wasn't there to impose, "make-legitimate" or legalize prostitution..

It's left for the appropriate bodies and agencies in Nigeria to legalize or illegalize the act or service. Nor his job description.

In his next Sunday service or weekly service, as a Pastor which you confirmed he is, he can condemn the act as much as possible.

Me I think it's even better they tax them heavily sef to discourage the act grin
Otherwise everybody go go there go hide loot to evade or avoid tax grin

Epistle according to Chimex.. shocked
RCCG organized the programme for its members but outsiders were not barred. I can assure you that the regular praise and worship, prayer session etc were probably included in the programme. Na church programme first and foremost grin
As for taxing them heavily to stop the act, you sound like those who advocated increase in petrol price to stop smuggling to neighbouring countries grin

As for fuel price increase, that affects everyone
(counter productive), but heavy taxation can be narrowed down to specific services.

Programme organized by their RCCG Network Business club within the church doesn't mean it's a church(religious) programme.

From the link below:

On capital gains, Oyedele said if what an individual sells at the capital market in a year is not more than N150 million and the gain is not more than N10 million, no tax will be paid, stressing that the new rules were intentionally designed to be progressive in all manners.

“The current system of capital gains will charge you at 10 percent. Those gains are isolated regardless of your losses. Under the new regime, we net off first, so gains less losses. When you end up with a net gain, we then have a conversation about whether you should pay tax. If those gains still make you a low-income earner, you will not pay anything – zero percent,” he said.

You said you wanted to discourage prostitution by heavy taxation... That's what I said is akin to increasing fuel price to discourage smuggling to neighbouring countries. Why not just enforce the relevant laws to stop the vice or crimehuh It's not rocket science. Taxing them heavily is by implication recognizing the trade, dude!
You yourself said the man said he wasn't sure if he should refer to the prostitute scenario "in a church".. na you take your mouth talk am. Networks Club is a Christian body. RCCG is a Christian body. Outsiders were not barred but essentially for their members.
p.s. There was opening and closing prayer and they gave praises to the christian God during the prayers. Abi did you see them saying Muslim prayer there? grin

OK. I now grab your angle on the smuggling matter, however, I have answered it previously; taxing them heavily is on the Tax man's place.(that's the most he could do)
But not in his jurisdiction to abolish or uphold the profession.
Yes RCCG Business network.
The affiliation of the organizers didnt determine the nature of the programme in this case.
To probably honor the hosts and apply sensitivity, he made the caveat and also prayers were said opening and closing all in honor of host and in reverence of the venue as a place worship.

I bet if I come to ur village to speak on investing on NGX, I might probably have to prostrate to greet your trad leaders, dress in your native regalia and even speak some native language where necessary if I can just to honor and respect you and village as the host. I would probably use a caveat to apologize for not being able to speak in your dialect where it should have been necessarily cheesy just as the tax man did.

But my talk on investing in NGX is not your traditional community Programme.
and it's also for members outside your community, even people from Pluto and Jupiter can enter your community, participate, ask questions and attend without barrier grin

I am only trying to make my own interpretations.
By turnover, I mean addition of both Capital at beginning of the year(148m) PLUS gain at the end of the yr(2million).
If sold by end of the year amounts to 150m. Triggering CGT of 30% rather than PIT on 2million.

Maybe na the wrong terminology i use.

I don't know how strong the AND word is binding
to both 150m AND 10million

Joyful365:
Have you ever worked in any big Nigerian company? If you have then you will not be selling this sort of false hope that workers there will start to feel no need to complain.

Go out and find out from Nigerians working in Banks and other big FMCG companies. Despite these companies increasing the price of their products and services due to inflation and devaluation and raking in billions in profits, they have refused to increase the wages and salaries of their workers, majority of whom they place under contractors so they can avoid paying good wages, compensation and benefits.

These workers cannot cry out because there's high unemployment and they can't join unions or they'll be sacked. So, many just manage the job and then use loans and other unethical means to augment their wages. Think of the policeman who extorts and collects bribe on the road. Think of First Registrars who don't have a functional phone number. I'm sure they're trying to cut cost and they've fired the customer service personnel who should handle such tasks. Think of the electricity worker who will collect bribe and help you bypass meters. All of this problem stems from being poorly paid and compemsated for whatever job you do.

And the result on the overall economy is obvious. People with low purchasing power cannot patronise business at a scale that causes mass growth and development. Nigeria's textile industry has gone comatose because people can't afford to buy new clothes, not necessarily because they're expensive, but because their purchasing power is low relative to price of the clothes, despite the fact that they're working, sometimes 60-80 hours every week.

It's only the oil sector workers that have been a bit insulated from this exploitative habit of Nigerian companies underpaying workers, using them as contract staff and preventing them from joining unions.

Check Total, Chevron, Aradel and the likes. Majority of their employees are doing well. Even an Aradel security employee was buying stocks of the company not too long ago.

Check AEDC, UBA, First Bank, Coca Cola, Dangote Cement and other big non oil companies. Majority of their workers are living from hand to mouth. Many of their workers are chronic debtors to loan apps and many others now place their hope on Bet9ja and Baba Ijebu. These are people who are genuinely working and truly deserve a good life. But they can't because the companies they work in want them to remain poor and controllable.

Those who cannot stomach such conditions jejely arm up and take to real crime. That is why you're seeing an increasing trend in insecurity across Nigeria. Poverty and crime are always positively correlated and the foundation of such poverty is traceable to the situation Dangote is trying to achieve by preventing workers from unionising so that he can later turn them into contract staffs, keep their salaries stationary for years and easily stackable.

No society progresses under such conditions. If Dangote gets his way, other companies will copy him and that will be the end of the Nigerian labour force.

No Nigerian who is patriotic and understand the big picture and interconnectedness of all the situations I have described and more will support what Dangote is doing. Nigeria and the interest of all Nigerians should always be paramount.

The Indians he'll hire to replace those workers will be paid at least $1500 per month. But he'll be happy to pay Nigerians $300 and claim that they're earning well. It just shows you how much he values Nigerians.
You will do well to go back for an English class to learn the meaning of the following:

1.What Majority is or means.
2. What living from hand to mouth is.
3. Who and who are qualified as staff in some organisations.
4. Perhaps, the salary structure of banks like First Bank and UBA.

May be after then...........

You're exactly right, I commented without even reading the actual results, I just read the earnings summary.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Now, a better comment:

Naira closed May 29thth 2025 at 1586.15

It closed August 28th 2025 at 1535.47

That's a N50 gain in the intervening period
If their net FX exposure is $70 million (that is for both credit and the net value of trade receivables and trade payables in fx). Then it explains the N3.5bn gain.

Loan from their parent company alone is $40m and the FX gains of about N2bn is explicitly mentioned.

Is naira likely to gain N50 every quarter over their current reporting year?

Maybe, maybe not. That would imply naira at 1385 by May 31st 2026.

It's important to mention that the naira has already gained another N60 from the level it was at in May. If the gains continue till November (next month end), they should report another c. 4bn in Fx gains all things being equal.

Then the big one, the 12bn other income.

How likely is that to reoccur?

Well they had some assets (depot facilities) across the country which they carry at a value of about 1bn on their books.

They sold just N137m worth for about 12bn.

That's nearly 100x (87x)

By interpolation, since the real estate market isn't going into depression, the remaining 876m could still be sold for another 76bn in profits.

So those are what the numbers show currently.

Thanks again for making me correct the lazy comment I initially dropped.

emmaodet:

Please add the new context @emmaodet.

Happy new month guys, happy new quarter (our favorite Q4) and happy independence!

For disclosure, I'm not giving a buy or sell recommendation on PZ.

I'm not very good at doing that. Even if I bought I'd likely exit at around 5-10% upside.

That's how I exit every stock 😁😁
It's more fun. Holding stocks feel boring to me 😁😁. I pay the price of missing out of massive gains too.

Imagine selling a stock for 10% and it goes on to do 100% weeks after or even 500% a few months after.

It is what it is, everyone should stick to the strategy they love 😁😁.

My maths says if I can consistently do 10% in monthly gains, I will triple my portfolio every single year bull or bear
. I prefer that to just hoping I get lucky.

And since I still made more than 10% in a month as slow as this past September, it's all good. 😁
