It would be hard when govt wants to hijack about 25% of the reward I get for taking risks with my hard earned money.

Hmmmmmm. This tax law is to tie me down perpetually in NGX. I bet you the main aim of Government in all this is to hold down your capital. It happened in the Banks not too long ago; you have N2,000,000 in you account and what to withdraw N100,000. Banks will pay you only N20,000 and ask you to make use of online banking and transfer or even POS. This was when they were promoting their pos agents. You go to the atm machine, you are limited to the amount you can withdraw. You get a bank willing to let you withdraw the N100,000, what you get is mutilated notes. I tire for this country. sad

There is no sense in selling your stocks
If you sell and develop the interest of buying back later, same 25% applies.

You either become a trader by selling and using same proceeds to buy back when there is pullback. This method will add more units to your holding from week to week, month to month and year to year.

Good news to brokers since withdrawals will be limited because of 25% tax on sales.Funds will always remain with brokers account.

The next choice here is you can use your stocks as collateral for loan. This is even the best option to beat Tinubu tax.Megawealth has even explained this in the last few pages.

Maybe wait for December rally. I am sure the stockbrokers will shift the January rally back to December. Everywhere go quiet small in January

The 25% will be on the new profit not the old massive profit

Agbalowomeri:

Following your explanations
1. Everyone will sell off holdings within this year and never to come back again next year because of 25% tax.

2.Next year there will be no activities in stock market because nobody will like to pay 25% tax after sales.

I have never given the 25% a thought for one day and can't sell any stock because of fear.

This means all those brokerage stocks listed will yield even higher profits. Stocks like UCAP and Afriprud will likely see their share values rise. If you’re holding UCAP, hold tight , the price will be revised upward in the coming months and years.

Remember when I told you guys that Ellah Lakes would be the new UCAP two years ago? I even said it could happen as early as 2025, and now it’s gone from ₦3 to almost ₦14. Well, I’m saying it again: UCAP will be the next UCAP. You can shoot me down as usual, but God willing, I’ll be here to remind you all. grin grin grin

If you have 10m units of HONYFLOUR that you bought at N4 average, and you sell in 2026 at say N22 average(net of fees)

The law recognizes your profit as N180m and you'll pay c. 40m as PIT if you withdraw the entire sales proceeds.

However, if you sell now at N22 (lock in your 180m profits)

Then repurchase at N22 in 2026 and sell off at N22.

You won't pay any taxes to withdraw your entire proceeds.

You'll just pay about 2-3% in fees (from which the government might still get taxes)

It you use a broker with low fees, it'll be closer to 2%

This is pure truth.
Stocks accepted as collateral for loan either by brokers or banks will fly in 2026.

Let me ask you this.
What amount is qualified for this 25% tax by govt?

Why does he need to repurchase next year at 22? Nobody is collecting any tax from him in 2025

Good question.
This is why I asked the amount that is qualified for the 25% tax.

Assuming he sold a N500m worth of stock by December 2025 which is tax free.

Next year I believe he will not bring such amount into the market because of tax.

How much is excluded in this 25% tax let's know in time and know levels to operate in 2026.

You're right, repurchasing as I've put it in that example is completely redundant (actually sub optimal).

But I was talking from the perspective of someone who doesn't want to leave the market.

The core point is: if you lock in your gains in 2025: any new tax estimate would be based on your new purchase price in 2026 if you remain in the market. So that really helps everyone with low purchase price who are not ready to exit their positions yet.
